If the creators intend one thing and a large percentage of the audience interprets it in an unintended way, blame does in fact fall in part on the creators. They need to do a convincing job. They failed to convince. If the creator leaves the meaning/end of their work up for speculation and speculation goes far awry from what they ever wished or dreamed, it's a consequence of their set-up.

However, it is still their work. For an audience to be outraged because they believe they have a personal right to have things happen exactly how they wanted/dreamed is ridiculous. But they do have a right to critique and pick apart something they believe is awful or fails to work. They also have a right to never buy anything from the creator ever again.

Quoted for truth.  Now let's hope they exercise that right and don't buy ME4.

If there was anything I got out of the Ending controversy, ME meant something different for each person.

For me the series was about Shepard and the ME universe and its characters.

The Reapers? I stopped being scared of those glorified Borg-wannabe cuttlefish the moment Sov died. :P

That's the problem: people are interpreting something that isn't THEIRS how they want to, instead of how the authors interpreted or rather created it.

They invited fans to speculate and interpret.

Trust me at this point many people have been through this and while you certainly don't speak for EVERYBODY you do speak for the majority of the ME fans. There are surveys, polls, statistics, etc. all over the internet that prove it. I just hope they learned their lesson although it this rate I highly doubt it. It still does leave a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the day. Oh well. If you want an amazing ending for a video game go play Bioshock Infinite.

If BW ever does this again...

I'd probably LoL'ed. Don't get me wrong, I dislike the ending much and one thing that I learned from all this ending saga is: research (or spoiler section all the way) before purchase. If it's something that I like, then I'll buy and allow my heart to fall in love again, if not then I just don't purchase it. If I'm not emotinally invested on said game or game compay then I have no reason to get upset, right?

To be fair, they perturbed me with DA2 well before ME3. ME3's ending was just another nail. Since then, plenty of good will has been regathered, though still not as much as before. We are dealing with EA as much as BW now.

Having said that, I think BW is smart enough to realize they need a game changer with the next one, and hopefully will provide it.

Or EA could force them to make Mass Effect: Battlefied and lose the headway they've garnered thus far.

It would give me a warm sense of schadenfreude to see the next Mass Effect game, whatever it is, do well. Just so those who are outraged over something trivial continue to cry in their corners.

God, ive become such an ass in the past few months. Thank you BSN, I owe you for my transformation.

My God, this. Definitely this. I hope ME4 does amazingly well in spite of the whiners. I don't even care how they make it.

I'm so sick of this ending for Mass Effect 3. This is the greatest game series in my history of gaming with the worst ending as well. Bioware, if you ever make another game that's from the Mass effect universe I'll gladly buy it...but if you ever pull some crap like this again. You wont only lose me as a loyal fan but everyone else. I don't know if you guys even read these complaints anymore but whoever decided that this ending was the answer has lost everything that mattered in the ME universe. Choices...survival...closure.

Kill myself and control the nightmare...kill my friends and entire spiecies...or burn myself up in a beam to make everyone come together...wow

Sorry for yet another rant about the ending...

P.S. Miranda needs to get back on cloning duty...

They're going to keep pulling it BECAUSE YOU'RE STILL BUYING IT DUMB***.

If you hate that ending, if you hate where Bioware is going as a company, If you can't stand EA's hiddeous buisness practices, and you STILL bought all the DLC and you're STILL going to buy another Mass Effect game then YOU are part of the problem.

You're welcome, though I'm not sure we can take full credit here. Weren't you always vehemently anti-customer?

Yet on Election Day you'll still get polls despite the fact that not everyone eligible to vote in the actual election was counted (waiting for all the votes to be counted would kinda defeat the point wouldn't it)...

I believe in creative freedom. If they decide to create something, then they should do it their way, in their own terms. If it appeals to people, then it's a good thing, but if people happen to dislike what they do, well, then they have to face the consequences of it. That's how it goes. You take responsibility for what you create. But it's always the artist who should create: it's always the artist's call, not the consumers'.

In this regard (also), I respect Casey, Mac and the rest of those people who created their own game with guts and that they still dare to be proud of it, not matter the backlash. It's their baby.

ME fans are a bit too dedicated and enthusiastic, I even dare to say that they feel entitled in a way. They tend to forget that ME is not theirs, but the artists' who invested their mental, physical, psychical and creative energies and capacity into creating and producing it. The fans only enjoy (or hate) the result of the hard work. Fans only enjoy the flavour of the fruit which was grown with care by others, but never really touched the tree itself. So ME is their creation, they can do whatever they want with it. If they screw it up (for some or many), it's their right to do so. And I support that over fans' demands. ... the only thing a dissappointed fan can do is: vote with his or her wallet and ranting on forums. That's how it should be.

Honestly, BioWare lost what was interesting about the series when they put out the 2nd game. I still find it strange people are actually surprised about the terrible ending.

"Your audience doesn't support the creative path you're going down", I suppose, not so much because of one ending.

Which they won't be able to tell until they release the game.  Everyone who saw the game before it was released loved it so exactly how are they suppose to know fans will not like it until they actually release it?

Gamereviewers are:
A ..dependend on the publishers, if they are to harsh in their critisism they might not be in the loop with the next game
B ... Reviewers hardly ever finish a game

I really think it is naive to think that all of a sudden all publishers are making great games all of a sudden, I remember a time where games got a 6, now even ****ty games get an 8.
The numbers 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10 are so overused nowadays that I can't take any reviewer seriously anymore

Well although I do not share the protheans view that pro enders are anti customer, I do hope that all these "pro-enders" realise that when you buy their next game you approve the way Bioware is doing business.
And seeing how this has developed over the ME franchise alone, I hope you see a ( downward) pattern here, where you could very well end up having to buy your crew in addition to the game and make the game less coherent/meaningful in its narrative.
Also please consider how the game mechanics have evolved, where you at first had a wide variety of options and possibilities, in ME3 you had almost none of it, all the RPG elements were ripped out for the sake of shooter action.
So even though I understand that you liked the ME universe, please try to be critical and don't get carried away with the hype that always comes with a new release and please vote with your wallets.
I will most definitely won't be buying Mass Effect 4 and hope many others will do the same if only to send Bioware a message that they need to get back into shape again
