Hi there!
so i was a big fan of the first nevewinter night and just having to a new laptop finally had something i can actually run neverwinter nights 2 on! i got a copy online including the expansions and tried to get online to explore the multiplayer aspects of the game as i met some awesome people online in the first Neverwinter game.
i read some of the posts here but it seems like some of them are a little out of date, i tried signing in with a new account, i even tried making new e mail addresses to make sure that it wasnt just a case of having an old bioware account that i had compleatlly forgotten about but i still have no luck.
Whenever i try to log in i get a message that says
"Authorization server down, could not auth
Could not connect to master server some multiplayer options may be unavailable"
and though i can then get into the multiplayer area when i look for online games it reads
"connection error
Unknown connection error"
and has now taken to closing itself down and sulking at me for asking it to refresh servers
So i was wondering if any one out there could shed a little light on this for me, i was really looking forward to getting online again. Has it just been taken offline compleatlly? should i just sulk about it and go find myself a copy of Neverwinter and go back to playing on that?
Any info would be greatlly appriciated
thanks for your time

Earlier this year, the new company that owns Gamespy tried to get publishers to pay fees to continue using the Gamespy network for their multiplayer, and shut down the ones that did not.
However, the community has provided replacements for the Gamespy functionality, so you can play multiplayer just as easily as before. For NWN2, just install the NWN2 Client Extension, and that's all you have to do to restore the multiplayer functionality. You will not have to log in, though it'll still prompt you briefly.

Neverwinter Nights 1 is also affected by the Gamespy actions, and has its own solutions, but I don't know what they are.

ok im really sorry if i just keep bugging you and im missing stuff thats right in front of my face
but like all good things that start with an aoplogy im going to ask stupid questions anyway
Does it work with the complete version of Neverwinter Nights 2 that i downloaded from GOG? i unzipped it and tried running the launcher but it just displayed an error message
"failed to launch neverwinter nights 2 (error 2)"
as you may have already ascertained i am really not very good at this kind of thing >_< but im ok at roleplaying!

I refreshed just before posting this, and I see you have it working, but I'll go ahead and post these troubleshooting tips in case anyone else needs them.
Well, first, make sure you have the latest version. I know there are a lot of old versions on the Vault page. Native support for the GOG version was added in version 1.0.0.24.
Second, make sure you have all of the Client Extension files in the same folder where the game files are (the one typically in Program Files, not the one in Documents).
Third, the new file you need to execute to start the game is called NWLauncher.exe. You'll have to use that instead of the original shortcuts, or make new shortcuts, or edit your shortcuts to point to that file to start the game. Make sure you're not executing NWN2Launcher.exe, which was there before you installed the Client Extension.
Enjoy!
