Mass Effect‘s development team has opened up about the possibility of a spinoff to the main trilogy. BioWare’s Casey Hudson, Mac Walters, Dusty Everman, Mike Gamble and Preston Watamaniuk revealed potential ideas for the game in an interview with OXM
Hudson believes that Garrus could take centre stage in a new story set in the Mass Effect universe, inheriting the torch from trilogy star Shepard.

He said: “There’s so much that could be told in the Mass Effect universe.
It’d be cool to do something completely unrelated to the larger storyline, like a story about a private investigator on the Citadel. Or maybe something detailing Garrus’ time in C-Sec.”Everman echoed Hudson’s sentiments: “While being one of Shepard’s most loyal friends, Garrus has also had some of the most driven personal goals.

He’s a hero in his own right, as Archangel and beyond.“Who wouldn’t want to see the further adventures of the bold, charming Garrus Valkarian?”Watamaniuk expressed interest in making a more melee-focused entry in the series, while Walters said that the spinoff could focus on Aria, The Illusive Man or Kai Leng.Gamble is hoping to flesh out Javik’s backstory: “Following the story of Javik a little bit more would be pretty cool.

“As the last remaining member of a lost race, I think that we could tell a lot of stories about his adventures in the Milky Way, and coming to terms with his place in the new Galaxy.”The series’ latest entry Mass Effect 3 received its final single-player add-on in March, with the ‘Citadel’ DLC offering fans a farewell to the game and a chance to reunite with characters from throughout the series.

All of those ideas sound boring to me. They're all ideas that fans have come up with here on BSN. Why not something original, BioWare?

Having nothing to do with the broken parts of the story (like the Reapers), is the only way I'll buy any more of these games.

They're better off starting something new instead. I doubt Bioware could make it work with the ME universe.

Because people complain when they don't follow their ideas presented on the forums.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't

I must say I wouldn't be keen on playing any of the known characters in a game with decision making - they've already got established personalities so the only way it would work with Garrus/Grunt/... is if the game is much more linear when it comes to player decisions - similar to bioshock for example.

While that might work, I'd still prefer an entirely new character and the possibility of creating their personality.

As a spinoff game, I would say that a possible route they might look into is to have the game divided into chapters, and each chapter covers a different characters story.

For example, you could start with garrus, have him than think about tali, transition to the next chapter of the game where you play as tali, and than have a transition that takes you to another characters story, so on and so forth.

Would help keep the game from feeling too stretched thin, and keep the story interesting.

 A Kai Leng spinoff? Really?

I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume that NO ONE likes that character.

I would rather not have a game that follows any of the original cast members. And definitely not anything to do with Cerberus or Reaper plot, considering how ****** poor both of those were.

And a game following Kai Leng? Haha, what a ****ing joke.

Ideas for existing games are fine. But the ideas proposed by fans for a possible ME spin-off have been nothing short of terrible, in my opinion.

Think this falls under the, "no one liked him, therefore he was a great villain", sort of logic :pinched:

If they had used the right Kai Leng then it would have worked Image IPBImage IPB

Calling it now, the next game will be a prequel where you play as Leng.

Seriously though they are just spit balling ideas at the moment, so nothing should be taken too seriously for now. Or ever if Walter's continues with this sort of disconnect.

A Garrus spin-off game seems like the only possible spin-off that would feature a squaddie from the trilogy. He's the most logical character to carry his own game, though I don't think he was close to being one of the most interesting/complex characters in the trilogy.

I could see how that could work, although it's not terribly original given what fans have already suggested and the news of how Disney is approaching Star Wars...

I think all those ideas are terrible.

Clean slate Bioware. New characters, new story, new everything.

I know BSN will hate it, but I wouldn't mind a game based on the Rachni Wars.

I do wonder what whatever NME will be will bring. I for one am excited

We know the outcome already.

It was heavily featured in Evolution.

This is why I'm not a large fan of prequels...<_<

As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE Garrus... I want an RPG from these guys.

Okay, for those who don't agree with ME being an RPG, I'll just phrase it this way:

I want to make decisions based on a character I made, that's the reason I became so attached to Shepard.

using those ideas will end well for you BW...smh

but a not so bad tweak to those ideas would be us using a brand new character but still follow an exsisting characters story. For example we are one of Liara's operative pre or post LotS or being one of Garrus' team before Sidonus betrayed him.

Note that I will still hate the idea of a spinoff/prequel but it would be better than us using an exsisting character.
