All of those ideas sound boring to me. They're all ideas that fans have come up with here on BSN. Why not something original, BioWare?

Agreed. The real problem is that you can't go from playing Commander Shepard, savior of the Citadel, destroyer of Reapers, then switch to Shepard's side kicks with the same effect, however enjoyable those characters may have been. It essentially turns Mass Effect into a glorified version of Leliana's song, whose premise was lame. My first thought is what happened with Halo 3: ODST, a game which I enjoyed greatly for its atmosphere, but which felt like a less epic version of the Halo trilogy, since you were now playing as a grunt soldier as opposed to the iconic Master Chief.

I think the best approach to take is to separate the next protagonist/plot from everything we're used to in the Mass Effect universe. Something so utterly different that it will go against our expectations to compare it to Commander Shepard.

I have zero desire to "role play" with a computer. I find it silly. If I want to RP, I get together with my friends and we grab the dice and find a good table top.

I enjoy doing both, bearing in mind the disparity in freedom.

You can do better, Bioware.

I'm passing if the premise is that boring.

For what it's worth, I also think there's a place for both type of games. But the problem is, right now, most games only go for the "defined character," and there are fewer and fewer that let you really shape the main character.

It would be nice to have a diverse market, not one where everthing is the same. It's like - I like hamburgers, but I like a lot of other food too. But the way things are going with the game industry right now would be like if I could only ever go out and buy hamburgers, with no other food ever an option.

Any spin-off that focused on a character we already know would have to be like candy. Like the comics or the novels. A short game, 10 hours at most, to enjoy somewhere before the REAL action starts.

If they ever became the meat of ME... That'd be incredibly disappointing. I don't actually see it happening though. BW has changed their approach to the RPG, but I don't see them jetisoning the core elements of choice and player-defined character.

The heck? Are they reading my posts and using them as inspiration? I believe I was the first to suggest Garrus being a Citadel C-Sec gumshoe/private eye. I hadn't seen that suggestion before. It's just weird to see that repeated almost word for word by BioWAre.

Really... I've been saying exactly this. Are they reading my posts? If so, hey, thanks BioWare!

I do. I really think BW is now a studio for EA to make action games with RPG elements. I think the RPG aspect of BW is dead forever.

That's what the original Mass Effect was, though.

Although I dislike sequels, I think the First Contact War would be something of a spinoff.

I disagree. I think it was more of an Action/TPS based RPG.

I used the wrong words in the last post. I think the next game will be something like Alan Wake mixed with Gears of War. I don't think we're going to be able to really alter the story or make any significant choices. It will probably be more action oriented.

Action-oriented and choice-driven aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

But it really comes down to how you define RPG*. And it's true that the industry's definition of RPG seems to be changing.

If your definition falls heavily on the classic dnd cRPG model, then, yes, I doubt we'll go back to that.

*talking specifically of video game RPG here.

They said ME3 was the end of Shepard's story. So drop it. New characters, new narrative setup. Let Shepard's Mass Effect rest.

Garrus is cool and all that, but the last thing I want is to invest more time into characters and stories that are already over, not to mention broken.

A TIM-focused game could be interesting, especially if it sheds more light on the Monolith. But aside from that I want a new installment. Canonize Control or modified Destroy and move on with the existing MEU.

ME1 was more versatile, no dispute there, but we're splitting hairs with the differentiation between the two.

Of course, a lot of this depends on where BioWare elects to go, because the games can certainly become more action-oriented and less RPG-based.  I don't think the series can suffer much more streamlining, and I do think they should get back to the broader versatility of the first game.

I think all those ideas are terrible.

Clean slate Bioware. New characters, new story, new everything.

And post-ME3

Because people complain when they don't follow their ideas presented on the forums.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't

They use Wulfie as a source of synthesis blabber. BW has a Leviathan orb at Wulfie's house that they use to talk through him with their idea's. Every time he posts, it's a member of BW's senior illuminati

They should just do a full blown game on Shepard and Jack's adventure to go dancing, with many distractions on the way.

Brilliant idea if I mind add.

Or Shepard and Miranda's high class adventures of intrigue and espionage and the work to reforming Cerberus and juggling their private life together.

I'm not too fond of the idea of a spinoff. Those kind of games rarely turn out well. Maybe I would give it a chance if they decided to make a short game downloadable from Xbox Live/PSN, maybe like The Walking Dead by Telltale.
