A Harbinger spin off.... this guy just doesn't get it.  None of them do.

I'd  certainly pay 60-70 pounds for this.

Yeesh. The endless hate around here reminds me of why I don't like the BSN all that much -- it's a demagogue collective. (Which is worse than a borg collective, or any other kind of collective in my opinion.) See, there's a lot of hate, and there's peer pressure to hate. Thus, it turns into a massive circlejerk of hate with little rationale or logic being offered.

Riddle me this: Why would a Kai Leng game be a bad thing?

I'm not his biggest fan, but I don't hate the idea as much as many here do. I'm actually interested to see where BioWare would go with this to flesh the character out.

Geez, between the Kai Leng hate, the Synthesis hate, the Geth hate, the Reaper hate, the Catalyst hate... it really is a demagogic circlejerk of hate.

Then why are you still here? If you hate our hating so much just leave and never return.
Equally so, you are hating just as much on us and anyone that doesn't believe that synthesis is the way to go.

NO.

You guys do realize that most Mass Effect fans loved Kai Leng, right? It's just a vocal minority who thinks he sucks. His fans just don't spend as much time on BSN as his haters.

Vocal minority? Yeah, right. Just as people who hate on the endings are the vocal minority.                                              We have dismissed that claim. Show me some proof then we'll talk.

I'm pretty sure Bobobo878 was being ironic, making a reference to MW failure to recognize what fan majorities and minorities think. Obviously, Kai Leng is not a fan favorite :)

Yeah guys, who woudn't want a terrible Metal Gear Rising knock-off where you play an arrogant xenophobe? Kai Leng is such a compelling character, what with his racist hatred of aliens and the sadistic pleasure he takes from murdering them. That seems like just the kind of person I could empathise with, being the dirty pro-destroy anti-intellectual, binary thinking demagogue that I am.

yeah, he was, wasn't he? I probably got carried away because Mac Walters seriously considers this.

Edit: Mac obviously clings too much onto his characters. It might be a good idea to let go and realise that their stories have been told and that people are done with them. If he truly is a good writer then I'm sure he can create new ones.

I have to agree with the people calling for something fresh and new. Though it depends how you define spin-off: is this "spin-off" going to be the next major ME game, or is it just that - a smaller game that is released in between bigger titles?

I wouldn't mind some DLC or something that focuses on some stories in one of the existing character's life (it could be like Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon which is a stand-alone title), but I think for a new game that will have the size and scope that ME deserves, they need to make it NEW.

If this is the best that Casey Hudson can come up with then I'm really worried about the next ME game. All of those ideas sound pretty ****ing stupid.

But before we do cast off Garrus in a PI spin-off. Why has no one photo shopped a fedora onto Garrus? If the hat fits then clearly its meant to be.

HA!

You guys really didn't see it coming? Through all of the posters, trailers, commercials?

The game is going to be about BLASTO, THE FIRST HANAR SPECTRE. Period.

I have zero interest in any story with Kai Leng in it. Please write anything else.

Thanks

If it's a prequel, or a midquel/spin-off happening during Shepard's arc, then it's a definite no-buy for me.

BIOWARE, please be creative and make something post-Reaper war.

Thank you.

its going to be set in an alternate universe were shep and/or reapers dont exist.
but during same cycle so we have same races.

either way, since mac and casey obviously still havent learned a thing. its going to be crap.

a game about kai leng. based on wich character, deception/me3 version? LOL
that would be gamestudio/writer career suicide. period...!!!!

Well maybe they might pull the "It was all a dream" card anyways.

We'll see an alliance soldier who looks amazingly like Shepard climbs out of a simulation booth, claims " ... That was so real!..." right before the installation is blownup by unknown elements and the game proper starts.

I know that this is petty to say (and I do hate myself slightly for saying it) but:

I'm actually cool if he doesn't write anything else.

Indeed, were I his editor, my feedback for him would be rather stern.

You wrote an asinine multi-million dollar love-note to intolerance, son.  You said that the only true answer to racial conflict is forced eugenics.

You might want to sit this next round out.

Perhaps. But it would be amusing to watch them try.

I certainly have no interest in anything set before the ending of ME3. I want to see how they dig themselves out of this vast and unecessary hole that they chose to create for themselves.

And as for the notion of a game starring one of the unholy trinity of Aria, Tim or Kai Leng... surely that can't be a serious suggestion?

 A Kai Leng spinoff? Really?

I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume that NO ONE likes that character.

Sadly, BigMac and Casey do.

EDIT: Retcon the ending or do a sort of reboot. Simple as that. Or just leave the ME franchise just as it is.

I remember a vote (or several actually); Prequel, sequel or spin-off?
Sequel always win by a large margin. So logic dictates that Bioware will go for either a prequel or a spin-off with the next Mass Effect game.

I think a ME3 remake is the only way to go

EDIT: It is the only game everyone here would buy, haters, non haters, binary thinkers, anti-intellectuals, demagogues, pro synthesis or control, etc

They should make it DA: Origins style. Pick up your character (race, class) then go through origins different for each into the main plot which could go pretty much the same. All asari, krogan, turian, human, salarian could be involved. Anyone with a different background of what happened to each race AFTER the Reaper Wars.

That would give it enough non-linearity (mostly by the way you complete character-specified "origin" missions) and also is wide open on terms of possible story. You could as well start as a turian wannabe or young human soldier. And do different things to complete main story.

Also it's pretty open to cameos/easter eggs. Let's imagine that you play as a young asari commando who, after completing the game, is in the very last scene congratulated by her mother. The rest is pretty obvious :)

And why doesn't BioWare takes all that they've learned in the process of making the Mass Effect trilogy and start a new Mass Effect trilogy?

Instead of coming up with shortcuts and apologies - things like "they've already made an epic trilogy" - how about embracing a damn big story in this universe, well thought of and planned, with a cohesive storyline, bigger worlds to explore and a cast of new and some of the old characters we've grown to love so much.

How about a new hero instead of a spinoff of a pre-defined pre-digested character, a hero we can customize as we've loved to do with Shepard.

How about evolving the ME combat formula and make it less stiff and more "organic".

How about reconsidering the best elements tested in the first trilogy when it comes to customization, inventory, mission structure, romancing, and make the best Mass Effect game ever made and the opening chapter to a wonderful epic trilogy that makes the Mass Effect universe MOVE FORWARD.

And one final thing, just because one disagrees with the spin-off formula or with prequels and redundant midquels, doesn't mean one's a hater.

I wouldn't mind some cameos from some old favorite characters

but i think they should focus on new story, new characters, and maybe some new aliens as well
