He's a damn war monger. Hackett even admits it.

I liked him and was hoping to crack open some liquor with him in ME3 after smashing the Geth together like he promised in ME2.

Han Gerrel is simply an idiot. He drove the Geth straight into the Reapers arms (it was either siding with the reapers or face extinction at the hands of the Quarians). I mean...what did he think would happen?

Han Gerrel is indeed a war monger. But even worse than that, he is a great blundering buffoon.

I appreciate him. This story would get real boring real fast if not for guys like him stirring the pot a bit (or more than a bit).

.  And the geth did absolutely nothing to help the war until it threatened them.  I'll take Gerrel over the geth any day.

Eh, I don't see Tali and Garrus working out long. Tali had a crush on Shepard, and when Shepard told her no, she goes down to the next guy on the ladder. Garrus and Tali will eventually split over some difference or another, to go and rebuild their respective homeworlds (with Garrus being pulled by Shepard back into his reformed Cerberus).

I've hated Ashley since ME1. This stems from some of her early dialogue. I hate her attitude, her beliefs and opinions, and her general outlook. She has an unrequited love for Shepard (despite the two having a prior... romance in ME1), and she's rather possessive and obsessive with it. She's convinced that Cerberus has him brainwashed or under some kind of control. The truth is he isn't. Cerberus didn't need to do any of that. The alliance and the Council's own impotence and arrogance assured that.

I guess it varies with each Shepard, but I keep forgetting that the character dynamic changes with gender, and since my Shep is female, the Tali crush is nonexistent, same with Ashley. I could understand Ashley's attitude in ME1. Being a marine in a time just 2 decades after the first contact war would be fair reason to not trust aliens. Same with Pressly. It's too bad we don't learn of his change of heart until reading his corrupted datapad in the Normandy wreckage. Maybe I'm alone here, but I didn't want either her or Kaiden to die, but someone's gotta be plot-deathed.
By the way, am I the only one that wishes that a confrontation between Shepard and Toombs took place? He seemed pretty pissed about your dealings with Cerberus from the looks of his email.

Ah, not alone. There's quite a large group on tumblr dedicated to such an idea. There was even dialogue about it in the game files. Alas, the feels:(. Any other death I can salute and whisper 'Shine on, you crazy diamond.' But not with Virmire. I've seen a video of one girl reacting to her first time playing through the game, she's crying for about five minutes. Now that's what I call immersion.

Neither did the Quarians. I didn't see any Quarians riding up to offer their help. Seemed like they were being more introverted than usual.

The Geth were preparing their own military forces for the Reapers, as Legion states.

The Quarians thought nothing of the Reaper threat. They thought nothing of using their fleet to help until they nearly wasted it against the Geth (who's very sizable fleet they also nearly wrecked).

Gerrel is a moron. He's lucky my Shepard didn't put a bullet in his head after the Dreadnought.

The quarians are one of the few groups who do recognize the Reaper threat in ME2, the others being the Krogan under Wrex and Cerberus and the Alliance after Arrival, they just need somewhere to put their civilians while they fight.

I made the decision in a few seconds. I nuked Ashley, and didn't look back. Shooting Ashley on the coup, turning her down on rejoining the Normandy, I love it. Since then, even though I utterly despise Ashley, I have come to appreciate the narrative potential she brings to the table for my Shepard. She causes drama. For fanfiction and headcanon purposes, she's very useful. Kaidan, who I really don't mind (I think his ME2 outburst was out of character) does have depth and strength as a character, but he's a lot more of a philosophical guy - a lot like my Shepard. In the realm of roleplaying, I just don't get the same satisfaction from having him as I do from Ashley's.... bluntness and outlook.

No.

And who knows a character that is so annoying that an entire mod was made with the main goal of removing it from the game?

They say the threat is there. They never say what they're going to do about it. And if all they do is need somewhere to put their civilians, here's a good idea: In exchange for lending their fleets for use against the Reapers, the Quarians can put their civilians on an agricultural world. Really though, this is a bit of a bad idea no matter how you slice it. 17 million people suddenly put on a stretch of planet with little resources to establish themselves? Why does it have to be Rannoch? I know their's the whole deal about a symbiotic relationship with the land and diseases etc. but it's going to still take time. A lot of time. It'd be better to put them on some world like Gei Hinnom or some Turian colony that hasn't been smashed yet. The Quarians were idiotic for provoking the Geth. Why waste your military resources (and those of the Geth) on a fight that, at worst, could be held off post-war?

One thing I can't deny is that regardless of which character I like more, Kaiden does have more to talk about. It was actually interesting listening about jump zero and all that in ME1, and while he can come off as boring, he has more depth and makes ME2 and 3 better somehow. That said, I didn't factor any of these things into my decision. I did a Harvey Dent and let a quarter decide.
