I think a sequel is the only way forward for Mass Effect. Although i think it will certainly be a spin off, which in my honest opinion will signal the end for the game. I don't have inside knowledge of relationships between distributors and devolpers, but i don't think EA will have much patience for a game that went from selling many millions to alot less than that. You would have to question just what sort of resources are available to fund a game that they know will not come close to the number ME3 did. If a spin off doesn't appeal to people on here, then how will it be received by people who have given up or do not care a great deal about the game ?

I posted a poll on the spoiler section about which end will be the best base for a future sequel(which seems like the obvious popular choice here) http://social.biowar.../index/16701354

Sequel. I mean, that should definently make more sense than having a prequel or a midquel (with the many that already exist). I could easily
a newer and bigger world deeper into the future with the availability of the current and possibly more different races being present, and a new villain with a more complex plot.
And I don't believe that EA should continue their spree of reboots of series. That gives them the opportunity to change what they want, for better and for worse.

One of my friends on Xbox Live came up with this great idea for ME4 do it as a prequel to ME1 Where you play as the first 3 council races and see how they started out as well as how they got there and found the Citadel. I then suggested we make the DLC be all the wars for example: Turian unification war, quarian/geth morning war, Krogan Rebellions and Rachi War. These are just a few I like the idea, but personally I LOVE Tali so much as long as I get to romance a quarian female or play as a quarian I don't care.

Sequel.
I don't think we need a whole game about some story we already how ended (Rachni wars; Krogan Rebelions; Morning War...etc)

I'm stuck for choice, I kinda want a sequel but sequel implies relation to the first 3 games' plot, which I'd rather it didn't.
It would have to be a sidequel where I don't have to play as a human or set in an alternate universe but still including all the currently established species, lore, planets etc.

Mass Effect: Origins set 50-200 years after the Reaper war.

There's really no point in a sequel or a reboot.

Sequel...... Because how else are we supposed to know the consequences of our actions when those actions create more questions than resolutions.

It's unlikely that all of us are going to get those answers. There's no feasible way to design a (good) sequel that accounts for all our choices.

For me, reboot.
Because I don't want to live in a galaxy where any of the endings Bioware provided took place.

Retcon ME2 and ME3, or reboot to the first and true Mass Effect. The setting has become less and less appealing to me since the start of ME2 and I have no desire for anything connected to the ending of ME3.

I voted Prequel. I like history in general, even fictitious, and the Geth creation would give a great story. The main problem is the absence of humans. It doesn't turn me off, but I think it would to a lot of people.

DS9 is a spinoff for TNG.
Stargate Atlantis is a spinoff of SG-1.
Spinoff works, especialy since we all know we won't be playing as Shepard.
A Sequel would kind of requier Shepard and we all know that won't happen.
A spinoff can easily start some time after the Reaper war, or towards the end of said war.

I never liked the alternative universe concept, because it just means nothing that happens really matters since there is always another universe out there where it turns out different. All outcomes covered!

I voted "side-quel". I don't want a continuation of the reaper storyline, but I want it to take place post-trilogy.

Personally, I'm content putting the Shepard story on a shelf and revisiting it through playthroughs of the trilogy. I wouldn't mind references and mentions in the next game, but I don't want these characters to be milked for the sake of nostalgia.
I don't want Mass Effect to become stale and limit the ME universe to the perspectives of characters from the trilogy. I want it to feel fresh and new (new characters, new worlds, new adventures), all the while maintaining what is familiar (e.g. the Citadel, the various races, the Mass Relays, the interactions, biotics, etc).
Alternate universe: I'm afraid it will be too unfamilar and too...safe? ME3 had some big consequences and some of us still would like to live with them, so to speak. It would seem too easy to just side step these massive decisions and their consequences. I would love to see Bioware take this head-on and show us that they are capable of taking us to life after the repears.
How fun would that be to play through ME-ME3 just to see changes in the next installment! It would definitely give me MORE incentive to replay it.

I would like a sequel. I wouldn't want to play as a character that is not my own, so I definetly don't like the idea of a spinoff. Reboot sounds interesting but I just don't see the point, unless they make it where there is a totally different ending. I don't like the idea of a prequel cause I don't want the story going backwards, especially since we know how it ends. I guess alternate universe would be my second choice if not a sequel, since it would be pretty interesting.

I want a TES-esque Mass Effect though I don't see it happening as they would have to get rid of voice acting for the main hero to allow choice of race. Or, they could fork over the extra cake to do a voice for all races (hahaha, yeah right).
