Don't understand why people don't bring kits they can use to "roflstomp everything effortlessly and stress-free" or, at least take their weaker kits to silver or bronze instead! I play in teams to get quick runs, not solo 'cause players are dying right and left.
When I saw the thread title I thought "well-balanced" was going to be about kits you take into U/U games 'cause they work ok with all enemies/all maps.
I too thought this would be about what are favorite kits to bring to U/U games, especially gold and platinum. People are way too obsesed with so-called "crutch" kits and weapons these days. It is getting to a point of being stupid really.
Not everyone has the privilege of playing private matches with known people who play well. When I play U/U/G or U/U/P public matches, I want to make sure I contribute as much as possible towards getting my credits and team members getting theirs, instead of team wiping out somewhere along the ride and getting only consolation credits. And really, I expect team members to do the same.
Training wheels can be found in silver and bronze. SIlver is what I play when I test kits and weapons, then bring them to gold and see how well they really do. Ones that do great in killing stuff fast, gets brought to platinum.
Any kits or weapon can be a crutch in the hands of skilled player. If you have the skill and equipment, then play whatever you want. If you don't, but still want credits from G or P, then use them crutches and contribute as much as you can so the team can extract with full credits.
When I play gold or platinum, I don't want to waste precious time and consumables on hopeless or harder than necessary matches.
People, get over with your crutch obsessions. Thank you very much.

Isnt Paladin considered OP? If not his a great character.
Also I challenge OP to find well played GI in pugs. I have yet to see a PuG GI.

I think the general consensus is the Paladin is only considered OP in tandem with someone playing a detonator kit.
also it's unclear to me how the supposed inability of PUGs to use the GI effectively is supposed to affect my perception of the kit. GI is simply better than most of the rest of the kits in the game (perhaps all of them), didn't say the GI is game-breaking or an instant win button for noobs (no kit in this game is an insta-win for a noob), just that the GI is just drastically more powerful than almost everything else...

The GI requires some skill. Granted, a top 0.1% player can probably outscore anyone else with a GI, but it otherwise just isn't a quarter as durable as the AIU, which is probably the most durable kit of all AND still has about 95% of the raw DPS output of a GI. That alone makes her far more unbalanced and it would be foolish to think otherwise just based on the fact that a statistical minority of people are so insanely good that they can use a glass cannon like it's just a cannon.
As for a balanced kit that is balanced just right, I'd go with the HSol. AR is a huge help, but beyond that he's not something out of this world.

Can you play non-cruch kits/weapons in gold/platinum without dragging everyone else down? Yes? No problem. No? Go play silver when you're tired of your crutches.lightswitch wrote...

I just usually mix my kit-weapon combos ( like not using harrier on TGI, not using GI at all, MM less Tsol with lancer, venom AIU ) to not make them OP unless i have a really bad day or my friends just keep roflstomping me
