But ... those credits!

Are meaningless. Why should somebody rush to fill their manifest completely? To many thats where the game stops. Once they do that they are done with the game. Yet they rush to do it. Tis sad really.

To the ones who continue on I applaud you but I still dont see a point in farming credits.

I fail to understand how one can have fun playing a MP game while speed running. The game itself goes by too fast to really enjoy it. Heck if done right the only waves of significance are the objective waves and even those go by fast.

Could someone explain the rotation strategy? I mean, I follow where Xain's going but maybe he's doing what he's doing in the video more to show people where the locations are.

So, in video Xain's rotation is --
Wave 1,2,3 -- position #1 (nuke wave 1 & 2 then see what objective is for wave 3)
Wave 4,5 -- position #2 (top step in front of hallway)
Wave 6 -- position #1 (nuker; objective wave)
Wave 7,8,9,10 -- position #4 (down stairs in front of planter)
Extraction: position #3 (other three go to position #2)

Position 1 do the missiling 1 and 2, and 3 if you have targets. Position 1 and 2 switch after wave 3.

Position 3 and 4 move into 1 and 2 after wave 6.

Sony wireless set is well built, nothing on it is flimsy and prone to breaking,  the mic is retractable even though it really doesn't need to be. I have had 2 pairs (mine and my sons) for over a year with no issues. I would be more worried with a wired set, but I have large dogs that could rip my PS3 off the shelf if they catch the wire/s.

I had wired Turtle Beaches when I had a 360. Those things always seemed to get twisted and kinked, and the wires would eventually break inside. I went through 3 pairs of those, luckily I always bought the warranty.

yea if you have dogs and not seating at a omputer desk wired headset would be a problem. Wireless just not as good as wired due to having charge them and wireless signals not picking up properly. I'm just going say this right now but turtle beach are there worse of the headset and get problems very easy due to there cheap parts which is why there cheap. I personally have astro a40 which can use on pc,ps3 and xbox but there alot of money and not worth it to some one who doesn't play alot.

I've got Astro A40's too. Excellent headset, but quite expensive (I got mine heavily discounted). I've heard good things about the Sony wireless set too.

We (speed runners) enjoy the game the same way you do, we are just adding another dynamic to the game. Really, you are the one missing out. Do you think it always goes like the videos you see? The videos are typically the best case senerios, that produced the best times. There is also the testing that goes into speed running, that in itself is a process. Someone has to figure out JUST where to stand, while facing the correct direction. There is a lot you don't see that goes into making this process work, not to mention the understanding you soak in about the game and enemy mechanics.

We can always play the game the way you do anythine we want. If you don't speed run, then you only have less options to choose from. Most of the guys that put this stuff together have maxed manifests and they don't seem "done" with the game.

Trying to do a chart/cheat sheet.  Based on the above I've got the table below.  Player #4 here ends up with only wave 10 missiles (if targets) so I suppose they can feel more free to missile during other times.

Player#:   P1 P2 P3 P4
Wave 1    | 1  2  3  4    (#'s in cells
Wave 2    | 1  2  3  4     represent position #s)
Wave 3    | 1  2  3  4
Wave 4    | 2  1  3  4
Wave 5    | 2  1  3  4
Wave 6    | 2  1  3  4
Wave 7    | 3  4  1  2
Wave 8    | 3  4  1  2
Wave 9    | 3  4  1  2
Wave 10   | 4  3  2  1
Wave 11   | 2  3  2  2  (extraction--player 2 stays at position #3,
                         everyone else to position 2)

Player #1 plays positions: 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 2
Player #2 plays positions: 2 2 2 1 1 1 4 4 4 3 3
Player #3 plays positions: 3 3 3 3 3 3 1 1 1 2 2
Player #4 plays positions: 4 4 4 4 4 4 2 2 2 1 2

the cases will change slightly if your going for records for example if the missle on wave 3 doesn't get target he will be won't clear up on wave 3 so he keeps his 5 missles, the guy that will be nuking next will upto 3 missles the most. Then 1st nuker will do waves 6 if targets or if not clear up any way for wave 6.

Another question: Why the Drell Assassin? Rarely saw a kill feed for the recon mine in the video. Is it for his speed or what?

The video mentioned a couple Demolishers would be useful for the pylon.

Recon mine debuff Slows enemies down and can be blown to kill stragglers. A big problem in these runs can be that trooper, bomber, or similar that sneaks away from the missile blast. The recon mine can take care of that without people having to run in for clean up.

@ marauder: Sket is right, there will always be a trooper who survives the missiles on wave 1 and you can just detonate your mines to get rid of him fast. All other waves never or rarely have a straggler.

@ vaulting frog: Dude give it a shot. I had a maxed manifest right around the time I began doing it.

Official sony headset is good, charge lasts for 6 hours and has no probs picking signals, very good deal for $99.

I've had my manifest maxed for some time now, purpose of speedrunning is to develop strategies for the benefit of others, purpose of the thread like it says in the OP is to recruit for my group/friends who need this. My goal isn't a max manifest, i really enjoy this game but yes i'm a completionist too.

For people who already have invites to that chat, start joining it, let me know who doesn't and we'll invite you.

@sackboy
Check my $$$jade tutorial thread i answered your questions there already, anyway rotations can be set to your own choice and convinience, there's only 1 thing wrong with your cheat sheet, person 3 only does wave 7, person 4 does 8 and 9. I'll make a cheat sheet in the OP anyway.
