Why were Geth weapons so nerfed?

The Pulse rifle, Plasma SMG and even the Spitfire are remarkably weak.  The Plasma shotgun is good but nowhere in the class of elite shotguns like the Wraith, Claymore, etc.

The Javelin is amazingly powerful. The Spitfire was actually buffed, not nerfed. Granted, it still isn't powerful enough, but I suspect that it wasn't meant to be as weak as it is. If it had come out earlier, or if the devs had otherwise had more time to do more balance changes after its introduction, I'm fairly confident it would have been buffed further.

GPR and the SMG are definitely ****** shooters. The Spitfire is underpowered but not necessarily weak. The GPS is strong by any measure, but power creep. Javelin is Javelin

geth plasma shotgun wrecks infantry-type enemies. it only suffers against bosses because it cant double/triple hit them.

however, javelin, my baby. <3

Damn I'm stupid.  Forgot about the Javelin.  Yeah that is probably the most powerful single shot of any of the sniper rifles.

The other problem with the Spitfire is that it weighs about as much as a Buick.

mmmmmm

  • gpr has gotten a number of buffs. still weak but not unusable anymore, surprisingly fun on a weapons class and light enough for a caster too
  • spitfire has also gotten a buff and is actually not bad rather it is out of place, its purpose/strength is defeated by game design and engine limitations - design has strongly emphasized armor over shields/barriers, and the enemy limitation makes the bottomless clip pointless. trust me you quadruple the enemies on screen and suddenly that thing is boss.
  • gps damage-wise might not be quite where say wraith/claymore are, but it makes up for it with the charge functionality which scrubs always underestimate and dont forget that projectile weapons completely trivialize phantoms
  • javelin laughs at your statement
lets not talk about the gpsmg i just pretend it doesnt exist

I recently killed three gold atlases along with several smallers troops (eingineers/centurions/troopers) in one clip without even moving my Geth Juggernaut, so no one is goint to tell me it's a bad weapon.

It was nerfed in comparison to Single Player because it's now in Assault Rifle category and not a heavy weapon equivalent.

GPS has it's own, somewhat very good niche. Namely: killing phantoms. Take warp ammo on it and see how one of the most hated enemies in game is reduced to little above a trooper.

Javelin: as Dunvi said. Pointless weapon in SP, excellent in MP.

The rest I don't use.

They were nerfed so that the Javelin could rise as the King of all Guns.

GPS is a mook murderer

GPSMG for lulz only

GPR is actually quite useful on FE weapon builds

Javelin no comment

Spitfire for that ultimate suppression a juggy can provide( cant seem to use it on anyone else though )

If only we had a geth pistol....

It's actually funny but this aspect of SP is tougher than MP :D

On insanity there is still 100% shieldgate and no phasic ammo. Moreover, Javelin deals a lot less damage in comparison to MP and there is the Black Widow.

EDIT: Also, reload cancelling in SP is a pain in the ass which hinders Javelin and Widow mostly.

 GPR
- As light as the Avenger, which is pretty light.
- Good RoF (makes for a good ammo applicator)
- Deep clip
- Dat headshot modifier
- Its RoF/Acc in conjunction with Huntermode boosts is excellent (makes it even more like a laser)

It's low weight suggests (to me anyway) that it wants to be used with powers - i.e tech/fire/cryo 'splosions

GPSMG
- Great RoF/Acc
- Light
Good gun conceptually, but fails practically.
That it needs to ramp up to do any sort of damage makes it useless to casters, as the CDs will likely finish as soon as max RoF is reached,
Which leaves it to more gun-oriented characters - where using it is just gimping yourself.

Fun the Hsol though - continuous max RoF thanks to AR ^.^

GPS

- Good damage (not the best, but pretty damn good)
- Target tracking allows accurate mid range engagement
- Charge functionality
- Trivialises phantoms
- slight AoE (I think)

Overall a very good gun, whose rarity in matches surprises me.

Javelin

...

'nuff said

Spitfire
- Large clip
- Pretty accurate for such a dakka cannon
- Decent damage - I believe it was intended to be stronger, and if balances continued for a few more weeks, I think it would've been buffed.

It just that itweighs a ton, and the movement penalty don't seem to be properly justified by the damage output IMO
Though I think if we weren't capped at 8 enemies (which is a source of many balance problems IMHO), it's would shine.

Though I have killed 13 enemies in a single, non-stop burst once
/shameless self promotion

I don't use the claymore in SP because I can't reload cancel :(

GPR might as well be shooting marshmellows

I use the GPSMG with larger mag and heat sink on my GE with Icendiary ammo. And just spam Overload. everything goes Boom. Plus 180 rounds and the heat sink letting me fire more. Its kinda fun not having to stop and reload every 4 sec.

GPR I don't really use much.

Javelin. Gave it to my SI. Only infiltrator allowed to use single shot rifles.

And I don't have the spitfire. So I wouldn't know anything about it.

The SMG is my favorite weapon in the game. I enjoy covering the enemies in pee, which is basically what it does.

That's actually pretty dumb. You do know that the GPSMG is a ramp up weapon, right?. That means when you cast a power (overload) it will start ramping up again, meaning you never really get to use the full power of the gun. Why don't you just use the GPR instead?

Mainly did it out of boredumb. Guess I could give the GPR a try.

While perhaps not plat worthy... take a Turian soldier and spec marksman full RoF. Equip the GPSMG with both clip and heatsink. Smack on SMG gear/amps/ and AP rounds. Powerup marksman, proceed to slaughter everything on gold ;)

The Javelin now does the same damage as in SP thanks to the last patch porting over MP balance changes.

IIRC with max damage disruptor ammo Infiltrators can ignore shield gate now.

Perhaps they were nerfed so that it would persuade people to upgrade Geth Weapon Damage on Geth characters.
