Not that new folks can't join -- just know that you asked for it yourself. ;)

The opening post in a topic also doesn't count. I don't think they should be displayed this way, anyway.

i've posted tons in the group already, and none of them count.

Do long-time lurkers, but occasional posters have any chance of getting accepted?

Yes, I know. I mean that the statistics should either be buried somewhere deep, like they are on BioBoards, or removed completely.

And several things about the group system is odd. It doesn't handle posts the same way either (doesn't support BBCode), and it even interprets formatting differently. It must be parsing posts according to a different set of rules.

people who apply will need to be a little patient. if i dont recognize you at all i am going to wait for one of the current members to vouch for you.

if you're a lurker, prove it. post something relevant to Off Topic. if you can say something about one of the members that we'll recognize or understand, or is otherwise specially relevant, it'll get you accepted sooner.

Maybe you could do some kind of.... ahm... Bio-OT Knowledge-Test so people can prove that they are forumites even if you don't know them.

Oh, that sounds so horribly elitist.

Too elitist - just make them give their elemental symbol for OT. Don't have one? Shucks! :(

"Name the genders of [three random forumites]."
"Name three forumites with a distinctive writing pattern, and also name these patterns."
"Who moderates the OT?"

Probably too easy
1. the recent photo thread is enough to answer the first
2. anyone can brows the old OT forum - the writing patterns are clearly visible
3. also visible on the main page.
