Having replayed DA:O and putting Anora on the throne (after who knows how many games of putting Alistair on it), I've come to wonder who would be the best ruler of Ferelden during the upcoming conflicts in DA:I. 

I could see a sole King Alistair trying to mediate, or just remaining completely neutral from the conflict, isolating Ferelden.

I also see Anora gettin' all up in Orlais' business, possibly launching some form of an invasion. 

Of course there are many different Landsmeet outcomes, thoughts?

My Surana Warden chose Queen Anora and a personality hardened King Alistair to lead Ferelden into a new age. Anora has ambitious goals to build a university and restore the royal coffers, while Alistair will give representation to the elves despite the controversy. Wynne notes that both leaders want to improve the lot of mages. I think they are great for the kingdom.

I think a hardened Alistair and Anora ruling jointly is the best solution out of every possible combination in the Landsmeet. For the conflicts in DAI (expecially the Orlesian Civil War), I don't think it matters that much. Ferelden didn't have before the Blight the military and economical power to invade Orlais (even the post-Asunder Orlais), it certainly doesn't have that power now, since it's recovering from a Blight.
As for the mage-templar war, it'd depend mostly on how those group will act towards Ferelden.

Although I always choose Alistair to rule, in all honesty I think Hardened Alistair ruling jointly with Anora is the best choice. I think together they would have a good combination of ambition and balance.

a hardened alistar with anora or the warden. alistar is shown to take interest in ruling and is loved by commoners. he and the warden would be the best since you have one whp defeated and old god and is ruling a kingdom which I would think would create a almost mythic leader and would make most kingdoms think twice about invading. also alistar becomes a great king and he doesn't isolate ferelden he would probably open ferelden up a little more

I put Anora and Alistair on the throne.

I like to imagine most of everything Alistair did was my Warden's advice...so in a way, she was ruling the country.

It was so long ago I completed my last playtrough of DAO so I could be wrong, but iirc the epilogue is extremely positive for hardened Alistair & Anora ruling together.
Something in the lines of the people love them and together they are the best rulers Ferelden seen in ages.
But as I said can't really remember too well and don't have the game installed to check my save.

If Al locks her in Fort Drakon and then dies slaying the Archdemon she comes back as Queen in the epilogue, so no she doesn't die from that.

As Alistair says himself; they need her as insurrance if he dies, so I just assume they lock her up in Redcliffe Castle.

I would kind of love it if putting the Warden on the throne totally backfired. Good job with that ambition, unfortunately it wasn't for the betterment of your homeland.

But Jimmy is most likely right.
