So far I have tried Human Noble, Mage, Dwarf and City Elf... not sure what the Dalish/Dwarf Commoner offers

Human noble: Nada. (I forgot about the treasury though so I don't know what's in there)
Dwarf Noble: You can ask for 3.50 Gold from that shaperate guy
Mage: Nothing
City Elf: 40 gold, but very late in game when you get it.

Well, it's trivial, and part of a bug, but you lose everything except for your money as a Noble, including the Blood Dragon Armor you start out with. Selling it gives you a modest amount for just starting out, and like you said, there's more gold to be had from this origin.

The Human Noble treasure consists of nothing but the family weapon and shield, plus some minor items of convenience. Selling them all would yield less than a sovereign.

I have never lost any thing now i am on a 360 but everything gets put into the chest in your room. I still have managed to get to ostagar with everything i had before

Your room?

I don't recall seeing any room before I went to Ostagar. As soon as I got framed I got kicked out to the Deeproads to fend for myself, practically naked except for stuff I loot off dead people. Is this a variation in story choice?

Caozen was referring to the Dwarf Noble.  The PC in that origin loses all equipment, but keeps money.  But this is still the best pick for money in the game.  If you handle things right, you can sell a letter of credit for 25 gold at the start, plus Gorim is a merchant at Denerim that buys at twice the price of all the other merchants in the game.  (He buys at 50% of value if you play the Dwarf Noble, otherwise all merchants pay 25%.)

Edit: If you're on the PC and using the latest patch, you get to keep the special DLC equipment though everything else (except the money) is still stripped from you.

On xbox Dwarf noble does not lose DLC items. The dwarf commoner on the other hand does (not in the chest, every non DLC item, yes, DLC items, no).

Dwarf Noble starts out and ends with the most gold in the game, by far.

When Lord Dace asks for you to speak for him about the surface dwellers, demand a reward from him and follow what he does. He will basically give you an IOU. Since you can't keep it with you, you can instead sell it to a merchant outside for 25 gold. You also need to make sure to sell all extra items you don't need before talking to Trian in his room because it'll get taken away from you as well. With this and the scribe bribe, you end the Origin story with around ~28 gold.

Dwarf Noble also gets a huge discount and sales advantage with Gorim in the Denerim Market District as well. Always sell your equipment to him whenever you can.

On the contrary, I found it was quite the opposite.

Well dwarf noble can start with like 30 gold I thing I remember, and now you can keep your blood dragon armor too. AND much more importantly and gaining you MUCH MUCH more over the game.. Garin pays double the money for every thing you sell to him that will easily give you near 500 extra GC over the course of the game (IF you return to denerim with all loot and don't just sell in in camp).

Well drat, now I need to restart my dwarf noble, I didn't know about all that, and just had all the stuff stripped. But it makes sense.

As a city elf, during my origin story, I got offered 12 Gold I believe to let Ulrich rape the elven women if I just leave. My character, whom I want to name Bender, hates all humans and she killed him.

I kept pestering that guy until he raised the offer to 40g. Then I stashed it in a hole in Denerim or I assume the guards would have taken it from me lol.

But thanks for the feedback guys.. it appears the most profitable playthough would probrably be a dwarf noble rogue.

Even if you'd leave the origin with 0 cash (and you can have much more) it would still give you much more gold very very fast. In my solo run I've bought every thing I need (I've spend 750 gc and still have 360 gc just before the landsmeet)

Once you can start pumping out potent lyrium potions, your origin is of little consequence. However, a dwarf noble gains access to infinite gold very early on since he/she can make a profit by selling crafted lyrium potions to Gorim.

heh! The Dwarven Noble can sell that Golem DLC mace to Gorim soon after Lothering, and gain enough starting gold (ca.800 gp) to gain a few items usually seen at end game.

In magi origin I looted everything that wasn't bolted down in the circle of magi floor and I made quite a nice sum.

679 gold and 10 silver to be exact.

Might as well be 800 gold though, you can buy whatever you want. How much for Denerim?

Where Gorim got that much cash, I'll never know. Guess he robbed the royal palace before he was kicked out of Orzammar :)

Haha, well that's a flaw with most merchants in most games...they just buy everything from you...your dirty socks, the rock in your boot, pocket lint...they happily take it off your hands and give you cash for it.

Human Noble Rogue I have got about 6 gold with, you need to have the stealing skill and lockpicking lvl1. Steal from everyone, Also remember to take all the gear off your mom to get the money from that(about 1 gold give or take) and the stuff in the armory sell good too.

Also a Mage with stealing and coercion is a good start too about 3.5-4 gold, Dont forget to take Jowan and lily's gear off.

Gorim seems to have married a wealthy woman.  Not sure on the total amt he gives, but it is worth the reunion coming to Denerim a little early.
