@azarhal

This. Had she not gone through a catharsis and changed throughout the movie, then she might have been a villain. As it is, she let go of her hate and I don't think Bioware will contradict existing canon. At least, not again with so many people sore on the subject.

There is also Cassandra defrosting as she hears Varric's tale. She eventually comes to the conclusion that Meredith was to blame. Then, Varric, being impartial, comments that one could say the idol or Anders to blame, but then concedes that it might not have gone so far if Hawke wasn't there, being a beacon for danger.

I think I'd like Cassandra as a companion.

This.

Considering that she was the protagonist of Dawn of the Seeker and was portrayed in a positive light, I think it is far more likely that she'd be a companion in DA3 than a villain.

Calling it now: She'll probably be a companion and one of the female LIs.

I'd rather she wasn't a companion. Having her taking orders from the PC would undermine her badass status.

Being a companion doesn't necessarily mean that she has to take orders.

I'm sure the writers will do something suitable. It's their character..I'm sure they're protective enough to keep it on track. It's not like they're fan fiction writers who distort characters into frollicking about with Captain Kirk and Bella Swan (at the same time), and saving the world with Legolas and the Justice League. And lets not forget the orgies.

I get this feeling she will be essentially like Alistair was in DA:O and your sibling/Varric were in DAII. The first companion you get.

Was Hawke commanding the guards of Kirkwall? No.

The player controlling the characters doesn't necesarily mean that the PC (Wardens/Hawke) is giving the orders. It's just a gameplay mechanic. We also don't know yet what role the PC will have in DAI. Cassandra might be your mentor or boss for all we know. She just happen to tag along for missions, watching everything you are doing...and chewing you out everytime you aren't doing what you are supposed to be doing.

are you talking about the dragons in dawn of the seeker? they specifically identify them as drakes. you know, male dragons that don't have wings... but they somehow fly? what? is it me or does that go against da lore?

anyway, I'm fairly certain Cassandra will will be a companion.

So if she's mentor to the PC, then that makes her the only character to outrank the PC in the story. So much like past mentor character Duncan, she will be dead within an hour or so?

Why does it have to compare to Duncan? Not all authorities die within an hour. Captain Anderson in Mass Effect lasted awhile.

So as 2 out 3 of those people have "mysteriously disappeared".Will it mean that in a shock twist at the end Cassandra mysteriously disappears and is never heard from again.

@ Street magic:^ Its just idle speculation.

Ah, I didn't even think about that. I can't wait to see what happens.

I think it would be a cool twist, but honestly I would rather not see her again. She did not impress me in da2.

I feel that villain would be to strong a word. So far (from our clever cast of dwarves, men and elves) the closest thing that even comes to "evil" is Howe. Cassandra doesn't strike me as a potential villain, rather, she looks like she can be DA3's "Loghain."

Seriously, what I am I missing? What special codex did I run past. Did some of you not even take 5 minutes out, let alone an hour or so, to watch Legend of the Seeker? Where does the Loghain comparison come from? Loghain was set up as problematic from the beginning (in the Stolen Throne). Loghain is endowed with a Nixonian like persona that's obviously "villanous" and makes him paranoid of anything to do with Orlais. Even Flemeth thinks Loghain is trouble. Cassandra hasn't shown any of this. And not only that, Bioware has spent millions of dollars just to make a movie dedicated to one character's heroics. They haven't even done that for Alistair or Maric or Duncan. Now she's a villain?

I'm the one who started with Loghain, but I did not compare them. I just said it would be a cool twist IF Cassandra turned out to be a antagonist or rival that we could get a "Loghain Option" at some point where she replaces a companion or something at the end.
Like Loghain can replace Alistair.

Nope. I never mix media. Game world is a game world, I do not read the books or watch the movies.

(Also, from the sound of it, she sounded action-hero like and action heroes rarely impress me.)

So you do you not read the history or prehistory in the codexes either? It's all the same thing, written by the same staff. Stuff to flesh out the world as a whole.

I don't think you would, the movie is okay, but Cassandra isn't. Regalyan (a mage guy) carries the movie.

How about the part where she was searching for an obvios villain (Hawke) to blame the current crisis on and solve her problem, and when that failed went straight on to mention some vague 'other plan'.

She has potential to be an good written antagonist, in fact I think she has better potential as antagonist than as companion. Obviously wants to do good, but can jump to conclusions which could put her on a different path than the protagonist, because we as player already knows her she start out with some symphathy for some which makes us more inclined to listen to her.

Companion wise, she is not what I want.

The codexes are in the game, no? Then I read them. As for the books and the characters. If they want to make it important, show it in the game somehow or keep it out.
