Good point about the olympic outfits and such, look at speed skating, the suits are tight and form fitting because it keeps them aerodynamic. not everything has to be about sexing something up. Now I am not saying this dynamic does not exist, but what if it does? When did it suddenly become a crime for something to be sexy?

Silence! Stop making sense.

Business as usual and an older saying that goes something like this: "Go fishing where the fish bites".

It's not a crime but it looks ridculous when it's restricted to one gender.

I didn't have a problem with the skin suits in ME1 because everyone had them on.

ME2 had Jacob and Thane in skin suits true but they were outnumbered by Samara, Jack and Miranda. (Least they were equally ridculous).

ME3 then takes it up to 11 by making EDI sexy and having comments in the artbook with female designs stressing said sexiness.

That crossed the line to me.

We have MP characters wearing armour that you just called skin suits, which are male.

Quarian suits are also pretty form fitting for even the men, despite a belt that would make the WWE jealous.

why are you on the mp forums then? It's also silly that when someone points out some of the male suits being just as tight and form fitting, you dismiss it altogether. I've seen armor on female characters that is way more over the top than in mass effect (look at tera online or similar titles) Yes it's impractical, but I also consider this as well... we are examining a universe that has mono gendered blue aliens in it, and where most people can shoot waves of dark energy at their enemies. Things will tend to be fantastical. When you have male designers, it's bound to happen that women tend to get designed in a sexy way. If there were more female artists, we'd probably see the reverse, they're just creating what they'd like to see. Though honestly I think bioware was pretty fair with their designs. Look at kaiden when he gets injured compared to ashley, why do they have him bare chested when he's in the hospital? It was obviously meant as eye candy.

It's not restricted to one gender - take a look at the drell (male), the Slayer (male), the male quarians, hell, the Destroyer. All of them are sexualized (who the hell wears pimp trenchcoats in battle?), and there's nothing really wrong with that.

I was more addressing the statement about it being restricted to one gender than anything else in my case.

I'd also argue that designers don't design what they want to see but rather what they think the players want to see, which despite a near 50/50 split on gender in gamers, there's still the belief that gaming is a male dominated thing.

Though I'm still pretty sure Kaiden didn't walk around bare chested for half the game for my benefit =P

I just said I read the thread title and not the forums. One would think I got here by reading down the previously responded to threads reading the thread without realizing I was in the MP section. Sheesh.

And dismiss it altogether? I just said I wanted consistency. But whatever if you're that insistent on taking offense go ahead. You'll notice I mistakenly thought were were talking about SP...where no it's not balanced.

And yeah it is eye candy I didn't say it wasn't. You say that like Ashley's skintight shirt is any less eyecandy (along with Miranda's asshots). I have no problems with equal eyecandy situations.

And reading the above it seems there is plenty of balance. Not so much in SP. Which is why I bowed out since I was discussing the wrong subject.

That is true in many cases, though it's also a bit antiquated to think that most males will buy a game just because it has an attractive woman attached to it. I could run off plenty of games that were successful without needing such things. In that respect it's why I think some artists just take liberties, because they feel like it, I just don't see sexual allure being as big of a draw these days.

Look at garbage like Scarlet Blade, built entirely around the premise of titilating it's audience, but most gamers see it for what it is, a piece of trash devoid of any real merit. In that respect I like to think the MP here is quite tasteful and people play it because it's fun, not because there are a few kits wearing catsuits.

Armor is really cool and it sucks when female characters get the shaft because male designers think with their boners. It's not that bad in Mass Effect, but you still get atrocities like the AIU.

the Slayer, male Quarians and DESTROYER sexualized though? Are you kidding me?

The Shadow is a reskin of the Nemesis. The only differences are the helmet and the sword. Both have heels.

She's like what happens when a Nemesis decides she wants a promotion.

I guarantee you if the female characters in ME3 multi weren't so "idealized" looking you would be hearing this constantly bandied about:

1) The female characters don't even look female /whine

2) Wow the female characters look manly why didn't they use a female character form they just recycled the male ones! (or whatevery they call it)

3) Why do the female characters have to be ugly? Butchy?

Etc etc etc.

At the very least the armors cover mostly the whole body if not the entire body for each female character right? It's just form fitting and that's because of the latest technology. Everyone knows maximum flexibility is desirable in combat situations..as long as the men have reach we're all good.

Yeah, I don't know if I could stand even more threads about how the Human Female Soldier's armour is so bulky that she's bigger than half the men in the game.

Yes. You have to keep in mind that the standards of what is considered "sexy" are different for female and male. The Destroyer is definitely sexualized - look at his shoulders and ass (I frequently do ). Real life soldiers don't have that kind of physique, I can guarantee you.Same with male Quarians.

Finding something attractive and sexualized design are two very different things.
