Have the disc? Great. Want to play? Extra 10 dollars for the disc to work.

Let's not be a slave and get too excited homie

Oh I'm far from excited. I'm waiting for the additional online initiative that'll make all of this pointless.

There's usually always a catch. Best to stay in tune

I can take or leave this news. I always buy new, so it never affected me. If it helped publishers recoup lost profits from the secondary market, then I was all for it. If they're saying now that it didn't do then, then by all means get rid of it.

I fear what, if anything, that they might replace it with, though. Not because I distrust EA like some of you, but just because from where I was sitting things were already pretty good.

Perhaps they are fed up with being named company of America and are looking to get back in touch with their customers.

Actually I don't think EA give a **** about winning that meaningless award when there are actually comapnies who have done ****tier things that actually matter in real life. Like the oil spill and the ****ing of the economy. EA just do entertainment and probably shouldn't even be a contestent for the top 20 let alone number 1.

Like... no more online passes... NOW ALL GAMES WITH HAVE ALWAYS-ONLINE DRM!

MWUHAAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

That's what I was thinking. :)

Although if the next gen. consoles actively hinder the use of used games in any way then it's no big deal for EA to drop the online pass.  Of course they may just be planning to relaunch it with an extra dose of PR spin.

Good riddance. Throw Day 1 DLC and forced multiplayer on the chopping block while you're at it.

Fast Jimmy, you've got to build up to that. Gosh don't you know how to be evil? First every game disk or digital, pc or console version must be verified by Origin every month. THEN comes the Always-Online DRM!

Why would they remove online passes? I think online passes are reasonable its microtranactions and drm that are the problems. Honestly removing online passes is stupid no one was even complaining about them. Do EA listen at all?

EA to Online Passes: "You have failed. We will find another way. Releasing control."
*Online Passes turns its scaly insectoid head towards the oncoming explosion that will surely engulf and evaporate it.

It's a step in the righ direction, but online passes were actually the things that almost didn't bother me (as I tend to not give a damn about MP in most games).

Love how when something that can be seen a good news for the consumer comes from EA people still find a way to spin it into a negative.

It's a trap!

On PC you can't buy new titles used anyways (unless you register each one of them on different Origin account and trade it along with the game?), if the no used games always on DRM nextgen crap turns out to be true, many people called it as getting some goodwill out of removing a soon to be obsolete feature. =]

Oh they do. Everyone with a bit of sense knows the award means nothing, but that "tallest tree catching the wind" PR statement gave me many joyful minutes.

Sony confirimed that there won't be always online and I think MS confirmed it too.

Never thought I would live in an era in which EA would decide to end one of its monetization models. Now I am waiting to hear news about abandoning DRM....

That will determine whether EA is ready to cut the bull**** and start treating their customers w/ respect rather than thieves since the use of DRM creates a presumption of guilt against those who don't pirate their games.
