Anybody else excited for the next numbered installment of this demon battling franchise? Some small story details can be found in the recent Ritual trailer. The protagonist of the story travels to a place known as Mikado Castle in order to become a "Saw Mu Rye". They're supposed to be noble protectors of the land, crushing various demons in their wake and keeping the peace in the land.

This is the first of the main Shin Megami Tensei games to have voice acting.

Equipment Gameplay

A few trailers just to start. I'll look for some more and try to add any new ones as they come.

The first print of the game will automatically be a Limited Edition of the game which includes a strategy guide and design book, music collection of Shin Megami Tensei CD, and a slip case.

It's coming out in Japan on May 23rd and July 16th in North America.

I've only started playing Persona 4 but this looks promising. Lucky me for having a 3DS, I guess.

So that's your first game in the series, spin-off or otherwise? Just like me. I finished it for the first time not too long ago and knew I had check out other games so I bought Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Persona 3 FES. Both are awesome games so far.

Day 0 buy. Getting it digitally and physical for the preorder stuff. I have to own the soundtrack. I think it's worth mentioning this game will be $50. I don't mind I'd rather pay an extra $10 to get it this quickly instead of waiting a year.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that off the bat. Apparently it has to do with this being a "premium" 3DS title. Understandable as you're more often than not getting bang for your buck with these games.

Came across some interesting articles:

The game director for SMT IV talks about how the series is the antithesis of the JRPG.

SMT IV has its own version of Cortana. This article also details the upgrades to the gauntlet players can have at their disposal:

Demon Analyze - View abilities demons have

Skill Smoother - Decrease MP cost of Demon Skills

Scout Gift - Befriended demons give gifts

Negotiate - Stops demons from attacking

Fundraise - Ask for Macca

Mapper - Auto-maps an area

I'm pretty sure I preordered this (I may have to go check and make sure that I did, heh). I got hooked on P4G on my Vita thanks to my friend, and then he convinced me to play P3P. And THEN he got me to get Soul Hackers and Devil Survivor Overclocked. I still have to get around to playing them because he ALSO got me hooked on Phoenix Wright (finally finished the third game this week, so eventually I will get through the SMT games :P ).

Sawmiurye... I can't stand that pronunciation, those american VAs can't compete with the original Japanese Seiyuu.

I don't want to experience another FE Awakening with the NA printing issues. The extra 10 dollars will probably be worth the lack of headaches.

I remember seeing a comment saying that was actually the correct pronunciation. Yeah...no way. I think American VA's and the voice directors should make the effort to try to keep their pronunciation as close to the original as much as possible. Like how in Naruto, Sasuke Uchiha's VA Yuri Lowenthal doesn't have this heavy, "American" pronunciation of words like "Sharingan", "Sakura", or "Naruto".

Oh my... Naruto. Have you noticed how they pronunce Naruto? It's like "Naerutoe". I can't stand it. After you watch anime with original audio or know Japanese or both like me for so long (lulz only 3 years), you start to get annoyed by it. In my case I hate it, I never watch dubbed anime.

I'm good with hearing both, it really just depends on how good the voice acting is. But yeah, Naruto is kind of bad.

I'm hoping to get this pre-ordered near the beginning of next month. I want that soundtrack.

A Gamestop clerk told me I can get something extra at regular price if I preorder. Is that what you're talking about?

The game isn't regularly priced, pre-order or not, so I don't know. It's $10 more than a usual 3DS game because it's "Premium". I read on the US website that the first printings were automatically Limited Editions that come with the soundtrack, design book, slip case and a strategy guide. And it didn't say you had to preorder to get it. I want to preorder to be sure though.

Then again all these extras could be why it's "premium".

While preorder bonuses are pretty useless to me for the most part (EA, I'm looking at you), it comes down to "why not"? If it's going to stay at 50 bucks for a good while then I might preorder.

Also, it isn't Naw-rue-toe? Everything I know is wrong :(

NO U! I was just on GI, why didn't I look to see if there was anything on SMT IV!? I actually forgot to post an impressions article from siliconera (I might've butchered that name) from a while back. I think it was posted like May 15th or something.
