There seem to be three main "camps" if you will.

Those who dislike their space elf/green skinned space babe/seeming author's pet angle.

And those who just plain don't like Liara.

Plenty of other variations of course but those three seem to be the most prominent.

The problem with the Asari to me is that there is not a single sympathetic or interesting one in the entire series, save for Samara, Tela Vasir and Aria. Not even gonna mention what Bioware did to Liara in ME3.

But that's off-topic.

Yup, I definitely see the different groups, simply never understood the level of hate emanating from more extremes of those camps.

On top of the fact that I feel hating an entire fictional race because of one character is quite unreasonable.

People don't like the idea that a mono-sexual species would have female-type body parts.

Considering that conception comes from a type of symbiotic DNA interaction it would make sense that any phenotype gender attributes would then be female (male breeds, females conceive and support life). It also makes sense that a mono-sexual species interacting with dual-sexual species would have no issue in using their "sexuality" in ways that were freer than what was considered normal by the rest of the galaxy. After all, there's no sexual hangups between genders for a species that doesn't have genders.

Now this assumes a few things in biology that might not be the case but is accepted as the general norm throughout most mainstream Sci-Fi fiction but people would rather scream "female exploitation!" and be done with it.

Well, there are also people hating the geth because of Legion's desperate moralic u-turn to save its race. In case of the Asari, it's not the question is not which one is a good character but which one isn't a bad one. And that saddens me.

I never found Aria to be all that interesting, and I don't see why she would be either more interesting or more sympathetic than Liara, considering that one is not really all that concerned with innocent life.

if I was going to pick a species to be annoyed with, it would be those damn salarians.

Well, Liara from ME1-ME2 pre-Shadowbroker was just fine. You could see her character developing - she had to prevail in the cruel world of information brokering. But then, those thousand redesigns and this forced SB stuff. I thought it can't get worse. I've been proven wrong.

In ME3 her face has been killed off. She suddenly gets breast implants (one does not simply get a redesign without bigger boobs), lots of scales, appearantly camps in front of my cabin and is a galactic Kristen Stewart, never looking different than this.  Except for when godly Javik puts on his deal with it face.

And you've got people hating on the Quarians for just trying to survive. Look what they did to the Quarians. You've got that suit-wetter Val'Koris, old war horse Han'Gerrel, Ms. waiting to see which way the wind blows Shala Ra'an, end justifies the means #1 Daro'Xen, end justifies the means #2 Rael'Zorah, just following orders Kal'Reegar, PTSD Veet'or, and finally Ms. passive-aggressive Tali'Zorah. Which one is a sympathetic character? Probably Tali since she's a popular LI. People hating on them for resorting to a desperate measure to save their race. But there's a thread to debate this -- keep that there.

The Geth? They give us Legion. -- not so sympathetic with Geth VI.

The Krogan? They give us Wrex. -- not so sympathetic with Wreav.

The Salarians? They give us Mordin. -- I've never seen Padok Wiks.

The Turians? If it wasn't for Garrus....

Meh, to each their own, I liked her becoming the shadow broker (but would have preferred her to exhbit her ruthless side a little more) even if Bioware wasted it, I like her getting more scaly makes her more alien and less "blue human" and have never really spent all that time staring at her chest so I never really noticed the bust increase. She also shows up to your cabin without an invitation, though she knocks both times, only twice and both times it's to inform you of something War-Related.

I think the close-ups on the ass of Miranda much more appealing.

But I understand the hate for Asaris. Mainly by Liara.1 - The game seems to push you to her. Who feels repugnance must be tense. But I understand a mechanism to show that there is that possibility.2 - Changed a lot of her personality ME1> ME2. That pisses me off.

How does the game push you to her? I have multiple playthroughs unless she is romanced she simply comes off as a close friend and nothing more.
