I give it a 9.8 out 10 i miss the level up system from the first giving u more accuracy if u leveled up ur guns and the planet scaning in this one takes a really long time so maybe in the next 1 do a planet wide scan then mark points of intrest and send probes accordinly. but other than that i love the game

Gamearena 9.5/10 Australian site.

For me so far so good. I had no problems installing the game and download and installing extra stuff from Cerberus Network. In tech point of view to my surprise the game runs smoother with some glitches that I notice. But the game play alot different from the first game. Least I can customise the keys in the game. So stuff that Dead Space. I like the mini games to. Sweet.

Glorious this game is simply glorious! :)

I really enjoyed this game. Even better then DO when it comes to charachter interaction. I love the fact that the interaction with you love interest have developed, more banter and tension. Not just lame comments like "I like your teeth, they are white and straight." Great stuff. The game has a faster pace and the atmosphere is much better. Music is darker and the story is very well written. Being an epic speeches junkie I do miss those, there where 2 really good ones in ME1 but maybe there are some in ME2 coming. In any case this game is glorious bioware. Spot on and a joy to play. Best game youve done so far :D.

Feels like ...  Morrowind to Oblivion. Better in so many ways but it lost a little soul getting there.Image IPB

It's so good I just want to sit around Afterlife and just bs with a bunch of friends online.

Would love it when/if the mass effect universe expanded into something more social.

9/10

Finished in 45 hours, more than my first DA:O playthrough which really surprised me. I didn't feel like I was wasting much time either, just doing a nice pace.

Really great game, much better than the first. I miss some of the smaller details from the ME1, character interactions mostly. The game suffers a bit from not having a more direct villain whom you can antagonize. Also tries at times to be a bit too "edgy" with bad results, but overall, very successful. I don't miss elevators (love the references you added), don't miss inventory, sure as hell don't miss cookie cutter planets and side quests.

It could have used one or two more main story missions, not related to gaining your crew. It feels a bit incomplete like that, basically just getting all the people and then hitting the Relay. Hmm.. also the "revelations" in this game weren't as powerful in ME1, but I just think that's from the fact that it is a sequel and they didn't catch us off guard as much, since we do know some of what is going on already.

Combat was fun as hell, and that's all I needed. Thanks Bioware.

To play ME2, I did a Lv42 Soldier ME1 the week before and when I copied my Shepard over I was super excited..

Then to my horror, lol and suprise the controls are changed. I kept banging on space key to bring my UI and E-key to wanting to talk to NPCs (i usually leave my key mappings default)

No problem.. after a few hours into the game i was like, hmmm... sure the game is fantastic in graphic and audio but what happened to the RPG elements? o_O

ok ok no prob, adapt and adjust. much much cooler fight elements (FPS if you want to **** it) but i really missed my gear and stats management. I really love ME1's character customization. I love to do fine tweaking. ME2's generic gear upgrades and simple skill level ups work ok but not 'fun' for me ... that's in my hate list.

I've read the reviews here and I can understand the concerns. ME2 doesn't transition well from ME1, it doesn't improve certain aspects of the RPG element, otherwise the other improvements mentioned by various reviews are awesomely great. The over simplifying 'improvement' really hurt the game alot and it's really frustrating when I can't even do some of the cool stuff in ME1.

I might have the wrong expectations coming in ME2 but isn't this a trilogy? Why the over-emphasis on the 'shooter' element and down-sizing of the rpg element escapes my reasoning. I watched the Special DVD (collectors edition) and the making of ME2 segment didn't give me any answers...

Really Bioware, if I want an immersive shooter I'll pop my Modern Warfare 2. I love your games so think this over before repeating ME2's formula for ME3. Cheers!

Ok, I am going to back off of my criticism a touch.  The game is without question good.

I still believe that much of what made Mass Effect what it was has been removed but ME2 is good in its own right.

Here is what I want to see in ME 3 and as anyone could expect it is compromise.

First off we have got to lose the SCAN system for acquiring minerals. The biggest problem with the MAKO was navigating difficult terrain. MY solution. Make the Jump jets more effective. Give players the ability to simply fly over difficult terrain features so they aren't constantly looking for one path they are able to actually drive the MAKO on. I even speculated on jump jets for the characters themselves instead. Different but still feasible and adds a technology evolving feel. Also it's an opportunity to use physics to enhance the immersive feel. Higher gravity worlds would be more difficult to navigate as the jump jets would be exponentially less effective and burn more fuel.

The combat system in ME 2 is similar to gears of war in some ways. You no longer use medi-gel to heal yourself you just heal naturally if you spend time without taking damage. Personally I am not really fond of this. It is to keep the action flowing but you could achieve the same effect by simply making medi-gel more common  or Shepard having a larger stock on hand. This brings a more strategic feel back into the game. And balancing the dichotomy between shields and armor in the first game could really change the way a person played the game giving it a personalized feel to it. I would like to see this returned.

I would like to see a compromise between the RPG and shooter elements in the game. In terms of combat I would see this as a kind of auto aim feature. If you're off the mark a touch but your character has spent a number of points with the gun in question it would compensate by adjusting your fire to be more effective. And if you are on the mark and have spent points with the gun, shots would hit critical areas and do more general damage. The closer to the mark you are the more you hit. Just balance it out. And if certain players don't like this feature they should be able to turn it off for true 1:1 aiming. This could also serve as a boon for said player because they could spend their EXP elsewhere.

Please bring back an inventory of some sort. Fix the issues with the first, dont just eliminate it from the equation entirely. Add more spice to weapons by changing things like rate of fire and damage. Having a myriad of different armors and weapons is nice and adds to the scope of the world.

LOSE THE SPLASH SCREEN!! We aren't playing Doom or Wolfenstein. A fair compromise is making the splash screen accessible in the codex or journal.

The new powers aren't bad but it would be nice to see some of the ones we are familiar with from the first game mixed in with the new.

Back up off the pacing a little. Give the characters the option of attrition. The game should be able to be action packed or more strategic depending on the class chosen and the player. The system itself shouldn't force it.

And this is nothing but it would be cool if a friend could play one of my squad members over X-box live. They would see my conversations from that squad members perspective. I imagine that is difficult to implent though and would require extensive programming. Just a thought.

As always these are just opinions. And at the moment they also happen to be the opinions of a drunk. =)

Gamereactor Finland gives ME2 10/10 Gamereactor

Good: storytelling, soundtrack, characters, intensive and diverse battles
Bad: long load times

Graphics: 9, Gameplay: 10, Sound: 10, Longevity/replay-value (sp?): 9

The guy was really amazed by the graphics and he really goes on and on about how awesome the game looks, and yet he gives the graphics a 9. That's the only odd thing about the review that I noticed.

I have finally settled on a method for scanning planets thoroughly and quickly. It involves wasting a probe in alot of cases though. I have been setting a place marker at a polar extreme and scanning laterally across the surface. I place the reticle on a latitude line-- thereby scanning two blocks at a time-- and use both thumbsticks, one to move the reticle, the other the planet. When the reticle hits the extreme side of the planet it doubles the speed of the reticle as the planet rotation is added to the speed of the reticle itself. When I reach my place marker I move it down to the next two segments and repeat until the planet is scanned completely. Any thoughts?

Anyway the planet scans is a bit too much work, i have patience but not that much patience.

If driving on planets is introduced again in ME3 i suggest they should use the upcoming dx11 tesselation technique to remove the spikey triangle shaped mountains and make them more smooth to drive on.

I mean if i had to climb such ME1 mountains in reallife i would cut myself :P

Awesome game. Every change was an improvement. I particularly love the minimal interface. My only criticism is there wasn't much of an improvement in character creation options.

The games really good Imo, truly "emotionally engaging", cinematic and just awesome.

One of the few things i didn't like is lack of AA.

But either way ME2 is 9.7/10 for me.

5/10 The gutted inventory, the addition of ammo and the lack of an RPG character stats system left this game in a wanting state for me and many others.

The game's design elements and story are good but lets hope that ME3 is similar to ME1.

The Graphics are good, the sound is good except for when one of your party members yells out "All is clear" when you holster your gun. Damn nearly crapped my pants.

The reviewer obviously did not play the first one or he would not have given such a high score.

And you must have never played a video game before if you think ME2 is only a 5 out of 10.

I haven't finished yet, played for maybe 5 hours.

So far this game is worth its money.

Story, world and player immersion is just as great as it was in ME1 and that's the most important part of this game anyway, imho.

Streamlining the talent system seems to be ok and works well enough,

loosing the inventory needs getting used to, but is implemented well via the upgrade system.

The one thing i don't like is the ammunition system and that you refill your ammo supply by walking over them. The old overheat system feeled more streamlined and you didn't have to worry for your ammo supply.

Both systems are unrealistic for a SciFi world but the old system worked great at least from a gameplay perspective.

The new system feels like I'm playing Counterstrike.Nothing against Counterstrike, UT and the like,

but it costs me a bit of immersion. Don't know how to describe it properly.

Oh yeah, and both Decryption minigames are tedious and boring.

Scanning planets is boring too, instead of the tedious mako side quests now you have boring scan quests ^^.

Nevertheless, all in all ME2 is a quality game!

Only Gripe is there is really no loot. I know you guys tried to tone down the menu on the shops and things we carried but, I still miss the drops. Aslo I am not really seeing any stats on weapons and armor I mean I see upgrades and all but, still not the same as being able to put armour on other comrades.

To make a long story short it is missing that "Hey Look I found a nice new piece of Krogan Battle Armour". Image IPB
