I can't wait till Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation actually tries to review this game, given that he's notoriously strict, almost trollish and is usually inclined to find and exaggerate any fault or deficiency in a game, especially if the game received high scores from other sites/magazines.

So, you want to hear the review from a guy who is explicitly paid to be biased in his reviews?

I see.

His reviews are entertaining, that's all. They're downright hilarious most of the time, but it isn't as if anyone should base whether or not they buy a game based on Yahtzee's reviews.

His Mass Effect review wasn't great, but if he reviews ME2 I bet it would be far more entertaining. Would it impact my opinion of ME2? Ha, no, not at all. But Yahtzee is always good for a laugh.

Yes, Yahtzee's reviews are actually very good from a perspective of pure entertainment value. I don't value his opinions of the games a whit, but the way he presents his opinions is hilarious.

Indeed. Might get a laugh or two from him, but I really can't take him seriously as a reviewer. I certainly don't see him pulling a Jeff Gerstmann anytime soon.

Anyway, his style's admittedly "borrowed" from Charlie Brooker.

His points are usually founded, despite his ridiculous manner of expressing his feelings. Its pure entertainment, people get too touchy.

I knew after playing Dragon Age that ME2 was going to knock socks off. I've bought fuzzy slippers for the day I pop disc one in.

The german PC magazine Gamestar is giving Mass Effect 2 88% in its 03/10 issue. Its going to be sold on Wednesday 27 but some users with subscription got the mag already. This is the first review below the 90's (might have something to do with EA not wanting ratings below 90 to be published before Jan 26)
Well it's still a good score. ME1 only got 85% from that mag.
Here is the source of the information: http://www.gamestar....ad.php?t=377013
I'll translate the detailed verdict written there:
Graphics (8/10)
+ improved graphics (lightning, particle effects, textures)
+ fantastic animations
- drab environments
- some blurry textures
Sound (10/10)
+ voice cast
+ effects and ambient
+ music
Balance (8/10)
+ weapon balance
- easier than its predecessor
- sloppy talent balancing
Atmosphere (9/10)
+ complex, sophisticated, atmospheric world
+ interesting characters
- bugs
* minigames
Controls (9/10)
+ interface and controls
- weapon changing
Size (9/10)
+ many locations
+ long playtime (50 hrs)
+ many sidequests
Quests/Story (9/10)
+ plot twists, interesting story
+ many sidequests and better than its predecessor
- relatively underwhelming finale
Character mechanics (10/10)
+ less but useful talents
+ varied classes
+ improved dialogues, enhanced influence system
Battle mechanics (8/10)
+ many, well-paced fights
+ pause function
+ squadmates
- A.I.
- alot of brainless shooting
* regenerating health
Items (8/10)
+ many upgrades
+ biotics, combat drones, ammo types
- minigames

Total:88/100

Yeah, well, Gamestar has a terrible review system. They say, they made it to be more transparent, but it hardly does a game real justice, as the most important thing "gaming fun" is ignored. There were already a lot of games like gothic 3 which got a high review besides all faults.

Even though I havent played ME2 yet, I give it a 1....out of 1. ( 0 being a complete failure and 1 being Mass Effect 2)

I'm confused by this part, I've been hearing that ME2 is harder than the first, from almost everyone that's reviewed it..  Perhaps Gamestar "accidently" threw the game on casual and thought it was hardcore ;)

Perhaps its easier in terms that now the game doesnt have that inmunity spaming , which made the game harder (or better said , took you a longer time to defeat enemies)

Ya, fighting Krogan on Insanity was a lesson in patience.  I hope though that the actual game is harder as besides said Krogan the game was easy as hell.

You just needed to learn how to talk to the Krogan, whipser sweet words into there ears and they will fight for you... what I'm the only one who got that?

Dangit, I never thought about doing that...  I always just shot first and never asked questions.  Well, now I have to go back and replay the game to see how many Krogan I can convert ;)

It would make for an awesome scene, 50 Krogans marching in profile behind you as you storm the citadel to fight Saren.

Lol, I can just see it.

"Why are you all following Shepard?!  I payed you to kill Shepard..."

"Well, we talked it over, and after an enlightening discussion with the good commander here we've decided that your just not a very nice Turian."

Really, or just joking?  I admit to being concerned about some of the changes to the RPG mechanics (which some claim would make me a "hater") but I've never seriously doubted ME2 would be at least as good, if not better, than ME1.  As long as the storytelling remained as good and they didn't rehash the plot of ME1 (which I doubted they would do), everything else would probably be an improvement.  And, much as I loved ME1, there was significant room for improvement (texture popping, pacing in some areas, yes, even combat).  So... I'm not surprised.  Very happy to hear it, but not surprised.

I was hoping this game was going to get all 10/10 scores, the reviews are confusing me they are saying ME2 is better than ME1 but they keep giving it a lower score? Atleast we know it is going to be amazing.

Scores are relative thats why.

ME2 is a lot more cinematic than the first one and I enjoy the writing more. One of my biggest gripes with the first game was the plain characters. The only characters I thought were good was saren and wrex. In this game, it's vastly different. I can give an example; Garrus is a lot more interesting than in the first game, he actually has a interesting story and motive. So far, I think ME2 is a lot better than the first one.

You also need to see what the people reviews ME1 at, if let's say Review A gave ME1 a 9.0, and review B gives ME2 an 8.8, it doesn't matter that Review A gave ME1 a 9.0.

No if Review B also gave ME1 9.0, then it would matter, but if they gave it an 8.5 then it's an imrpovment.  And that was one long ass winded example.
