How many people played a character that threw himself at the archdemon and let himself die just because life sucked?

I finally decided to sacrifice one of my wardens [dual wielding Cousland warrior.]
I figure the Cousland just lost most of his family, can't have kids, and realised the woman he is dating is totally gone in the head.
{Leliana,you so crazy.}
Plus the taint and nightmares.
And this warden is actually a decent guy so I'm going to kill him lol.
Or you can list interesting ways you rped your warden and decisions.
Who cares? i'm bored.
:P

First time I tried to throw a character at the arch demon, she had been dumped by Alistair.  That didn't turn out quite as expected.

Image IPB

It hurt.

A few playthroughs later I managed to succeed.

Image IPB

It hurt even more.

I loved both of those endings so much.  I actually cried so much, both times.  I've never had felt much emotion from a video game before.

Thats why I had to wait to use a character that didn't romance Zev.
I am not an overly emotional person, but if I saw his sad face at my wardens funeral I might just cry manly tears.

I didn't notice anybody sadfacing over Alistair or Loghain, though. (Not even Anora over Loghain.) I've never done the Ultimate Sacrifice ending, but I get the feeling it's a lot more emotionally charged than the either version of the "Someone Else Ultimate Sacrificed" ending.

I got the forced Warden-Commander ending on my first PT, although I suspected it was coming. (I knew it happened if you were in the romance, wasn't positive it would trigger once I married him off to Anora.) That Warden was trying to US not so much because everything sucked (although it did) but because as a Cousland, it was her duty to protect the king.

My US!Warden (Brosca) would have loved to have lived, really. It just didn't work out that way.

Did it on my male cousland. He thought he lost everyone after his revenge was done and Howe was dead he just didn't see any point to it anymore. He made friends with everyone he could (whoot 100 affection) but yeah he just couldn't take anymore. He did his duty and that's all that could be reasonably asked of him.

I need to replay him one of these days.

My first Tabris did that. Alistair dumped her, she was despondent, refused Morrigan's offer and that was that.

Would have been better revenge to let Archie eat Alistair :P
Then Zevran can comfort her.

Did it for my Dwarf Noble. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and never realised that Bhelen had tricked him into killing Trian. He'd been on a quest for redemption by self-sacrifice ever since the moment he killed his elder brother, and figured the archdemon was the only foe who could give him the glorious death he wanted. That was a fun runthrough.

I think my favourite ending was a selfish, manipulative **** who alienated everyone except Alistair, who she romanced just to make herself queen. Basically she had all her hopes riding on him, so when Alistair threw himself on the grenade - for her, no less - she was left with no friends and a queen who was pretty much after her blood. A fiting end for the most devious warden I've played.

On my first playthrough my mage elf was dumped by Alistair when she made him king, so she felt that she was the one that had the duty to die to kill the archdemon, in order to preserve her loved one and the kingdom (hate Anora too much to let her rule the country she was going to save giving her life). I tried to sacrifice my warden but Alistair decided to kiss her and kill himself. I was like that D: for the rest of the day

Serves him right though.

Currently working on a Dalish playthough--as long as he doesn't fall for Morrigan then I will sacrifice him. Here's to hoping--since it's the only ending I haven't actually done yet in all this time.

I killed off my one Warden in my "break Alistair's heart" play through.  She had a good heart and would go to any length to protect her friends- for example, she helped Jowan escape the Circle and even after his betrayal she didn't want him to be executed so she told him make a run for it at Redcliffe.  She was an elven mage who fell in love with Alistair and would never force him to do anything he wouldn't want to but would try her best to protect him. He didn't want to be king, so she let Anora stay Queen and he stayed in the Wardens (much to Eamon's annoyance- screw him).  She did kill Loghain herself for Alistair's safety, for should Anora seek vengeance she'd be farrr more likely to kill Alistair.

She listened to Morrigan's proposal for the dark ritual and offered it to Alistair- he freaked out at the idea so she didn't force him and respected his decision. (On a side note, I don't like how he and Morrigan still talk about being king when he wasn't, but that must have been an oversight).

Anyway, at the final battle she left Alistair at the front gates. She wanted to keep him safe (though she made up a BS reason for him being around to warn the other Wardens should she fall which he didn't believe). Then she died slaying the archdemon and Alistair lost the love of his life the same way he lost Duncan. Mwahahaha :)

I didn't see Alistair at my Warden's funeral though.  Anora was the one giving the speech but he still could have made an appearance.  Oh well.  *shrugs*  His epilogue slide was pretty depressing.  He returns to the Wardens for a time, but is later overheard saying it "just wasn't the same anymore".  He disappeared after leaving a memorial for Duncan in Highever.  It's my favorite DA: O tragic ending, poor guy...

Overall I prefer the Ultimate Sacrifice ending for the Warden- the slides for Sten and Oghren were quite touching as well.

Never did the US from an RP standpoint, only as a player interested in seeing new stuff. My first was a Male Cousland who married Anora and Alistair and threw himself on the archdemon. I romanced Leliana that run. I will never do that again, her end slide is depressing as hell.

My second one was a Surana who broke up with Alistair, and left him at the gate, and since I had Cmessaz's Alistair mod I wanted to see some of the end stuff she had added. Romanced Alistair eulogy (even if you break up with him) is the saddest thing I've ever watched in the game.

My last one was the larkiest run I played, right before the release of DA2. I had an insane rogue male Cousland who spared Loghain, but then wouldn't let him sacrifice himself. I had to RP losing his family made him unable to kill Loghain for Anora's sake. So he threw himself on the AD just so I could see Anora's eulogy. I'd also like to note I saw all three endings with this one, Loghain did the DR, Loghain died (for the achievement) and then Roland died. If I had to pick one that was the true ending, it was the Redemption, I just wanted to see as much as I could before the new game was released.

Overall, I liked the ending, along with ending slides for Oghren and Sten especially. The Warden Commander ending was so much less in terms of interesting, and feel. The Warden dies and every one is broken hearted, the entire freaking country stops to mourn. Alistair or Loghain die and they throw a blasted party.

My very first playthru unmodded on Xbox 360 was a Elf Fem mage who romanced Alistair. She spared Loghain and was shocked when he left she was convinced he wasn't really gone, convinced he would show up at the final fight if for no other reason than the fact that this was the arch demon and he was a warden and would want to honor Duncans memory.

Kahlan was devestated and Alistair never showed up. She US.

Alistair broke my heart and it was the most awesome thing I ever felt in a game. I laughed and I cried at the exact same time, how was it possible to feel so attached to a bunch of pixels?

Then I wanted to see how it would play out. Then I beat the game by dying and it was AMAZING!

I cried like a baby at the end I have never been so fulfilled by a video game before. I played the game soooo many times after that. Ibought a PC so I could play a modded DAO.

I played this game for 3 years over and over again. I romanced every character but Morrigan with a warden that completed every game but nothing compared to that 1st playthru.

I almost US a Dalish warden addicted to Lyrium due to her ugly Breakup with Alistair in Redcliffe. Zev gave her hop and healed her broken heart but I the player was determined to have her do the US, she put Ali on the throne with Anora and then spared Loghain but in the end wanted to live and have a chance to be happy with Zevran so she let Loghain perform the killing blow. That was also a very satisfying playthru.

Then I played Caprice a true **** of a city elf she slaughtered the dalish Popped alis cherry made Leils fall in love just to chop her pretty little head off when she disgraced the Ashes for fun and then at the end Made Ali take the killing blow. Bioware makes it really fun sometimes to play really bad characters.

But I am always drawn back in awe to that first playthru when I had my mind blown by just how much Bioware had fooled my limbic center into feeling so intensely for fake people. I was so depressed after that first playthru and at the same time so euphoric. If I did drugs I would think that feeling would be what drugs would feel like and why people would go back for more.

Been chasing that dragon ever since. DAO did US right. Wish ME3 had done that.

I almost laughed at the title of this thread, but yeah, I've done that. My Dalish Warden had chosen the option to flirt with Tamlen at the end of the game. She only joined the Wardens because the Keeper said that she should. She felt obligated to stop the Blight so that her clan would be safe, but she was also kinda hoping the entire time that she would just get killed in battle already, yet for some reason, she just couldn't die.

I think of it kind of like the manga Berserk, where the main character is getting attacked, and he's prepared to die, almost relieved, actually, but when one of the wolves attacking him lunges at him, he instinctually stabs the wolf with his sword, killing it. His body forced him to live, even though his heart didn't want to. (I think waaaaaay too much)

Then, when she saw Tamlen, and knew that she could have kept looking, and maybe saved him, it killed her. When he said he'd always loved her, she just stood there as he attempted to kill her, hoping she could just die already. After Tamlen died, having said he loved her, that's when she decided that she couldn't keep living, and that one way or another, she would die once this was all over.

So when Riordan told her how the archdemon dies, she immediately volunteered. When he said, "Oh, that's noble of you, but no, I will," she was basically like, "This isn't over Riordan."

In my second game I played a dalish female elf rouge.

1. She didn't romance Alistair because she was prideful about her heritage.
2. Was starting to give in to Leliana when Zevran entered the arena.......
3. Decided to keep Morrigan but didn't really trust her or Flementh's motives.
4. Realized for a stable kingdom, win against the Blight and restore the Grey Wardens
Alistair needed to be a king.
5. Loghain was no option because his treachery was horrendous.

So, I turned down Morrigan's offer, made Alistair marry Anora, killed Loghain and had
the only one option left even though I had a full Romance withe Zevran.
And it's was emotional.... how does Bioware pull that off????

I've never done it. My Wardens always find something to live for.

Maybe I'll create a female dwarf noble who never got over Gorim. I could see an ultimate sacrifice in her future.

I'll be killing off my Dalish Elf Warden, which is my current play-through. I think her life does suck. She basically wouldn't be around if Duncan hadn't made her become a Grey Warden. She can't really go back to her people - she'll always be set apart for having become a Grey Warden among all those shems. Her chances for romance include a shem Grey Warden or a city elf assassin so not much of a future for her with either of them.

My human noble Cousland of course had to be married off to Alistair, but unless he's got something going for him from his Grey Warden mother and dragon-blooded father, they will probably never have children and Alistair will have to set her aside in order to ensure the continuation of the Theirin line. So I kind of imagine her future, once she and Alistair acquire a little more age and wisdom, might be pretty tragic too, and she might come to understand that she should have sacrificed herself to kill the Archdemon, after all.
