After Mass Effect 4, it will be "Why do people hate the character Professor Moriarty, the sexy and heroic anti-tax freedom fighter, who is the greatest thinker in the galaxy?"

"Because they's haterz!"

Diana Allers needlessly replaced the part which Emily Wong could have taken. It would have made more sense to have Emily on the Normandy since she seemed to be more inclined to help Shepard. If Bioware wanted an IGN presenter to be in their game they could just as easily sneaked one in elsewhere on the Citadel.

I didn't hate Allers but I would have preferred some more Emily canon. A little more Gianna Parasini wouldn't have gone amiss either. In fact she was a very cool undercover agent who could easily have led Shepard to some very important Reaper findings in a DLC.

Ah Bioware, you had such a good hand to play but u folded.

Exactly. Much better writing/planning would have given us a choice to take along either Wong or Al-Jalani. People already liked Wong, so getting to know her character would've been cool. Also, there would've been a lot of interesting depth and growth to explore with Al-Jalani's character, too, for the duration of the mission. Whoever you didn't take could've wound up dying on the Citadel in a blaze of glory, if that's what the writers wanted, rather than giving us the character's death via a stupid Twitter feed.

That is simply ridiculous. You're acting as if the writers could have brought in Wong, but it was just too much work because the writers are lazy and stupid. Complete nonsense. In fact, it would be LESS work, considering they wouldn't have to model a new character.

For someone who was pitifully trying to trot out the "logical fallacy" horse on someone earlier, you sure have built a beautiful straw man of my position. Perhaps if you stand him up, he'll dance with you.

I don't hate her personally, heck I don't even think her voice acting was as bad as the BSN would have you think. That said I strongly dislike what her character represents, which would be the developer pandering to IGN.

Chobot is the problem not Diana. They should have used a decent voice actress. Chobot isn't even a good reporter. Game reporters take more bribes then dirty cops these days. This is what happens when you take a person best known for licking a electronic device and ask them to use their brain and imagination. It isn't pretty.

I know right! The amount of hate for Diana Allers is completely ridiculous and misguided!

She's clearly the most bestest character in Mass Effect 3 and her character development is something other writers should aspire to.

The problem, quite simply, is that it's unethical.

An reporter for a video game website should not be voicing a character in a video game, full stop. Never mind said character being given the likeness of the reporter to boot. It looks like something underhanded has gone on, and that's the problem.

Now, if this was all just a coincidence, if the role of Diana Allers was intended to be given to the winner of a contest to have your likeness & voice go to a minor character in Mass Effect 3 & Jessica Chobot just happened to win, fine. I'd be skeptical that she genuinely won, but it wouldn't look as bad. But that didn't happen, so it looks really bad that an IGN reporter has her voice & likeness in Mass Effect 3.

I guess she was a little ugly, but there seems loads of hate at her on the forums.

I liked her character and think the silly outrage against her is just people looking for any reason to whine about the endings or she's just another scapegoat for the failures of ME3 in general.  I loved Jessica Chobot on G4 and think she did a good job voice acting.

When Bioware brought up Kai Lang as a possible spin-off character, I'm suprised they didn't bring up Allers.

This video makes Allers enjoyable by even the most cynical ME3 players.

People wear tinfoil hats and hate The Man, so she gets a lot of paranoid nonsense directed at her.

As a character she did have mediocre voice work though, and a strange appearence.

You'd think so, but far too many times I've read conspiracy theories about IGN and Bioware because of her, based on nothing but paranoia.

I hated her due to my bias from face of steel reporter. After running into that girl so many times Allers wants to join and I go, " Oh no....no more reporters please..." because I thought she'd try to twist things. Then I played again and went fine I'm going to suck it up this time and take her along I can always punch her and throw her out the airlock if she turns out to be face of steel 2.0.

But after having her on the ship I felt bad for her she's just in that room 24/7 alone with the drone she never leaves I feel like I'm imprisoning her but her imprisonment did save her life in the end.

I agree with the horrible appearance wardrobe wise it sucked. Voice no I didn't mind it at all I actually didn't even know she was a famous person till I found G4 and she happen to be on. I think people really hate the character because its being voice by her if there was someone else who voiced Allers I don't think people would dislike the character for anything other then her clothing choice.

BioWare were either deliberately flaunting their close connections to the "critical media" or were so used to taking it for granted that it didn't even register as a concern. Either way, it shows poor judgment.

Time spent on her could of been used for a unmasked game model for Tali. She just felt unneeded, wouldn't go as far as to say I hate her.

I mean really, what would have happened if IGN give the game a bad score..  not only would it have hurt the game, but it would have also hurt the reputation of the IGN person in said game. Granted it would have earned kudos points for telling like it is, and in fact made my opinion of IGN better, with this move and my opinion of the game (9.5/10 gameplay but sadly 2/10 on the story, sadly story falls far short on the landing on the 'reveal' and the motive of the Reapers, "troll" logic should never be a good reason for murder, thats the reason Trolls in D&D are given this kind of logic, because honestly something with that kind.)
Its hard to say that considering she is one of the 'big names' of the reviewing world, in reality they should have abstained from doing a review on it.

Really poor character with bad voice acting and was shoved into the game after we already had two reporters (one who got killed via twitter to make room for allers)

I'm wondering why myself Allers isn't the worst character in the ME Series that belongs to Ashley in my opinion for being a racist.

I wouldn't really call Ashley racist. But even so, a character flaw doesn't make someone a terrible character. Being poorly written and poorly acted does.
