BioWare just doesn't have to censor itself, nudity shouldn't be hidden by underwear and gore should be presented when realistic to the situation. Mature themes shouldn't be thrown in for no reason but when presented, they shouldn't be hidden either.

Exactly.

I can understand why you would see it that way. It's a little hard not to when you have characters wearing clothing in a shower scene. It's almost as if BioWare doesn't want to commit to one course. As it is, I think they want to put just one foot in the pool, so to speak. It's hard to call that censorship, though. Because that would imply that BioWare does want to show nudity but EA is telling them they can't.

Whatever the case, I think BioWare should commit to a set course. If they want to do a shower scene or something along those lines, I think they should commit and show nudity. But the important thing to remember is that nudity is being shown because it makes sense within the context of the scene and not because it's the mature or cool thing to do.

That's not new. Some of the first mass-print bound books were pornogrpahic stories.

It's between 19-23 actually.

That's physical maturity (brain). Mental/psychological maturity can be achieved much sooner.

Certainly valid.

If they are going to have a sex scene in which the characters are not nude, besides not making any sense, it's considered hiding. If they leave out parts because they are too violent or disturbing that's called surpression.

Not sure, but I think she was serious.  I know if there had been a DLC with extra conversations for DAO and DA2 love interest, I'd have picked it up.  As for as nudity, I'll take Me1 style sex and nudity over anything else I've seen, but I like the romance, the music, the lighting, the whole package, not just a nude sex scene.

This.

The dialogue really makes the romances.  And nobody needs to be naked for that.

Suppression of who though? They're suppressing themselves at best. And it's their game. They can do what they want. It has nothing to do with you or me. It's not a "community game". It's not a shared enterprise. It's not a collective RPG experience. It's just a game, developed by one company. We are merely fans (or not).

Indeed, but the difference is that people are becoming desensitized to it & now it's conventional.

I want realism. I don't want nudity for the sake of nudity, or something developers usually do nowdays, violence for the sake of violence. I want things to be appropriate.

Not everyone wants nudity in a game just for lustful reasons. You seem to be forgetting that all of us commenting in this thread have access to the internet, where porn is only a Google search away. What you just said is almost as bad as the poeple saying nudity is mature and no nudity is immature.

Each time I see one of these posts about making the game more mature I check in out wondering if there will be anything constructive and every time its about nudity or violence.

For the record I am not against either being in the game and would welcome them if they where used properly, but they do not make a game mature, and they are not necessary to make a good game either.

Or, that's simply choosing how to express what's happening.  You may consider it silly, and you may have a point, but choosing not to do full frontals or invoking the Chunky Salsa Rule is not "suppression"

You're suggesting a new trend is apparent. I'm saying there's nothing new about what you're citing. The future has nothing to do with it. Either behavior is already notably changing or it isn't.
As long as there has been art there has been pornography. As their has been photography there has been pornographic photography. Etc. History says you're wrong.

@ ejoslin Well your previous comparison to Witch Hunt was fishy because that wasn't sex scene DLC at all, and as to your more applicable comparison to nude mods, yeah I think it's pretty stupid that bioware would actually produce and sell such a thing. There's a reason those are mods. It does say something about who they're trying to cater to. Call me closed-minded.

No, the reason I'm comparing it to witch hunt is that it, in a major part, was giving closure to the Morrigan romance, though it didn't advertise itself as such.  Many people who romanced Morrigan were very happy with it for that reason, while it offered little, really, but more questions for people who didn't romance her.

And DA2 and DA3 (most likely) doesn't/wont have the tools out to make mods like that.

It actually is more in response to people being offended by sex scenes and someone suggested a toggle and someone suggested DLC instead.  And I pointed out it would make a lot of $$

There's no way I think that BW would make it, though.  So obviously, they're not only about the $$ like many like to claim.

ETA: I also pointed out that there were people who said they bought DA2 DLC for the additional banter that the LIs had.  There obviously is a market for this.

Speaking of fan made romance mods, I wonder how much they could have charged for a professional "Alistair's Wedding."  I bet a LOT.  A "Zevran's Wedding" probably would have had a few more sales.  Too bad all the Zevran's Wedding projects got abandoned.  The couple scenes that were made were quite good.

True, it could make them money. I'm not sure about "a lot" of money. And I think there would be a big backlash on the perception of it which could do more harm than the money they make; people already casually say bioware is becoming a dating sim developer. So to say it would be a no-brainer to do it if all they cared about is money, so they're only not doing it because they don't want to (even if that is also a valid reason), I think does not quite fit the bill.

I would have called Witch Hunt a companion/lore centric DLC of mediocre/poor quality. Not a DLC made for Morrimancers per se. See how perception here also impacts one's judgment of the DLC, if I am right in understanding that you're not too happy about it being for Morrimancers personally even if you defend it as a sound business decision.

I'm also not sure why DA2 apparently didn't have any nude mods, since it had plenty of skimpy-outfit mods. My understanding is that a nude model is just like any other outfit model. Of course I'm no expert on modding.

I really don't get the idea behind this. "Let's make the game darker until we are pushing for an A rating!" Wut? Why? Pushing it everywhere cheapens it. Makes it pointless.

For the gore, save that in-depth, overly detailed stuff for when you need to make a statement. Such as Mass Effect 2. I really think that scene, when in comparison to the rest of the game, nails how to make gore say something profound. Don't go all Gears-y and have it all over the place.

For the nudity, I see no plausible benefit for adding it in either the story or gameplay aspect. I really don't. Just another offshoot of romance overemphasis imo.

Speaking of appropriate gore, I loved when the Arishok threw the Viscount's head to the nobility.

Technically, they are making their own choices but they're really bi-polar about it. When they use nudity to market the game, they shouldn't be surprised when people come on the forums asking where it went.

For example, Dragon Age: Origins advertised "sex and violence" and Dragon Age 2's Valentine's Day marketing showed the romance scenes with the characters "naked", yet constantly lambast anyone who mentions anything about it.

Have you heard of the word taboo? What's taboo 100 years ago isn't 300 years later. Everything is constantly changing, and the future is its greatest contributor. Culture changes, society changes, its inevitable. History hasn't proven me wrong, if anything history has proven me right since no one seems to fully learn for its teachings. People draw lines to what's right & wrong, but the line keeps getting pushed back further & further. People are like leafs in the wind; no sense of foundation or direction. The future will determine who is correct, so let us live and wait.

This is why I love the BSN. Right here.

You know what's funny, and I'm not trolling now:  It's that teenagers of every generation think their version of sex is new and original, and every generation past the teenage years think things are somehow worse than when they were teenagers.  Hint, things actually haven't changed, people haven't changed, and things are not somehow "worse" when it comes to sex.  it's always happened, it always will happen, it's the strongest drive we have apart from hunger and thirst, and you know, it's just part of being human.

What is getting worse is thanks to photoshop and various animated things, bodies now have an ideal that is impossible to obtain, and flawed humans somehow think they are not sexy because they can't live up to that ideal.

Political rant aside, sex is a part of life, a part of love, a part of romance, and a part of adult communication.  You cannot tell me that men don't bond with each other when everyone looks at a pretty butt going by, just as women will talk about men and notice a square jaw or large hands or whatnot and will talk about that as well.  We're sexual beings, and it's nice when that's acknowledged without it being surrounded by shame or tittering.

Sex can be portrayed maturely in a video game as a part of a romance.  It doesn't have to be gratuitous; it doesn't have to be there to show the omgboobz -- it can be there, as explicit or as implied as possible (implied actually is better so people can fill in their own blanks) and have it be part of an expression of caring.

People giggle over the pearl and the three/foursome in DAO -- people get up in arms about the love scenes, both for and against.  But there is nothing wrong wtih telling a story where making love is a part of a relationship.  It doesn't mean it has to be THE FOCUS (and in fact, I hope it wouldn't be), but having it there is a nice touch.

I liked DAO's scenes, underwear silliness aside, because every single scene showed tenderness.  Morrigan's scene, Leliana's scene, Alistair's scene, Zevran's scenes, -- the all showed caring.  The DA2 scenes were fun in that they really portrayed the different personalities, even though the after was a bit of a letdown.  The sex didn't need to be shown -- it was fine as is.

However, these were very short cutscenes, yet the topic of endless discussions, so ask yourself, "Why?"

The only thing I want is if there are romances, have them be adult enough to have the option for sex (the DAO was fabulous in the ability to have romance without sex), and treat that sex with the respect the relationships deserve.  Don't make it about giggling, but about caring, because supposedly, that's why the scenes are there to begin with.

Not sure I have a real point here, but oh well.

The only thing that annoyed me about Witch Hunt was I bought it (after swearing I would buy no more DLC after Feast Day) because it said all the questions would be answered.  I should have realized that was hype.  I think Morrimancers deserved a decent ending; I just wish I had known what it was before buying it, because I would have passed on it.  As it is, all it means is I stuck by never buying any more DA DLC -- not for DAO and not for DA2.  No great loss for BW or for me.

And yes, the rest of what you say I think we were actually agreeing with each other, but stating it differently.  I personally would buy DLC that added to the romances, but I don't expect to ever see it.  If people are willing to buy DLCs for extra banter, DLCs that actually added to the romance, especially if nicely integrated into the game (a few more banters, a few more conversations, another cutscene or two) would be nice -- even better if a mission were included as well.  If they would do it for all characters, not just romance ones, I'm sure that would be popular as well.

But it won't happen.

Going to tell you right now, I don't "bond" with anyone over any lecherous thing such as ogling another person.

And I disagree that we're "sexual beings," if you mean anything more than reproductively.
