How is the combat in Witcher 2? In the first game it was such a turn off that I didn't even make it past a few hours into the game.

Posting here since it's more "neutral" ;)

Personally for me, I really liked it. A lot of people think its stale, and not really immersive, but I thought it was fun. One of the things that made me enjoy it was it was all about timing. If you play on the harder difficulties, any one enemy could kill you if you're not careful. Just my opinion.

Are you a fan of combat rolls?

Because if so, The Witcher 2 is a 5-star recipe for them.

I hated it, but I played with KB&M which even Witcher 2 fanatics agree is problematic. I started my second playthrough with a PC controller and it was definitely better, but I lost interest in Act 1 so I didn't get too much time to form a complete opinion.

A partial problem, made worse if you choose not to use tactics. There's a mod coming out that will rebalance combat and add new animations, stats, etc.

It's very similar to demon/dark souls.

Not really. Dark Souls relies much more on careful timing than TW2. TW2 is about prefight stat buffs and placement. Too many people think success in TW2 lies in twitch response, but it doesn't. The mod I linked will make major changes to the combat though. It adds elements the public doesn't have access to because the author works at CDPR.

You can focus on or mix up skill trees in these three areas: magic, sword, and alchemy. Alchemy is good but you can only take potions out of combat so if you get a cutscene that goes straight into a fight you are SOL.  I did a sword focused build with my first character and the combat was okay but sometimes a bit frustrating (lots and lots of combat rolls as has been mentioned in earlier posts). My second playthrough focused more on the magic skills (I still put some points in the sword and alchemy) and it was great. I had a lot more fun and less frustrations.

Better then the first game but werdly balanced, hard in the beginning, really easy towards the end, except the bad QTE fights.

Demon's/Dark Souls' combat has a much slower pace than TW2's combat. TW2's combat is more comparable to Nier's combat.

It's nothing like the first game. It's a more traditional hack and slash. It's pretty good, not the best, but it's definately not going to stop you from enjoying the game like the first one's combat might have.

Look up some gameplay. It looks kind of stupid to me, the main reason I won't play it. I wish there was a demo for it.

If you're fine with wack-a-moles, you'll probably enjoy it.

If you're a fan of roll'n'stab then it's perfect for you. Really, fighting with swords feels very quirky and unresponsive. At the beginning it's rather difficult. In short, the combat is halfbaked. To be honest, I was more frustrated with the terrible inventory system.

Then again, this is a game where you have to use tactics and not just hack'n'slash.

Before or after Quen was nerfed to the ground? (around the time Enhanced Edition came)

I've only played the Enhanced Edition (since I'm on Xbox), so after I guess. Still seemed pretty overpowered to me.

I found the combat pretty boring especially against tougher mobs. I found the most effective way to do fights against single tough oppenents always wound up being quick attack, quick attack, dodge, repeat. Against mobs of weaker enemies it can be more interesting but its still not as fun as most other action based RPGs and action based MMOs that I've played.
