Half blast nova = twice the I frames juiciness and half the risk if your nova cancel didn't work the first time, you get a second chance for IMMORTALITY.

Inspired by this thread I think I'm gonna hop off defiance and get some more off host nova gaurd practice in

Also... what is this GTFO with the Novaguard? Half Blast Novaguard only goes on direction... forward (and slightly to the side with bosses).

Full blast is very slightly more damaging than half blast. And a lot more dangerous. It is better vs. phantoms, since if I recall correctly, half blast doesn't stagger them.

But way way way more fun.

Also, I use the Acolyte for easy mode, and the Talon or Wraith when I feel like trying.

I might be missing a number? but I didn't think full blast will stagger a phantom either, it seems to come out just under 1000N.

So I take half-blast. Charge to stagger her, nova to throw her through the air, and then you have shield gate still while you shoot her with a claymore.

half blast doesn't get the heavy stagger on phantoms but it gets the little stun preventing them from getting DR and doing anything

Don't worry, that wasn't the purpose. I was just dabbling with Human Vanguard because I actually have the opportunity to play him on host, unlike before.

Charge - always Radius, Power Synergy, Barrier.
Shockwave - skip entirely.
Nova - Force and Damage, Either*, Pierce
Passive - Capacity, Powers, Weapon Damage
Fitness - Full Shields

Best weapon for a novaguard is unquestionably a Talon.  Other pistols, SMGs, or shotguns will work, but the Talon outclasses all of them. Cooldown matters on this character - 185+ is ideal.

Stronghold package, for the unbelievers, is actually the best gear choice, generally - the shield boost is handy and the recharge bonus exceedingly useful for restoring shields when you can't charge (e.g. head-on into Praetorians and Banshees). I terms of other equipment, intermediate novaguards should probably use cyclonics, while more practiced players can switch to power efficiency mods (nothing like being a half-blast novaguard on crack ) or amplifiers.

*Now, in terms of half-blast versus full-blast...

Full-blast works well up to and including Gold difficulty. With the loss of the extra i-frames, you have to charge much more frequently and maintain mobility. The damage output is only negligibly-better than half-blast... the primary reason for full-blast is the increased mobility and frequency of charge, plus the force bonus (as others said, it staggers Phantoms.

Half-blast is essential on Platinum. Anyone who'd like to say otherwise can produce their full-blast plat solo before responding It's been done with half-blast, and the reason is the extra i-frames. Half-blast is also generally a better choice for more experienced novaguards, because you use Nova not just for damage, but to stay alive - a feat not really possible with full-blast (nor ideal, you should be charging again). The advantage of half-blast is that it forgives stagger; get staggered just before or just after your first nova and you can survive to either pull off another, or charge again. Stagger is a death sentence to full-blast novaguards if there are rapid-fire enemies nearby. It is pretty straightforward to survive a phantom staggering you with a half-blast novaguard, but much less likely with full-blast.

For those asking, power amps increase the damage of both charge and nova, but do not affect the force.

Generally speaking, at Bronze and Silver difficulty, new novaguards should begin with full-blast and learn the character mechanics. Once mastered at lower difficulties, Gold is challenging for full-blast and easier with half-blast, so this is often the ideal time to learn half-blast before moving back to full-blast if you prefer it.

In general, I take my novaguard into all difficulties so I pretty much maintain a standard half-blast build.
