First I just wanted to know if people helped your friend that was going to be made tranquil?  It seems to me that if you help him he will later become an abomination or something bad, but I don't want to tell on him either (it is for love afterall).  Oh well, guess I'll just have to slay him later on, lol.  Also, is anyone else having trouble with the DLC?  I have DL'ed and installed like 5 or 6 different items but only the first 3 showed up in my inventory.  One thing to note is that I started the game after the first 3 were done installing but the other items were still DLing.  I quit and resumed after the other items were done DLing and installing but they still aren't in my inventory.  Also, the skill tome DLC doesn't seem to give me the skill point.  I use it, close the inventory screen and the yellow words pop up like the item is being used but no skill point.  Also, it seems that I'm getting more of them.  Last count I have 3 of them.  Also, my Shale DLC didn't want to DL at all last night.  I left it DLing all night last night and it still wans't done.  I have a fast internet connection so I don't think that is the reason.

I tried to play the scenario as if my character thought the friend's plan was reckless, and didn't want to help, but I also didn't want to tell on him. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be an option. I suspect that that choice would lead to your character living out the remainder of their life in the tower, and never becoming a Grey Warden. I ended up talking to the first enchanter and letting out the secret after he started pressing me on it, rather than just up and telling him. His response will be different than you expect.

I can't help you with the DLC as I haven't bothered with any of it.

Are you playing your character as an extension of yourself, or did you think up an elaborate background for them?  If the former, just do what you would do.  If you have a background for them, do what fits in with that.

I helped him, because it fit with the background I came up with for my character:  although she's not a bad person, she's a bit arrogant about her power, and as a result is not well-liked by her fellow mages.  Jowan is one of her few friends, so when he asks her for help, she can't refuse because although she has few friendships, the ones she does have are deep.

So it all depends on what you imagined your character to be like.

I played as it was me. I felt Jowan was annoying and paranoid and that perhaps the rumors were true (that he was/is a Blood Mage). Anyway I did treat everyone else with respect, even Jowan. But I told the First Enchanter about his plan. I must say I rather enjoyed the mage origin a lot. And the game looks beautiful.

The DLC problem is probably do to the service not running correctly in your run command type services.msc and go to your Dragon Age: Origins Updater and make sure it is started. For some reason uninstalling the game and reinstalling causes alot of problems for the updater.

I chose to help him, and I'm curious what happens if you choose the other path. If you help Jowan, you go down into the basement of the tower, fight a series of guardians, and destroy his phylactery. Then he goes all blood mage on you and you realize that he has lied. What happens if you tell on him instead?

I ratted him out in a heartbeat, he seemed shady, especially when I questioned him about blood magic.

Pretty much the same actions, except you are doing so under the auspices of the First Enchanter and Jorwen he gets all upset that you betrayed him.

Does Jorwen's girlfriend get in trouble if you choose to help them out from the start. The reason that the first enchanter has you go with Jorwen into the basement if you tell him what's going on is to prove to the templars that their own people are as corruptible as the mages. She ends up in serious trouble at the end of that path, and I was wondering if things played out differently if you go the other way.

Yes, the first enchanter tells her that she is going to prison for helping a blood mage, but after Jorwen escapes it's unclear whether they follow through.

It seems like some of us have betrayed Jorwen and some haven't. I can't wait to see whether this leads to different outcomes the next time we meet him.

I kind of got the impression that the Templars might use Lily to help track down Jowan since his phylactery was destroyed. I could see them using her as bait. I could have totally misread that, though.

*minor spoilers*

I helped Jowan escape, and then I ran into him at Redcliffe, did anyone else side with the circle, and if so, did you find Jowan or not?

I helped Jowan out, reluctantly, because I didn't trust him. My character would like nothing more than to break free of the circle though, so she could sympathize with his plight. It honestly never even occurred to me I could rat him out. Probably because it's the last thing she would do in that situation.

My character stumbled into the First Enchanter after obtaining the rod, at which point he decided to play both sides for information. He chose to let Jowan go after admitting that the ploy was revealed and the Templar were coming. We got caught, Jowan goes crazy and escapes believing that I had good intentions all along, his lover was let off the hook and sent away, and I was let off the hook from the Templars by the First Enchanter, as I was working under his orders.

Everyone got played by everyone, it was glorious.

I just started a new game last night w/ a human mage. (Still haven't finished by noble fighter - working thru it sloooowly...) I know this is an old thread, but this origin story cracked me up.

A couple things sort of surprised me w/ this origin story. Anyway, I decide to rat out Jowan. First off was the First Enchanter's reaction to all of it... let's try to stick it to the Templar's cause they love doing the same to us. Not the read I got from him or the head templar (Gregoir or something like that, wasn't it?) when I was doing the mage circle quest w/ my noble fighter.

Then there is going downstairs. I'm thinkin' we'll stumble through a couple puzzles, find some kind of demon or spider infestation to throw in some early fighting and move on. Nooo... we get sentinels. Now unless I missed something, aren't they human guards? (I thought when I looked at my Character "Heroics" page, it listed my kills as humans.) So the First Enchanter is having me kill soldiers just so we can get Lily caught in the act as well... one for one - templar for a mage.

Then when we get out, Jowan reveals he is a blood mage and she wigs out. Kill numerous soldiers... ok. Sleep w/ a blood mage... not ok. Looking forward to Redcliff now.

I told him I needed to think about it first, and after talking to the First Enchanter, told him I didn't think it was right what Gregoir was going to do/had nothing more to say about it and went to help Jowan (since he was supposed to be my friend and all). Then I acted all shocked and surprised when he turned out to really be a Blood Mage.

I was trying to roleplay that quest as I would in real life - that is, find a way to stay the hells out of that mess. But it's a trap, story-wise. The game forces Jowan to reveal stuff to you, even if you're unfriendly, then Irving (that ****!) forces you to help just so he can get Lilly sent to some mediaeval prison!!!!???

I never cared that he was a Blood Mage. Still don't.

He wanted his freedom. He deserves to have that.
