You're a fool if you think you must disagree with the Catalyst because of who he is. All that does is give him power over you.

A lot of people thought it was a passive agressive jab, and it is hard to take it any other way. But if you write an option that is clearly way better than the others, i guess you have to make it the one that fails.

You mustn't disagree with him, but the Catalyst never motivates why you should throw aside all doubt and take his words at face value.

He is according to himself, ALL the reapers. That doesn't exactly give me reason to trust him. You know, with the reapers being all deceptive and stuff.David7204 wrote...

The Catalyst is a calculated construct that changed its conclusion with the introduction of the Crucible variables. You don't have to pick Control or Destroy believing the Catalyst's assertions. In fact, you could very well argue that it would be foolish to pick those options if you do believe in the inevitable nature of the Creator vs Created problem. The only motivation you need is wanting to stop the harvest.

The Catalyst existed long before the first Reaper. It embodies the collective intelligence of the Reapers, but it is in fact a separate entity.

Short answer? Yes. Why not EDI explaining the functions? Why not Vendetta, as he was supposed to "interface with the catalyst" anyway?HiddenInWar wrote...

A bit. It would take some of the "wtf why that shape" bit out.

There's nothing the Catalyst stands to gain by lying.
I've never gotten this logic. The Catalyst stands to gain everything. Reapers lie. Whenever they're not busy turning their victims into grey goo or huskifying them, they lie and manipulate and scheme. For Shepard to believe a word the Reaper Overlord tells her is to go against everything she knows about Reapers.

A lot of people talked about the Virmire survivor. I mean, they already have 3 VAs do work, this wouldn't actually been cheaper.HiddenInWar wrote...

I've always wondered about that, and wonder about it still. People hate the Catalyst, gleefully fantasize about killing him, and yet simultaneously say they want him to be trustworthy and sympathetic by taking the form of a dead squadmate or something. It's a contradiction I've yet to have gotten to the core of.
They simultaneously want him to be right and demand that he be wrong.

If Catalyst is lying then we are already dead - we bet everything on building the Crucible in time to defeat the Reapers and is didn't manage to figure out how to use it in time; thus, we might just as well assume that he is telling the truthI've never gotten this logic
