I'm just going to say it in a word. Well, ok, two words. It sucks.
I'm sure there will be defenders (probably those who've invested $$$), but I'm sure others will agree with me.
1-Characters are all pre-made, like you bought them from eBay.
2-"Free" is an illusion used to draw people in.
3-Foundry is strangled by the company in the name of balance for the game proper. Gone are reboots of things like Penultima or the ever-scandelous A Dance with Rogues.
Oh, they capitalize on the addiction element, requiring a daily log-in for currency accumulation, for one. And the character aesthetics are fun, offering another illusion re you being able to design your own toon. But the meat of the toons are created by someone else. Even the so-called dice roll for stat distribution is fixed to <20 combinations. You can write them down and then make your choice since it's not really random.
I had such high hopes, but they were dashed to pieces like a rotten cantaloupe on a patch of dirty concrete.
Where's the REAL Neverwinter Nights 3?

The F2P one?
I found the combat to be very engaging and overall, very fun. The story is laughable and well, it's F2P, I'm not expecting much to begin with.

I'm probably still going to give it a shot. I'm not too interested in loot or XP balance. If Foundry lets me tell some interesting stories, I'll be satisfied.

Combat is nice and refreshingcompared to other MMO's as you can actually dodge an attack by dodging the attack. Tanking also is quite different and I do like it more as you can side step an attack and still counter to keep agro.
The professions are really crippled though as you need to invest several hours to get things done ( 6 and sometimes 18 hours to craft one item)
The Foundry though allows users to create there own quests and lore which can be good or bad as User content is unpredictable in terms of quality.
Something you can play occasionally but not something I can see myself investing a lot of time in.

I've tried it, its quite clunky and from what I understand the economy is being destroyed by exploits.

The economy was destroyed, yes. Folks figured out how to use -$$$ values on the auction house to get mega returns of $$$ they didn't have. Prices skyrocketed due to surplus. Companions were purchased and distributed in hoards. It's why they shut it down. Even if they fix the exploit, there's now a base of people with large pools of $$$ to contrast the incoming scroungers.
I'm surprised at the positive returns. Granted, a fellow DDO player today stated it was because he wanted the option to faceroll a melee (rogue) and not think about his toon that he was still playing.
