Definitely Lia! She had a nice little arc, joining the guard and all. Love Lia!

Apart from her, though, I can't really think of anyone who stood out for me. As much as people love Shianni, I think I would be annoyed if she showed up. I feel like her story is over. And as much as I love the Dalish, if one shows up, I would like him to not be from Merrill's clan. Nothing against them, just want something new.

I was about to say that I'm not into elves, then I remembered who I romanced in DA:O and DA2 - Zevran and Fenris. It's more that I couldn't stand Anders, and always planned to romance Alistair too but never got around to a 2nd playthrough.

But back on topic - much as I liked Shianni as a character (Warden made her Bann of the Alienage), I'd rather see new characters as companions or love interests.

Is there any word of the redesigning the elves as they need it badly, when I encountered them I found them very hard to take seriously in DA2.

I like some of the ones mentioned, Shianni, the kid Hawk saved, and Athenril, but I'm not sure how much time has past so how old the first two would be, a wise companion to give advice or just try to boss my character around, I can see Shianni doing that easily. New ones would be fine too.

I could see her trying to find the remaining people of the alienage that were shipped off by the Tevinter mages.  We know they weren't all there; only one of Cyrion and Valendrian shows up. Presumably, as a non-CE Warden Cyrion does still exist (Soris is still in "Cyrion's House", and Cyrion is never there for a non-CE Warden).  Perhaps I'm being idealistic, but it seems like a good quest hook to me. It doesn't really get anywhere near Orlais, though...
