I will check that when I get home.

I don't need to be drunk or anything like that, do I?

Aw, nuts.
Even if I was drinking, it wouldn't be on a Wednesday.

I'll just pretend then.

Thirty-One

As in, the player ranked #31 in the world for CP on PC. My Human Cryo Soldier was beating their Slayer on White Cerberus Gold, but then ME3 froze around wave 8. I'll get you next time, Gadget.

Pug Rage

I was trying to decide what character I felt like taking pugging when only1biggs sent me a message asking if I had a slot. So I grabbed the Paladin and set up a lobby. Biggs joined as TSent and then I opened the other 2 slots to pugs, we got a DrellGuard and started as a trio. Reactor Hazard, Cerberus. At the end of Wave 3 we were joined by a Human Sentinel and then the real fun started. At the beginning of W4, a bunch of Dragoons and Phantoms ran into the reactor and so did the two pugs. So I hit the button, cooking them all. Over the air from the HSent came an angry "Whoever hit the button, you're a ****** idiot!" I lol'ed while reviving them both. Then everyone was downed except Biggs at the end of W5, the HSent was shouting, "Use a ****** missile, dude!" I'm sitting thinking, "Dude, Biggs *is* a missile!"

Let's just say that from then on, the reactor button was pressed a lot, with the same HSent apparently unable to understand the warning about vacating the reactor, but certainly able to shout about it rather a lot. We all died after finishing the W10 objective, in the case of Biggs and myself I think it was because we were laughing too hard to shoot straight.

Thank you, anonymous pug, you made a dull day very amusing right there.

Forty-Six

Played with the person globally ranked at number forty-six. A lot of top people playing lately it seems like. Number forty-six tonight, Number thirty-one the other night.

Edit: I wonder if MF Doom and Kabuto have ever thought of doing a collab?

Edit 2: Never mind, I guess Kabuto doesn't think much of MF Doom's beats.

Laugh-fest

Sorry, long smoke-addled wall of text incoming.

I had 4 genuinely hilarious games in a row with a couple of random guys on xbox last night.  This was in itself quite remarkable as I've never managed more than 3 games continuously on PS3 without someone getting stuck on wfop.  I'm finding switching back and forward between consoles (and manifests) challenging, but in an enjoyable way.

My connection was pretty dire for some reason, so after 2 abortive gold attempts I just decided to slum it on silver, where I landed halfway through wave 1 on Ghost Hazard facing the Geth.  The game wasn't particularly noteworthy, but the 2 guys chatting were pretty funny so I didn't mind the fact that I seemed to be the one doing most of the objectives.  I think I earned some respect with multiple revives, and when we got back to the lobby I could see that they probably didn't have much experience.  I decided to stick around and we got Collectors on Hydra.  One of the guys was playing a Salarian Engineer and using a Venom he'd just unlocked, which for the first couple of waves proved pretty funny, but he did get the hang of it.  My Justicar's 'hair-dryer' (a Disciple 1) provided the subject matter for a conversation about Asaris that would not be repeatable on a family-friendly forum.

Back in the lobby after making extraction they discussed switching up to gold, as by this stage I was regarded as a loyal, useful teammate. (I think!) I was in the process of unlocking a Lancer, so switched to a Turian Sentinel. They actually decided they were having enough fun on silver (as was I, tbh) so I took off my equipment and off we went.  Reactor Hazard / Cerberus.  To use an almost appropriate line from Carry On Screaming - "Frying Tonight!!!" was the order of the day.  It's bliss when people share a sense of humour, and usually even funnier when there is one present who doesn't.  Only 2 of us extracted, but the game will remain in my memory for the line, "I love you Grunt Kitterhand!" after I resisted the temptation to 'push the button' before reviving one of them.

Last up we got Jade / Reapers (making a clean sweep for U/U settings), which was going as smooth as silk until wave 7, when a 4th member with a bit of a sense of humour bypass quit in a huff.  I wasn't using a mic, but we were all laughing so hard our gameplay kinda suffered.  They just kept dying, and I kept reviving them, and then I would die and they would make a big deal about reviving me - "Don't worry Grunt, I'LL SAVE YOU!!!" kind of thing.  Unfortunately on both occasions it happened they were about a second too late so I had to gel anyway.  The game was just falling apart, but we made it to wave 10, thanks in part to a 'courtesy missile' from me on the last banshee.  Then we got targets and I took out the first 2 banshees with missiles, then a marauder.  They both went down around that time, and instead of just going after the last marauder I couldn't help myself and tried to revive them both.  I failed, in both cases, and got synced by a brute for my trouble.  A glorious failure though.  I haven't enjoyed a succession of games as much in ages.

As a philosophical aside, I'm older than their combined ages, on the other side of the world.  They were 21, with one of them drunkenly and proudly only a week away from his 22nd birthday.  And they were feckin hilarious.  I may still be a bit shy about plugging a mic in, but I guess it's good to know I'm not completely over the hill just yet. If you had told me in 1993 that my future self would have such fun I would probably have thought you were on a particularly strong sativa buzz.  I didn't even have an email address back then.  I wonder who'll look after my body when I'm fully plugged into the Matrix 21 years from now?!

In the meantime, anyone who senses a kindred spirit here, who doesn't give a bollocks about score and just enjoys playing themed or lore-friendly matches, feel free to add me on either console.  I have to confess I haven't quite got the hang of how the party thing actually works on xbox yet.  Like I said, I'm old.

Peace out  B)

Dis-connected

Just as well, I was having a shocker.  Hydra, Cerberus (AARGHH!), Gold.

Wave 7 disconnect. They, (and me) weren't doing that good anyway. So I doubt they made it.

That was the nail in the coffin, so to speak, because I called it quits after that.
