Jumped into a Gold game with my Geth Winfiltrator. It was two Juggys and an AIU, mission got scrubbed. But it matters not, my night was made and my stomach hurt of laughter of watching two Juggys put a hex shield in front of some Possessed Praetorians while heavy meleeing them. Then they got stunlocked to death and me and the AIU had to clean up their mess. Too bad it was a hack objective in the middle of Rio, we made it to round 10 with these halfwits as our team members.

 

At least now I know why the Puggernaut is a laughing stock.

Got some old friends from Blue Suns, a turian and a batarian, to raid some Cerberus backwater facility called Glacier. Easy job, they said. There'd be platinum, they said. Even got an asari sniper to sign up, quite a lovely babe, especially when she puts that rifle in your face.

Never expected the goddamn Reapers to show up. And then geth. Geth, Shepard! Burned a lot of those bastards (don't I love that Disruptor ammo), but then it all went downhill. Extracted some valuable info while surrounded from all sides, but then my guys started to die one by one. The asari got impaled by one of those freaking Banshees, the batarian went down fighting off two Phantoms - he's got the last laugh though, when his ballistic blades exploded and killed them both. Don't even know what they did to the turian. I escaped... barely.

I came in fourth in a PuG. I immediately switched to my Vorcha Sentinel for the next game.

 

 

Except the part that I had 2 Thermal Clips left over at the end of the game. My score-hoorin' is a bit out of practice!

 

Actually, I was genuinely impressed that a Juggy top-scored both games. The first one, she joined on Wave 3 and top-scored anyway.

Conversely, my last pug included another quarian (male infiltrator) and we extracted from giant gold in like 22 mins (which on PS3 is pretty good for a Pug due to endless load times).

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about this part of the story: Back in the game the Juggy joined, there was an empty slot because I kicked someone for the first time in probably 2 or 3 years.

 

I'm a patient guy, and we all waited for our fourth to ready up for about 3 minutes. He put on no equipment, did not change weapons, characters, or take any other actions the whole time. I was the other un-readied person, and I concluded that he was afk and started the timer, figuring he'd drop once the game started.

 

He proceeded to spend two minutes resetting the timer, while never putting on any equipment or anything else. I figured he was trolling us, but even if not, it reached a point where he was clearly being douchey. I ran into a lobby of his about an hour later and immediately bailed.

Back on topic, my last few pugs were filled with juggernauts and one guy who decided to leech. One of the jugs were pretty good and even managed to tank quite well though I could tell he was somewhat new to plat. He was a bit hesitant on nuking when needed. The leech on the other hand was treated to Ravager shepherding and an intense bout of Metal Geth Solid. Good stuff.

Seriously, I'm loving the "Zaeed build" (Avenger/Disruptor Ammo/no Adrenaline Rusn) on Human Soldier. Greatly blends with almost any team on Platinum and allows for high scores. Just got a first place, which I don't normally get.

Last pug of the night for me with my new Cabal, rolled Cerberus on Goddess in a team with a Jugg, TSol and Kroguard. Everybody played their part on objective waves, including a couple of tricky devices on wave 6. Wave 7 was..... costly in terms of team gels - I think we all went down at one point. Targets on wave 10 was greeted with the rapid whistles of 4 Cobras, and we finished the match with a 10k spread from top to bottom of the scoreboard.  The only slightly sad note is that I was last, having been synced out of nowhere right at the start of the extraction wave. I don't care about the score, but it was one of those games where full extraction would have felt right.

 

As for the Cabal, I still find Poison Strike to be a bit of a waste of points for non-hosting players, but because there's one in it by default I took it up to 4 ranks. I don't have an Omniblade yet anyway, so going for a full melee spec would be out of the question even if I wasn't determined to try different approaches on my alt a/c. So instead of a Raider X with Smart Choke and Omniblade, I went with a Lancer II, which ran out of ammo maybe twice in the whole game, and I did continue to use her melee quite regularly, as its lock-on ability is a thing of beauty for someone who, as an off-host Krogan, tends to feel like he's in a Benny Hill sketch when there are Nemeses around. I still prefer my no-PS Melee build, but again must stress that's because I rarely host.

Gold/Glacier/Collectors

Me as a puny human engineer with that good old carnifex, a Jugg with something, an asari adept with locust or tempest, and a GI with Black Widow.

 

Everybody is doing well and the game runs smoothly except for a few moments where a little bit of teamwork is needed :

Jugg goes down surrounded by two scions and some mooks, asari and I go to help immediately, GI doesn't care and keep sniping.

 

Scions rain fire on us and mooks still hurt pretty bad (damn possessed captain collectors), asari goes down, swarm explodes, I go down as well.

I use a gel on the spot because it looks like the GI isn't going to help.

Jugg is still surrounded by two scions and there's no way they're gonna let me do my thing so I come back for my sweet Liara.

I take cover, revive her, look for that GI aaaaaand.....yep.... still not coming to help. 

Jugg bleeds out , we escape the deadly hallway and wrap it up.

 

This happened on wave 6 right after we finished with devices and guess which layer didn't help with that ? Yup.

Jugg played is part luring and stopping the ennemies, Liara and I relayed each other on the devices, meanwhile, the GI just stayed in

the same spot the whole wave, close to the ammo box, not giving a damn about us or the objective.

 

He did some revives later when people died right next to him (I also scolded him for poor teamwork) but I don't know...

I think that you don't necessarily need the whole team to do devices, but it's common sense to at least take a couple of

seconds to check if you might be needed somewhere.

He didn't even do that, and when we obviously needed help, he didn't move a muscle (sure, geth don't have muscles, but still...)

He was probably thinking he might as well let us die and finish the wave on his own.

I'm just taking a wild guess here but I think he was in a good spot, racking up points and that was more important to him than his teammates dying.

I'm pretty sure that he would have come our way if ennemies stopped appearing somewhere he could snipe them and he had to move.

And it's not like he gave up on us because we were getting killed over and over again, those were the first three deaths of the game.

 

It's a shame really, especially since as the only infiltrator, even if he probably put points in damage for his TC, it's something

that can also be put to good use for your teammates.

 

To top it all off, he had the OPERATIVE banner !

Maybe it's just me but I've always considered it as the embodiment of teamwork.

So when I see someone proudly wearing this title I'm expecting him to be really good at cooperation or at least trying to and having that kind of mindset.

People wearing this banner shoud not be allowed to take it lightly.

Biower, just make a --I WANT THAT TOP SCORE  MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE-- and stop raising my expectations.

I'm not saying this is necessarily the case here...but sometimes, as an infiltrator, when someone dies in a bad position, my preference is to try and clear the enemies rather than go for a risky revive.  The added damage from TC gives infiltrators a distinct bonus in clearing enemies from around a downed team mate and holding off other enemies until a revive can be made.

 

I've been in a few situations where I probably looked like a complete scorewhore, but I was actually holding off a significant portion of the enemy spawn in order to keep that person alive long enough for someone (whether it's me or another team mate) to revive.

Was the nametag consisting only of numbers? If so, I have met the same player today. Reapers/Dagger/Gold, he camped the tower the whole match. We got devices on wave 10, and not only he didn't help with any of them, he never stopped killing things, even if they were on the other side of the map and no threat to anyone. He was the only infiltrator on the team. We had a smashdept who dropped a lot trying to close in on enemies (good player though!), and the GI never went to revive him, not even when he dropped in the gallery leading to the tower. And it wasn't a case of the smashdept going down in a really nasty spot either, I mostly went in for revives with a no-fitness GE and got the job done.

That stuff just irks me; scoremonger to your heart content, but at least do the damn objectives and help people up

I've developped a good eye to see how teammates behave in a game, in this case I really believe  it wasn't. 

He wasn't clearing the ennemies near us, whatever kills he made didn't help us, and Iam  fairly confident in my ability to

make the distinction.

 

During wave 6, I quickly realized one player wasn't helping and that's when I started observing his behaviour.

He never stopped one second to check where devices popped up or if anyone needed help.

If you want to use your skills in the way you described you still have to take a look at where the devices pop up and the ennemies so you can

ascertain what should be your target.

 

4 devices means 4 locations in this case, we didn't need help for 1 device. 

For another, he could have stayed where he was but if he was trying to help he wasn't aiming at the right spot, 

he was aiming at a particular spot because geth scan, high velocity barel and window pane provided easy kills.

But once again if he meant to help he shouldn't have been targeting this spot.

For the two others, that fact he stayed (he did the whole wave) where he was, clearly meant getting kills was more important to him.

 

Well I could gon on detailing all I've picked up upon but let's leave it at that :

I know sometimes other players behaviours can be misunderstood, that's why I try to avoid making conclusions on the spot

and try to pay attention to the players behavior more thoroughly.

I could be wrong and maybe it was part of some sort of elaborate plan but I honestly doubt it.

This weekend has so much historical hnnnnnnng going on I'm doubtful I'll be playing much at all.

I'll try, I will, but so much patriotic goodness is happening here this weekend I'll be nerding out on that.
