I played the entire trilogy with Garrus, Tali, and Liara, except when that wasn't possible. If they took way every other party member, I wouldn't have noticed a lack.
In ME 2' Zaeed and Grunt played filler until Tali showed up.
Which characters did you use the least in your party during the games?

It depends on which class my Shepard is. If I'm playing as a Soldier, I never use Ashley, Zaeed, Grunt, or James.

ME1: Liara and Tali
I tend to run a mix of Kaidan, Ashley [ dispit her being my lest fave] Wrex and Garrus
I don’t take Tali because she is more useful on the Ship and Liara because…well, I hate her more than Ashley.
ME2: Jacob, Mordin, Legion, Tali, Samara [ excluding the SM and Loyaty Missions]
I tend to use Jack, Garrus, Thane, Grunt and Miranda in ME2
Mordin and Tali again I feel are more useful on the ship
Jacob,…well as I play FemShep 98% of the time, I advoid him like the plague [ no forced rape voice here]
Legion : I like the guy but a, he comes in too late into the game, b I already have two snipers on the team
Samara: I tend to go Renegade in ME2 and give her black and white unshifting faith in the code I would rather her not killing me after the Suicide mission dispite her swearing to the code.
ME3: Liara, Tali and Javick.
Like in ME1 I use Kaidan, Garrus, Vega and Edi
Liara: Same reason as ME1
Tali: Again, Same reason as ME1/2 and she also comes in to late in ME3
Javick : hmm I use him more than Liara and Tali, but I prefer to use the others more.

ME1: Ashley, Kaidan, Tali, Garrus - only reason I took any of the last 3 along was for hacking/decrypting until I had the skill level myself, or when I needed it on a planet.
ME2: Tali, Garrus, Jacob, Jack, Zaeed, Samara, Thane, Grunt, Mordin - I pretty much use Miranda, Kasumi and then Legion at the end exclusively when I wasn't forced to take someone (loyalty missions).
ME3: Kaidan/Ashley, EDI, James, Tali, Garrus (if those 2 are even there).
I tend towards biotic characters, and in ME1, Lift is so damn OP I have to take at least one person with it - it's makes the endgame Citadel and Saren/Sovereign fights laughable as you can lift EVERYTHING in ME1.

Also, is everybody just forgetting about Legion, or did most of the BSN actually get their crew killed?
Or they saved a number of side-missions until after the Suicide Mission so they could use him.
I know I did on one playthrough.

ME1: Kaidan>Garrus>Wrex>Liara>Tali>Ashley.
Why: I almost always brought Kaidan and Garrus; they work perfectly together with my soldiershep: Kaidan can unlock things, fix the Mako, and has crowd control; Garrus can counter biotics/tech and has heavy firepower; and my soldiershep just kills everything that isn't dead yet. Wrex is, overall, a really awesome squadmate, but I rarely used him; Liara just felt like she was being forced on me; Tali was a mediocre version of Kaidan; Ashley's personality made me hate bringing her on missions, seeing as I am very open-minded and I don't let the past, like her family drama, have so much effect on my choices.
ME2: Miranda>Mordin>Thane>Garrus>Tali>Samara>Jack>Kasumi>Jacob>Zaed>Legion (you get him so late, and I can't mod so well on ecksbawks, other than the S/S ME:1 mod/Gibbed).
Why: Miranda is awesome, period; her squad command>everything. Mordin takes care of the armored enemies with Incinerate. I only used the others when I was just playing purely for RPG purposes, but I loved talking to them ALL.
ME3: Kaidan>Liara>Garrus>Tali>EDI>James>Javik>Ashley (She is always dead, period.)
Why: Kaidan is my LI and he is the Miranda of ME3; Liara works well with anybody and works even better combined with Kaidan; Garrus is a bro, but controlling the enemies is a lot better than weapon damage; I liked Tali a lot and she was just someone nice to talk to overall, but not so great is combat; EDI-bot..ugh...yeah...; James was trying too hard to be Mexican and didn't have good powers for bursting; Javik...uhh...not so attached to his characterization.

ME2: Mordin, Miranda, Garrus, Jacob, and Thane
ME3: Liara, James, Ashley, and Garrus.
I don't find the game to be that hard regardless of difficulties, so I just usually bring the people I like best.

ME1, Garrus. Firstly because his ME1 personality hadn't really found its niche and I didn't find him that interesting. Secondly, because sparing Ash he's the least useful squadmate in terms of gameplay.
ME2: Zaeed. Mainly because his power compliment wasn't very useful since ME2 was pretty much all about stripping shields, armour etc. I also admit I never gelled with his character in ME2 much, but that was primarily because sparing his LM (which was great), you never properly talk to him since he's a DLC character.
ME3: EDI. I think EDI is a great character, but since she fills the role of "voice with an internet connection" regardless of whether she's in the team or not, I saw little point in bringing her along on missions since she's omnipresent anyway.

Not sure, actually, since I kinda go out of my way to get every squadmate equal time. Also rotated squadmates out of relevance, i.e. Liara & Javik on Thessia, Garrus on Citadel, Tali/EDI on Rannoch. Only squadmate I didn't care for was Jacob.

In ME 2 it is hard not to leave someone out because the squad is so damn large that on average everyone is limited to just a few missions if even that. In ME 1 I use everybody though I probably use Liara a little less than everybody else outside of Noveria.
In ME 3 I probably use EDI less than everybody else. Nothing against EDI but I just prefer the other squadmates.

I had Kaidan and Garrus in most parties in ME1 and 3.
In 2 it was Liara and Garrus.
But I did bring along Javik a few times. And James. If i thought I need a straight up meat-shield it was James. A few heavy cerbrus fights I brought james along. Get behind him and use my sniper with ease. Javik I brought to the in the temple quest. I didn't know it the time, but he had some great scenes in that place. I also liked Jack and Tali but I lost them both in the 2nd game. Man that broke my heart.
But I liked them all really. Wrex I lost in ME1. Grunt was great too though. And Mordin was a lot of fun just to talk too.

Hmm
ME1
Liara: Most boring character ever. All the others where rotated fairly evenly. No Kaidan after virmire though, but I liked both him & Ash (Though Ash more).
ME2
Thane...Idk just not very interesting and his ammo power and other powers were weak or there was squadmates with better ones.
Jacob...less and less, just not very good powers, swapped him out for Grunt pretty much.
ME3
Liara - only used until I could swap her out and then never looked back.
James - Really uninteresting character in general, and the fact that I hadn't seen him before just made him an outsider from start. But mostly I didn't like the character much. Why couldn't we just have had Grunt back or Wrex? Only one Biotic squad member is pretty crappy tbh.

ME1 =
Wrex and Tali (I was almost constantly using Kaidan and Garrus because they complemented my Shep perfectly)
ME2 =
Jack - I loathed her attitude and with plenty of other biotics to choose from, she got the boot.
Kasumi - even though she was fun and really cool, I didn't have much use for her abilities.
ME3 =
EDI - she's too fragile and I found her abilities rather useless
Javik - attitude up the wazoo, special power not that effective.

ME2: Jack, Samara and Legion (only because he appears so late).

Everyone else I use pretty evenly, other than Garrus who is probably my most used squadmate.

Liara (when I wasn't forced to use her), Kaiden (dead), James, EDI, Jacob.
My main team is Garrus and Tali, with Ash/Samara/Grunt/Kasumi/Javik as temporary replacements. Don't really care about the others.
