So I started play the BG series lately, bg 2 firstb ut I stopped and decided it would be smarter to play bg1 instead. Not because I couldn't get the mecanics (a few forum browsing and web searching help me get that.), but simply to get the story.

On to the point of my post which is kind of being made out of boredom. Excatly how screwed am I right now; I have to check the options but I'm pretty sure I'm playing core rules, and my main is a wild mage. If anyone on these forums remember....I only play spellcasters! I already know how the sorcerer is better then mages (it was my first character choice in bg2), and kits (conjuror/illusion) are pretty much the best mage kit with wild mage being arguably better.  From what I can tell the only way to improve the chances of not commiting teammate genocide is really the improved shield since no post I have read really speaks on the regular so my question is....

How screwed am I, my current team is
Dorn- DPS
Viconia the sexy- tank...literally I have her at either 0 or -5 (one or the other because Dorn is the other) Ac and while I am only still in chapter two, she rarely gets hit and the magic resist is godly.
Kivan- until I get someone better, I might change him out of mincs
Neera- That is right, I'm running 2 wild mages; **** erdwin!
Imeon- Sentimental reasons X (RP)
ME- Mr goodie two-shoes-insane magic run pants.

So how screwed am I running 2 wild mages? Also this is bgee. and alsoI read Neera could be romanced. is this true?

Why run two wild mages? Outside the fact I am Insane? Because, I wanted to see what type of impact running into Neera would have. I liked to see how far games to wor with and around ones character. so I was hoping there would be more impact on with meeting Neera and the Red wizards and so on. After that, I thought it would be twice the fun!

Keep in mind you wouldn't even HAVE To cast spells, e.g, can use ranged weapons and wands. Note that wands can also be recharged by selling to vendor/buy back. Spamming fireball via fireball wand is more than enough contribution for most encounters, you wouldn't even need to cast spells in that context.

This way, once you chaos shield in BG 2, you can then let 'er rip. But casting spells on one self is certainly dangerous, as petrify is one of the wild surges - sunfire is rather dangerous one too, your party members may not like that...

Nevertheless, having said that, I know of a run where the wild mage had party and did cast spells and still beat the game no-reload style, so it's certainly possible.

Balance always helps in this game, particularly in BG1 where muscle is more important than magic. If Viconia is your only "tank", regardless of her armor class you have a big problem. What is her current Thaco? You need someone, like Minsc - or any paladin who might wander by - who can do some melee damage. But discarding Kivan for him is not the best idea, since ranged damage is far more important in BG1 than in BG2. In the end I'm sure you'll succeed with 2 wild mages, but constant reloading is part of the price of an "all or nothing" strategy.
