So it possibly seems the Xbox One's E3 appearance is it's only chance to impress?
No, they just blew it badly. E3 won't matter.
The release event was their chance to engage and hype potential customers, Gamers, and they just spent ~45 minutes talking about TV and showed a couple of pre-rendered cutscenes (Foraza, Quantum). They basically telegraphed to Gamers that their focus is not on gaming.
Over the course of the next 24 hours, they're going to get ripped to shreds, and public support is going to shift hard to Sony. Between now and E3, XboxO is going to get labeled as a TV box and their reveal event torn to shreds. The focus on a gimmick, Kinect, didn't help matters much either. Kinect isn't a Gamers feature, it's a Gadget.
They'll walk in to E3, and show off mostly the same stuff as everyone else, except for a Halo exclusive and *maybe* a Kinect-Fable game. Since most of what they show people can get on another system, people won't care unless you're hugely into Halo.
