It isn't that hard to figure out that MS was going for a "simple and contemporary" design when making X1 and the kinect, not that that's bad.
Seems more like an attempt to hide the fact that you own a gaming console so people who are embarassed can hide it with their other hardware.

It's their attempt of trying to kill the used gaming market, they don't profit by letting it exist and thus try to end it or tip it in their favor.
