"On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play," a Microsoft representative told Wired today. This has been styled a "pre-owned block", but OXM's Jon Hicks (who's currently in Redmond, checking out the new console) argues otherwise - when you sell the game on Microsoft will deactivate your install, meaning the next purchaser won't have to pay the second-user fee. You won't, however, be able to share a single copy of a game with your friends.

From that, apparently you can deactivate games if you want to sell em', and the next person who owns the game (whether or not you charged them) doesn't have to pay a fee.

Sounds like something that'd be cracked early if there's no mandatory online.

That's just horrible, I'd rather share the last episode of Jersey Shore.

The share button only shares facebook status updates.

And thankfully, those on X1 can reap the rewards of Blu-Ray as well this go around.

Sounds like you wanted to buy a ps4 in the first place and felt the need to validate your opinion on the BSN. Don't worry soon you'll have a share button for that on your ps4! And if the games too hard you can just let your online friends play it for you!

I know right? The nerve of some companies to center their social aspects around VIDEO GAMES on a VIDEO GAME console.

Well Sony's stock went up a few points after this reveal. That's not sarcasm, I'd link it but I'm on a phone. There are several factors that probably influenced the raise, but I think given the timing I can't help but feel it's related.

Posted this in another thread, but relevant here as well.

This is interesting:

So I can't bring a game over to a friends house to play with them there?

Well that's ungodly stupid.

I wouldn't say that, given the options; I would assume the options such as storing your profile on a USB drive (if he has an offline One), or downloading it from Cloud (assuming he has it connected)-- would allow you to play together. At the restriction of having you logged in, of course.

But the people who generally let friends borrow their copies are screwed over. Unless they deactivate the game on their own profile before they lend it to a friend.

That film fits in well with the TV console.

Hah, I don't know if that'll happen, but it did cross my mind during the showing.

I find it curious how they have a 500GB hard drive and mandatory installs. That's not a ton of space?

This has been styled a "pre-owned block", but OXM's Jon Hicks (who's currently in Redmond, checking out the new console) argues otherwise - when you sell the game on Microsoft will deactivate your install via unspecified methods, meaning the next purchaser won't have to pay the second-user fee. Huh.  That's ... peculiar. I'm interested in these "unspecified methods".

It looks like my Comcast cable box combined with one of my old VCR's that I don't use anymore. Who approved this design?

It actually makes sesne. Have you seen the price for the proprietary hard drives? Almost $200 for 120GB. People will eventually run out of space and Microsoft will offer more space at the (huge) expense of your wallet.

It's not alot of space at all if you have to install games. Oh this next gen is going to burn fast.

Are consoles still not offering Terrabyte hard drives? I know you can use 3rd party hard drives on the WiiU can you do it with the ps4 and x1 too?

Yeah I'm curious, are the hard-drives detachable for both consoles?

Considering how much 250gb sold for this gen, maybe they'll sell 1TB HDs for 200$.
