Doesn't really come as a surprise:

Xbox One Live TV Only Available in the U.S. at Launch

Goddamn. Every new article that comes out is nothing but bad news.

Also:

The service will not be supported out of the box; Xbox One Live TV will require a separate supported receiver device with HDMI output to work.

Even my friend is following the "sheep status" and buying the console regardless. He needs to get pedigreed.

Angry Joe brought up a good point:

If a friend wants to borrow his game, that friend has to pay a fee on their X1 before they even know it's something they want to buy. That's awful.

Well, nowadays you have reviews and gameplay videos so it's not that big an issue.

Yeah, this piece of equipment is really going to bork how people have handled their gaming routine up until now.

So it's always listening, and you have to be connected to the internet every day. 20 bucks on some random Microsoft employee selling people's information.

You're gonna have to unplug that console after every use if you don't want it watching you.

A friend can play a game I bought because its my property. Obtained through legal purchase. Contract law.

Technically when you buy a game you're only buying a license to play it, which can be taken away from you at any time for any reason.

If I remember correctly, that is.

I have to disagree there is nothing like hands on gameplay, often many games that I have come to love I first rented, DAO and Mass Effect are perfect examples.

Have any conspiracy theory crazy types started shouting about this? This could be the greatest intelligence gathering system invented by the CIA since Facebook.

Pretty much. This thing is a disaster beyond imagining. I thought it would be bad, but I could never have imagined it would be this bad.

I know Limbo isn't exclusive, but I hope Mircrosoft, or any console really catches onto the "indie" market and help talented developers the freedom they need. Look at the PS3 and Journey/Flower/Fl0w, great examples. Bastion is multi-platform if I'm correct right?

One of Sony's core focuses sofar is just this. They have gone to great lengths discussing this very thing, and coherently explained what they will be doing to make it as easy as possible for the devs.

I know, it's just, what the hell is even the point? A paywall is not something gamers want to deal with.

So if the Kinect 2 is required for X1 to even function, why didn't they make Kinect 1 required to function for Xbox Slim? Why is it something we're stuck with /now/?

Exactly like that, when you buy a game you are actually buying a license to play it but the game itself belongs to the company.

What happens when the Kinect 2.0 malfunctions or just breaks down?
