"Because we're not going to buy this as a way to watch television, we have a cable provider for that, we have Netflix for that, what we're going to buy this for, is the games we can play. All these features are nice and I'm excited for them, but they're not necessary if the system does not have phenomenal games."
Here's the thing, though. The Wii pretty much broke the old paradigm of the console wars by going in a completely different direction from what the others were doing. Yeah, so they lost a lot of support from the core gamer demographic outside fans of Mario and Zelda and Metroid that were going to buy a Wii anyways. But what do they care? The appeal to the casual, kids and families and grandmas market worked. They obliterated the other two consoles in early sales, and was the only console not being sold at a loss.
We as gamers don't give really give a **** about the "value plus" features or whatever you want to call them (I do appreciate some of them myself, but they're not really why I have a 360), but they do sell consoles . Kinect, believe it or not, is partially responsible for the lead in sales the 360 has taken over the PS3/Wii/Wii U in the overtime period of the seventh generation.
