True. It has to be connected to the internet at least once every 24 hours (to update the licenses) or you can't play the games you spent $60 for.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that it was mandatory, but that info might be out-of-date. 

That's correct. Kinect is mandatory. The console will not function without it connected.

I mean that you can unplug it when you're not using the console, so that the worst it could spy on is the things you do when playing the latest DoA.

I just want Microsoft employees to name at least one device that is required to be connected to the internet to have full functionality. I just want to meet the guy who thought people wouldn't be creeped out by a device that can make a perfect body model of a person, is always scanning, can record in the dark and "listens for your voice".

Most of the other stuff I can accept, but these two? Nah, that seems sketchy. It's like they want you to be online all the time to collect information. It is creepy as all hell, and if the PS4 has something similar to this, I want to know exactly what it does and when it's on. People need to realize that other people can do some really messed up stuff with your voice and a perfect body and facial model of you. Gives me the heebie jeebies.
