Bad players don't use mics?!

This is my first post so hello BSN. Longtime lurker but never bothered to link my Origin account before.

Been playing since the demo but something dragged me away after about a month and only the recent expansion drew me back.

I'm an OK player that normally plays silver but sometimes with certain characters it seems a bit too easy so I do a few golds.

I recently got the the Fury Adept (twice) so I used her in silver first and it was pretty easy so I  thought I would give gold a go.

Went into a U/U/G lobby (equipment already on in case it threw me into a 'live' game - all lvl 2 stuff except for Shield Boost V, using Tempest X) and there were two guys talking and one random who didn't have equipment or gear on.

They started yelling at him to put some stuff on "YO BRO AT LEAST PUT SOME GEAR ON" which he did. No equipment though. He was also using Fury Adept and then they were like "FKN IDIOT NOOBS BOTH USING FURY".

Anyway, I don't use a mic (because normally I'm the only one in the house awake so I don't want to wake anyone up) and the Fury didn't have one either so as the map was loading I got a delightful diatribe about how crap players don't use mics because they are embarrassed about how bad they are and how neither of us would use consumables (this is BS because I always use rockets and medigel if I'm about to be stomped on a critical wave).

So the game started (it was London) and as usual I never do brilliantly in gold but I also don't put the team in danger by running off and getting downed, normally I shadow the best player and make revives etc.

It got to Wave 4 and I was the only one who had not been downed so far in the game (I even used a missile to clear the area when the other Fury got knocked down so I could revive, and he used one to save himself another time - this blew the minds of the other guys) but stupidly I followed one of the mic dudes (a Juggy) right out in the open and got hit from all sides by Brutes and went down for the first time.

They helpfully immediately revived me right into a sync kill by a Banshee. Two of my teammates were dead about thirty seconds later (Fury and one of the mic guys, no gels used) and then it was just one Turian guy and about five or six enemies, he took them out apart from a Banshee which he kept dodging around on the ramp for what seemed like eternity while nattering away to his pal on the mic about some party they were going to that night.

For some reason he went up the top of the ramp - I think he was going to get more ammo, although he hadn't quite run out - and got sync killed which caused him much rage because the Banshee only had one bar left.

So basically the tl;dr version is do you think people who don't use a mic suck?

I don't think having a mic would have prevented me getting sync killed as I was revived right away without them even looking at the surrounding area first.

Anyway on a related note if you want a mute that doesn't completely suck and who has a bad connection and will probably follow you around like a puppy or your bro in a buddy cop movie, feel free to add me. *EDIT* I'm D1SCO DAV3  on 360 ;)

I think idiots suck in general. Those (idiots) with mics are generally unable to conceal their idiocy long enough for me to be burdened with a game with them.

don't make assumptions after one random occurrence
i don't use a mic because my game is muted since i listen to my music and sing along...while running platinums, but my PUG teams extract 99.9% of the time.

some people just don't have a mic or are too shy, so deal with it.

No - failure to use a mic has no bearing on a players skill

It's mainly the act of having and using your mic is a sign of willingness of cooperation with your teammates.

Granted, there are those that blare their music into their headset, inflict mouthbreateritis on others, and babble incoherently the entire match, so it's not always a good thing either.

Anyways, if you get in a lobby with some rude rudys, just politely back out and don't let it bother you. If you have access to an airlock, feel free to throw them out of it.

I don't use a mic on PC and I'm pretty sure I'm not totally useless. Most of the time no one says bupkus during matches anyway.

Bad players are bad players, whether they use a mic or not.

I use a mic mostly to call out missiles and when we're hacking to warn the team of approaching bogies since I can see through walls (chrutchscanner) but if nobody is talking, neither am I...although every once in a pug I have an urge to shout "get out of he LZ" on extraction.

I only use my mic when I play with friends, not at all in PUGs. Just how I play. I'm pretty sure I don't suck either ;) I think it's just different playing styles. I've gone through a solid number of PUG unknown unknown platinums with nobody using mics (It's tougher at that difficulty, yes.. but people find a rhythm together). Gold and lower.. mics are absolutely not needed.

Better to be quiet and thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and provide evidence of it.

You were playing with idiots. Take what they said with a grain of salt.

No, I don't consider players without mics to be bad players. I also don't assume that all mic-less players are bad players. My own mic usage varies based upon my mood, after all. I've been running a lot of PUG games lately without it and only putting it on with friends or if other players in the room are using their mics.

Using or not using a mic doesn't indicate anything other than some people feel like talking and others don't. How those people you were playing with came to the conclusion that only bad players don't use mics, I have no idea. They clearly proved that theory wrong if they didn't use any gels or rockets when they were in trouble and just bled out.

The players you were with are idiots and they suck.

I've played with Tchoky from the Spectres, he didn't use a mic, and he's an awesome player.

Mic is irrelevant to your play.

Good players use mics and bad players use mics. Many very good players don't use mics as well or not for anything useful.

Some of the worst players I've seen had their mics on, so there's that. Mics aren't really necessary anyway, and I only use one to be sociable (only with friends).

Well, I'm glad to see there isn't mass discrimination on BSN against people who don't use mics :)

They had much better guns / gear / equipment than me so I thought maybe they knew their stuff.

I start out by leaving my mic unplugged but will plug in if the rest of the team is a chatty bunch.

i feel obligated somehow to comment.
OP i hardly ever use a mic, and the ppl you described in your post sound like some of the pug scrubs i love carrying. in fact, it's ppl like those that make me glad i hardly ever use my mic.

and then there's Tchoky...whose silent domination makes me feel quite scrubbish. again, no mic use from him.

we're out there OP, don't worry. carrying the ME3 standard proudly and efficiently.
in silence.

I don't have a mic, and I don't really need it. I do just fine without
