I don't see why they just couldn't have temp/perma-banned the people who were causing the most trouble and let the peaceful fans live in harmony and love.

This. But Dragon Age still gets their character forum. It's bull****. Nobody in this thread was posting porn or rapefics or any of the other over-the-line stuff.

Will 'ME4' have no character discussion forum either? How can we discuss Bioware games without discussing the characters? It just means that all that discussion will spill over into the storyline forums. Sure, you don't see a lot of it now because the romances have mostly been explored and the endings dominate everything, but in a new game with new characters they will be discussed in the future.

Shepard doesn't struggle with Leng at all. Shepard has to deal with Leng + gunship and Leng + roomful of Phantoms and Guardians, and even then it isn't much of a struggle. I don't have a problem with that.

Shepard should struggle with Leng to make him a nice, satisfying nemisis.

If only this had been achieved by means other than cutscene dumbassery on Shepard's part...

"Shepard, stand around and watch Thane get shanked!"

"Shepard, forget trying to shake him - equip your weakest pistol and abandon the wheel of that moving vehicle!"

"Shepard, put that grenade away and run at the elevator full of sword-wielding phantoms!"

<_<

Sovereign wasn't a romance option so I didn't really care for the subforum.

It would've ended in reaper tentacle porn anyway. Consider it a dodged bullet.

What? Sorry I was just thinking of how utterly one sided the curbstomp battle would be if the Reapers had taken on literally anything from 40k.

"We are two kilometer long death ships!!!"

"B*tch please that's not even a cruiser where I come from." *epic roboslaughter*

Or Star Wars. A Reaper capital ship would be slightly larger than the average Capital Warship.

Plus, look at how powerful SW weaponry is.

A turbolaser on an Imperial-class Star Destroyer is in the gigaton range for damage.

Joker: Asari fleets reporting in, Turian fleet reporting in... .... All fleets reporting in.

Shepard: Actually I've decided to cheat a bit.

Harbinger/Starbrat: WHAT?!

Admiral: This is the Imperial battlefleet Pacificus ready to engage the Xenos filth.

Thrawn: Imperial star destroyer Chimera and it's attendant fleet ready to engage.

Harbinger/Starbrat: Fuuuuu----*massive explosions*

I find it hard to be impressed with Star Wars when "an entire legion of the Empire's finest troops" got their asses kicked by teddy bears.

Space lasers are cool and all but with an organic operator aiming them they're going to get raped by AI-directed Oculi swarms.

I agree that 40k would rip anything from ME apart though.

Pfft fighters are the one area we've got an advantage over the cuttlefish on when it comes to quality.

They may counter with wave after wave of mooks but if it were to come down to a simple war of attrition I'd back Empire and Imperium any day.

Yeah.

With Indoctrination to boot, the Star Wars universe would be toast.

I don't believe you understand the parameters of this crack scenario.

I'm not throwing the Reapers at the Empire.

I'm throwing the Reapers at the Empire, The Imperium of Man, and the combined might of the ME allied races.

The cuttlefish are thoroughly destroyed.

Then everyone blows Endor up so those damn Ewoks don't get to do another Yub Yub song.

Imperium on its own is overkill.

BSN has become such a boring place after the shut down of the character forums and the exile of the IT-thread.

And yet I keep coming here to wallow in boredom and hear the same old rants/contribute to the same old rants...

As one of the people at the core of the hubbub that was the immediate cause of the closedown, I can only observe that character discussion became quite a bit less toxic and - apart from the Thane fan group - all in all outright friendly after the forum was closed and character discussion relegated to groups. I guess it's the same with IT.

So FWIW, I think it was the right decision. Both character and IT discussion was tainted too much by forum politics. Never a good thing.

The Imperium of Man would trample over them. 20,000 ships is a just a single large fleet. The Imperium has thousands of fleets, maybe hundreds of thousands or even millions.

They also have experience dealing with mass mind control, so Indoctrination isn't even that big a threat.

How about Sidious? He'd just create a force vortex that consumes and annihilates all the Reapers.

George Lucas will never live that down with the ewoks. His excuse is that they "didn't technically" win, only distracted the Empire so that the Rebels could destroy the Death Stars Shield Generator.

As for organic operators, it's specified that computer driven targeting programs help the gunners.

Also Star Wars is acceptable because it's not trying to be hard science. It's space fantasy, with a few SF elements. Pretty much anything goes in the SW universe.

Remember that issue I have with Synthesis/the Ending where the writers basically ditch the story to make the ending they wanted to make regardless of the prior game? I hate that because it breaks the universe.

In SW, there are some truly facepalm inducing moments, but sadly, due to the very nature of the universe, literally everything is possible. So while some really stupid things happen, you really can't break your suspension of disbelief. The Force can overturn the laws of physics and thermodynamics.

I don't really pay attention to the EU.

I never said Star Wars wasn't "acceptable," just that (a) I don't take it seriously and (B) you only need 40k to beat the Reapers anyway.

Hah...

Ever see the size of a Super Star Destroyer? 19.6 kilometers. The Empire has several hundred of them. Or your base Imperial Star Destroyer? 1600 meters in length, only a bit shorter than a Reaper. 73 turbolasers (of various array, yield, and power) and 62 ion cannons. That's just one ISD. And there are over 50,000 ISD's in the Galaxy.

And that's just for a single class of SD. The Empire (including SSD's) has at least 20 designs of Star Destroyer (smallest being the Gladiator class at 500 meters to the largest being the Executor class dreadnought at 19.6 kilometers).

And that's just for the Star Destroyer design. The Imperial Navy is made up of millions of ships, with trillions of personnel and manpower.

Everything in the Star Wars universe is incredible and mighty, but can be undone by one young person in a star fighter using the force. So....how do you really compare that?

I know!

Everything worthwhile in the ME universe can be done by one person jumping into a beam on the advice of a small boy made of light. Therefore the two universes are equal!

Watched them, but never been particularly impressed. Never gotten into Star Wars, or BSG, or Firefly or anything of the sort. Watched Star Trek: Voyager when I was younger, but get the feeling I might be pretty let down if I went back and saw it again.

Well that sucks for you.

And you're not swinging the stick. That's an improvement.

Did someone try and teach you that every argument needs to be prefaced with "In my opinion, which could be wrong..."?

Did I ever say I was making an argument?
