When you are playing the best soldier in the galaxy it seems funny you level up and get a lot better, it even worse since everyone levelup around you. hunting for items that you should have been able to buy in the spectre store distract you from your mission and simply isnt fun.
Thoughts?

"Immersion" has been so abused on these forums that it might as well have lost all meaning. Clearly, the developers don't need me to tell them this, but: if you ever are considering not putting in a fun gameplay element because it will break someone's "immersion", just go ahead and put it in please.

P.S.
You know what breaks my "immersion"?
"Resume". Death should mean you must start a new game.

I vastly prefer levelling in-mission to the way it was handled in ME2, with a fixed amount of XP awarded after each mission.

I don't care if XP is awarded in mission or after, but for some reason I liked the Mission Complete screen and the little song that played. :)

Same. It provided a good break in the action to let you know you could relax.

Personally, I think there are limits to how 'immersive' a TPS can get. It's important not to come offf as trying too hard for this kind of game.

The only thing I don't like about ME3's leveling system is how, every so often, I'll get way more experience from opening medkits than I will from accomplishing the objectives.

@joewend......I agree, that's why I miss the ME1 setup, at least you had to accomplish a task to get XP like hack something or crack a safe open with skill.....I wish they would have made it class specific or carry a squad mate that had the ability like ME1 to complete the task for XP

Solution for OP:
1. Don't level up until after the mission.  Or you can NG+ and not have to level up at all.
2. Ignore all side quests. You can live without the extra war assets and credits.
Problem solved!

Though, I fail to see how it breaks immersion that Shepard might have to look for certain objects while fighting enemies. Missions IRL can have secondary objectives. It's not always just "go over there and shoot anything that moves." You might have to obtain some stuff along the way. But like I said...you can play the game without doing any side missions if you want.

Being able to buy stuff that was missed in a war zone from the Spectre Store on the Citadel seems a bit more unrealistic to me, but YMMV...
