Yeah, they(Microsoft) need to switch things around.

Fast.

Like I said before getting rid of the 24 hour DRM alone would improve sales.

Can they "reverse" this kind of tech that simply?

I'd imagine its software.

I'd imagine so too, but they've already got a lot of production gears in motion with the policy in mind.

Aye. That is a tactic Microsoft will take advantage of. Wait for Sony to make the first move on a release date, then release their console first.

tbh going by Sony's conference, it going to be the other way around, Sony have been playing their cards close to their chest, and has a better poker face than MS.

Microsoft has got to lower their price before launch. They've got to if they want any chance to be competitive next gen. Cause Sony is playing for keeps. I'm sure all the PR and marketing for MS is saying the same thing. Or maybe not, they're probably all yes men and women over there at MS. But I fear without at least. A Least. A 50 dollar price cut and non-DRM, xbox will be going the way of the Dino's.

I'd say if it reversed its policy on drm and 24hr log in, it would be ok.

I still think they would need a price cut. The PS4 is 100 bucks cheaper. 20 percent cheaper than an XB1. That's a lot. And it might be to much for MS to overcome. The xbox 360 came out first by what, like 7 or 8 months? I can't remember. But the 360 was always cheaper than the PS3. it wasn't unitl the PS3 drastically reduced it's price from the 600 dollar launch tag to 400 dollars, then they started making up ground. But this gen both consoles will most likely lauch within weeks of each other. November for XB1, I don't think PS4 will be far behind it.

$400 vs $500 is not nearly as bad as $400 vs $600 - especially when Sony had such a **** launch lineup for the PS3 (GIANT ENEMY CRABS) - but I do agree that a price cut is needed. I was predicting before this that it would come in at $399 and that, at the very least, Microsoft would unerstand the importance of not being undercut by Sony when that was such a big factor in allowing them to jump out to a lead last time.

Be interesting to see what the consoles come bundled with, though, both of them have been doing some good business on that front. Perhaps if Microsoft includes some good games and more accessories they can more easily justify the $499 price tag.

Anybody check the console GDEX on gametrailers? Expectedly, PlayStation 4 is in first and Xbox One is in last.

Part B? I don't know that it helps them out significantly, certainly not more than cutting the price would. This might shock a lot of people inside the cocoon of the internet gamer community, but a once-a-day internet connection and used games are less of a big deal than you think they are. If the game lineup isn't the deciding factor then pricing will be, not the DRM policies.

While I see your point...Ubisoft had a consistent, always-online system that gamers were used to (not necessarily happy about, but used to)...and they pulled it. Patched it out of their games. Pretty interesting.

Right, and I certainly wouldn't be upset to the see the DRM policies go. But Ubisoft also makes games as their primary business. I think Microsoft is following Nintendo's lead here and banking on being able to sell the X1 to more than just gamers like Nintendo did with the Wii. You can see that with the way Kinect really did boost sales (which will also no doubt come as a shock - I certainly was the first time I read it).

Basically, people can mock the X1 as a set-top box all they want, but if Microsoft can essentially turn it into a proprietary HTPC that can play AAA games at competitive standards, that's something that can appeal to a TON of people, and definitely a much wider audience than the 80 million or so gamers that have 360's. Sony seems to be thinking along the same lines as well judging from the first part of their conference, they're just tiptoing forward with it (probably because they don't have as much experience with producing PCs and operating systems and all that jazz).

I don't think so. I thought 360 was leading by like 2 million?

I don't even know whether I'll get one of the consoles but Sony just beat down MS with their price and DRM stance. That was brutal. The PS4 looks nice too compared to the VCR that is the Xbone.

Last estimates I saw had them both at around 77 million worldwide, with Microsoft maybe ahead by a nose. Could be different in the US, though, Microsoft performs much stronger here than in Europe (and is basically non-existent in Japan).

Go look at wikipedia. They both have sourced sales reports of 77 million plus. They are dead even, with Microsoft maybe a couple hundred thousand in the lead.

Do you have a source saying the PS3 sold 200 million?

Because wikipedia has sources for 77 million for the PS3 and 77 million for the 360.

I don't quite see the Xbox One really catching on as is. If their goal is to take over your living room I don't see much added value. Given the fact I can already stream Netflix and Hulu with older devices why do I need the new Xbox? Cable is basically dead to me.

On the other hand Sony seems to be killing it. Microsoft has given them a lot of ammunition though.

One half of me doesn't care at all about Xbox sales. Different choices for everyone. The other half of me wants Xbox One to fail miserably, because of their policy decisions. I want that mindset obliterated from the industry. We have enough negatives the way it is.

After today, I don't think MS will remove their DRM policies but they might soften it a bit to where you can do basic things like lend and rent games. Who knows.

If MS want to stay in the competition they'll most likely have to.

Do you ... not understand that wikipedia isn't a source? It simply reports information that must itself come from other sources? And that vgchartz isn't renowed for being complete accurate either?
