They might be going for the one hit kill with the Golden Gun at this point.

Wait for it: MS pulls every restriction and makes kinect optional just in time for its release so people will flock over to X1 over PS4.

I think Steam has something similar in that respect. Could be wrong though.

^ Why would they flock? Nowadays' Microsoft is one of the most draconian firms ever and its console is a brick with *nothing* over PS, also in this scenario.

I don't really do steam, and if that's true I'll probably never do PC

If so that's just a major reason why disc-based machines should never go away.

I'm sticking with the 360 as long as humanely possible.... Then, maybe PC.

Yes, if your steam account is banned you lose access to everything that is directly tied to it.

Several years ago (back in 2006 I think), I bought a used copy of Half Life 2. Said copy came with the steam account info of the previous owner (steam is mandatory to play HL2), which I used to play (resetting the password myself). About two weeks later when I tried to login to the account, I got a msg saying the account had been disabled because it's against the TOS to sell/trade accounts, which meant my Half Life 2 copy (which also included Counter Strike: Source and Half Life 1) was now unplayable. If I had tied any games to that account, I would've lost access to them too.

Granted, this was several years ago as I mentioned, I do not know what their current poicies are. I think you can buy a used copy that is tied to an account but you must request to have that account reset by Valve themselves before you can use it (not sure though, that was the last time I checked), but either way, point is that yes, you can lose access to everyting tied to a steam account if banned.

Haven't read the new link yet. I bet it is hilarious. You can only laugh at this point. This reaction is a win for gaming. We naturally and organically have drawn the line. Remember, too, just how much money Microsoft has invested in this thing. Billions and billions.

Ouch.

Yep. Game ownership is purely exposed. Pathetic. You get banned, you lose your games. Lolol! Unfreaking believable. It's like Origin, but its your entire console. I can't believe it!

And if anyone is wondering, many troops do enjoy video games in down time. I can only imagine they find it to be a form of stress release, and escape. I atleast hope Microsoft comes up with a workaround for them.

Here's our awesome new console, DON'T BUY IT!!!

omfg this is just too funny for microsoft to be saying it seriously. Surely they're gonna turn around and say it was a really late April fools joke.

No company would make such drastic changes so soon before release. Aside from the technical and logistical issues, there'd be very little time to inform the public about the changes. You learn that stuff in Marketing 101.

Oh, and yes, I know you were being sarcastic. I'm just being a killjoy.

Oh come on. Microsoft can change things around if Sony stares them down long enough

I suspect that due to contracts with publishers the DRM policies cannot be changed until several months after release (and indeed, they may be banking on publishers either not using them or implementing the same DRM themselves on the PS4, such that people decide it's not such a big deal).

Stuff on Microsoft's own end, though, like pricing and an offline mode? That could be fairly easily done even a few weeks before release and disseminated to the public. Lowering the price to $449 and allowing an offline mode for up to 1-2 weeks would do Microsoft a world of good and defang a lot of the internet complaints, I think.

Yeah well if Microsoft doesn't change their policies at some point in the future, Sony's gonna be slam dunking this console generation.
