An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
So, if you have absolutely no internet access anyway, would you be able to set up the system anyway? I forgot how this goes, or if this is a basis for all of this-gen and next-gen consoles, and since I have very good internet, I really didn't care much.
I'm assuming he means every game will require a one-time online activation, same as Steam.
So...wouldn't that mean that people with no internet access whatsoever are still affected by this?

I'm actually waiting on youtube to see an update from him. It's probably expected.
Except youtube has been undergoing some updates or something for the past few days. It's hard to get vids to play, and Angry Joe tweeted earlier that is was taking hours just to upload one video. I've had to curb my youtube use due to frustration.
So it wasn't just me experiencing videos buffering for longer than usually periods of time? I thought my internet broke on me, tbh.

Great. Now I like Microsoft a little more, but can't get their just-now modus operandi of "you win some, you lose some".

Ah, but the exclusives and the whole HDMI-Out stuff is a genuine bonus now for some people.
What "exclusives" you know that stuff will get ported to PC eventually.
Unlike PS4 exclusives.
Anyway there's still no way I'm getting it if I wanted one of the new consoles. Becuase the PS4 has better specs and is cheaper.
There still isn't a competition.
Plus this doesn't stop them from making changes mid console...

- You won't be able to access your full library on the go. You can only access games bought digitally; if you want the rest, you need the physical discs.
- The Xbox One "family" idea is out of the picture as well.

You know that also applies to Sony or Nintendo, don't you?

In case you didn't read the article I posted, the removal of DRM comes at a price:

Although this is not in the article, you can also add what I chatted with you about before.
If it's necessary.

Surprise Xbox One DRM Reversal Requires Day One Patch, Cuts Features
Patch is because this is, relativistically, last minute.
"Cut features" aren't really what most people who were against the previous DRM policies would consider "features" so, yeah.

Of course it does but I trust them a lot more then microsoft.
Especially considering how my 360 changed so much over the course of when I had bought it, it practically turned me off of console gaming forever.
*sighs and stares longingly at her PS2*

The problem is I'm re-reading this and I'm not entirely sure they're talking about a one-time online activation per game. I think they're talking about a single initial console update, what would make sense since they need to patch the DRM out somehow.

I'll have my physical copies though, like I do since my Nintendo 64. Just a habit and I prefer disc and keeping it.

Family idea's gone.

Considering the blow to consumer rights these benefits would've come with I'd say that's a price we're willing to pay right now. Microsoft can spout that they're trying to usher in this new 'digital' age all they want, but fact of the matter is not even everyone in the United States has a stable internet connection much less abroad. They were marketing to a future that's unfortunately still far off from now, not to say they can't try to implement these ideas in the future though preferably with less draconian policies to make them work.OdanUrr wrote...

I'm sorry for the people who liked those things, but if MS wanted to, they could offer two types of plans: traditional, disc-based gaming with no family share, or a digital model with family share. Choice is really the key here, if they want to take advantage of both types of consumer.

That is what I assumed as well. Don't most games on the 360 need updates as well though?
