I still have to question how this effects the military. It sounds like you still need to be connected in order to activate the copy, only that it doesn't have to be done once every 24 hours. That means it's still a problem for servicemen, who regularly get games in care packages. This is a good start, but it's not enough.

I'm more interested now than I was before, but with only 1 interesting exclusive, why would I buy it?

Sony learned their lesson, while I don't think MS has, because they haven't really suffered. They will keep pushing the line, seeing what they can get away with.

Nice to see MS admit they're wrong, but I'm still getting a PS4 for these reasons:
(...)
-PS4 still has more powerful tech
-X1's built-in Kinect still concerns me
-PS4 will offer streaming PS3 titles, of which there are some exclusives I'm interested in (I'm a 360 owner)

Those three, especially the second two, have my interest peaked a bit.  Again, not a console gamer in general - but Heavy Rain, Last of Us, Uncharted, plus the indie game love that PS4 is offering is tempting.

Those games are on PS4? When did that happen?

In the near term they will start offering PS3 games, through an emulator or front-end program, whatever, digitally.  I've no idea what the selection will be, but I would guess big, popular, exclusive titles would be there eventually.

On February 20, 2013, Gaikai announced that PlayStationPlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 titles would be made available for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 console in addition to features like Remote Play for PlayStation Vita.[27][28]

This is good, wasn't planning on buying a console unless it was Microsoft, I don't like Sony, not one bit. If I buy any consoles in the future, at least I'm glad M$ was smart enough to bend knee. Its about time gamers finally did something about this nonsense. Who knows what else pressured them into removing DRM, I'm pretty sure retailers probably had something to do with that.

The part that I never understood is that they kept saying that they had this grand vision for the future, but then never really explained what that vision was.

Going by my understanding of how things are now, I don't believe this would affect the military: the console would have to be updated/connected online only once, after which it would basically become a 360 v2 in that everything that isn't dependent on online multiplayer should be playable offline.

Given how there now are no region locks whatsoever, they should be able to get any X1 game in whatever country they're in as well now.

I would caution everyone against declaring this a win for gaming or gamers. It's pretty clear that this is not what Microsoft wanted to do, they are simply trying to prevent sabotaging their launch. Just remember - if these policies could be disabled via software, they can be put back the same way once the XBone install base is large enough. I'd be wary of them trying this again down the line.

I'm trying to decide who to preorder the X1 from.

Gamestop has bundles with a single launch game(AC4, BF4, CoD G, Ryse, Watch Dogs, etc etc), but they'll likely charge more than I'd rather go for.

Amazon's always been good to me.

Microsoft directly...hah. That feels off,

but damn it I'm indecisive. I guess I'll just stick to one for now and I can change it down the line.

Oh yeah, that. PS3 needs it too. Who knows when certain games will start showing up though.

I still wouldn't order the Xbone until they make the Kinect spycam optional. I've no interest in the glorified remote control that is the Xbone, and undoubtedly the Kinect is included in the price.

Addendum: but even if they were to remove the Kinect spycam, I don't think I would purchse the BetamaXbox. Microsoft's does not deserve to be rewarded for its attempt to remove consumer agency within the video game market w/ the Xbone.

meh..... I'd go with gamestop cause you'll be able to pick it up directly. But if you don't want to that and you want it shiped then Amazon. I'm sure Amazon will have launch bundles for XB1 too.

Amazon it is, X1 preordered.

I'll likely cancel down the line and fool around with other providers until I'm comfortable with who's getting the payment for it. Might stick with them though. Other than the X1 itself, loads of games to get this year and next, as well as a mic to chit chat with buddies and eventually a WIRED controller.

I hate wireless controllers. Oi.

Although I prefer Microsoft over Sony, personally I don't recommend buying it at launch. The 360 had RROD, Windows is almost always garbage at release, I have no doubt that there is a high possibility of the Xbone having some sort of issue.

Well, look at it this way-

My Amazon preorder right now is like $507.

If I went with a Gamestop bundle(say...AC4), it'd end up at like $612 if I wanted it ASAP.

So I figure I'll just get the console and games separately.

Order the console online, buy the games in-store. Microphone and other stuff, I'll figure it out.

Buying a console at launch=beta testing for the masses

I've only done that once- for a legendary console named the Playstation 2.

Its been a looong time. I think I'm okay with getting a launch console this time around, letting people know the pros and cons, things to look out for, things to appreciate, etc etc.

You could always cover the camera up with something.  That is if If it doesn't block the motion.

Unnecessary. They've confirmed that the Kinect 2.0 has settings that can actually set it COMPLETELY off. I think it still needs to be plugged in, but it will effectively do nothing, not even wait to hear "Xbox On".

So while Kinect 2.0 is "optional" in that once you have it you don't have to use it, its still mandatory in that it comes with the console and must be plugged in.

Unless I'm screwing that up somehow.

But anyway, I have no worries. My Kinect was on all the time earlier today when I was playing Peggle and Modern Warfare 2. Nothing that needed worrying about.

I'm excited to get the sweet looking game Outlast for free when my PS4 arrives. That game looks even better then Daylight.

Anyway, Cliffy B. confirms he is indeed the industry's biggest douche.
