Simply a Kinect 2.0, which has settings to turn off the features that people have problems with.

I don't trust software settings when it comes to privacy.  Every virus ever made changes software settings.  I grudgingly accept essential software settings, but a camera is not essential.

It IS odd that its required even if you shut the whole thing off while still connected, with MS's reasoning that it'll turn on for Kinect appropriate titles and such.

But I get the idea of giving it to everyone.

That should be optional if ppl want it.  And I also get the idea of having it bundled. I just believe their method is seriously broken.

From a business perspective, it seems silly to alienate a good chunk of your consumer base. It would be much better to leave it a choice like the original Kinect, or at least offer a different model of the X1 that is Kinect-less. Go to the xboxone official forums and read the rage still simmering over the required Kinect, and that is from the Microsoft faithful, not Sony fans. I believe you are mistaken if you think just a few people object to the Kinect.

I understand wanting to guarantee the Kinect being available to game makers--even though I don't want one and don't want to pay extra for it.  It's the requirement to have it connected that is a deal breaker for me.

I never bought a Kinect. Someone gave us theirs for our kids (because they hated it lol), and my kids barely even used it. I tried a couple of dance games for exercise, but meh. I have a better time just going to the gym. Required Kinect was always a deal breaker for me, so whatever.

My biggest concern is how difficult it will be to get used to Sony's system (online, store, controller....just everything), after using nothing but xbox for the past decade. I just hope I don't hate it, since I'm jumping in with both feet here.

Maybe the Steambox can bring that to the table, they do have the workshop after all. If they do, that will get a lot of people to back them.

I heard Sony is making an Xbox type controller for "converters" lol

The store won't be that different, the online will be(community wise), you'll get used to paying for PS+(though its $10 more expensive than XBL if you buy XBL on Amazon or in Gamestop), and the controller is VERY different, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

Don't worry too much. As someone who had a PS1, PS2, and 360, I can assure you- You'll do just fine. :)

PS4 has a user replaceable hard drive, and One has USB external storage. Shouldn't be a problem there.

That always made me laugh. The Xbox one, the "one" entertainment box... which requires a cable box.. and a kinect, and additional hard drives. So it's actually the one, two, three.... however many little boxes needed for the thing to work.

It's daft that it was marketed as an all in one entertainment system, when it isn't. If you want to watch TV, you can, you just need a cable box. Play additional games after filling up your HD, yeah you have to connect another one into the back of the system, also another reason why the requirement to download all games onto the HDD was so stupid. Kinect, even if you never use the damn thing, it still sits there. So we're up to 3+ potential boxes simply to access it's features. Half of which don't work outside of the US.

I understand the idea of giving a kinect to everyone, it's just a stupid one. But, then again MSFT's drive was not towards the "core" gamer which makes it even more bemusing that they were forced to back track. How they forgot that the early uptakers will determine the product's success is beyond me. It is still fundemental a games console, yet is marketed itself initially as something else and they announced it at their confrence and marketed at E3, both of which are primarily watched by gamers.:pinched:

What is the "another one" you're referring to?

I was paying $100 a year for XBL because of the family plan for 4 of us lol, so the PS4 bundle I ordered that included a year of PSN+ was a savings for me overall. I really like how Playstation don't try to charge you for using things like Netflix though, just like the Wii. It always pissed me off that the 360 makes you pay to stream Netflix or Amazon vid, while my Blu-ray player or Wii will do it at no additional charge.

I think my biggest challenge will be getting used to a new controller layout. Maybe my hands will cramp less. Hopefully. :P

I don't think Sony has a family plan for PS+. Do they? Have they in the past?

I've never heard of one. Would be awesome for consumers if they did and/or will.

As far as hand cramping, I've heard of that happening much more with PS controllers than Xbox controllers.

Funny thing is, I played PS1 and 2 when I was younger- my hands were smaller, so no issues.

Then I got 360 as I got older- hands were bigger, controller matched.

I held the PS3 controller(my stepbrother has one) and HUGE DIFFERENCE. Felt tiny. I've got long fingers.

But the PS4 controller is more girthy, so any hand cramping their controllers may cause should be lessened in the future. Again, no worries.

I still feel though that MS has the better controller design.

The HDD, It uses a USB I believe to connect an additional HDD to the back of the X1

Its a bad thing to add more space?

PS4 is going to require the same thing(replacing) with their 500GB.

Missing the point. For something which has stated it's an all in one entertainment box, it's going to need 4 times as many boxes to actually work properly.

Working properly=X1 and Kinect 2.0. Thats it.

All that other stuff is extra.

PS4 working properly=PS4. Thats it.

The only numbers that matter= 1 and 2.

Besides, if you buy the X1, it comes with Kinect 2.0 so really its

1:1.

Though I get the mindset that Kinect is a peripheral that shouldn't be there.

If you want to play games, it didn't market itself as a games machine, it marketed itself as an all in one entertainment system, hence the "one" If you want to watch TV cable box,if it additional memory space it requires an extra HDD to be plugged in. For something which positioned itself to be all inclusive there was quite a few caveats and asterisks attached to it's use.

There's caveats and asterisks applied to every gaming platform.

*shrugs*

I don't see the point in lauding one over the other when in one way or another a gamer's getting something over something else with each platform.

I think there's a difference when the caveats and asterisks contained more restrictions than what the system gave in benefits.

I'm certainly not lauding, one over another, I'll criticise any platform which pulls the same level of stupidity that MSFT did. At the moment, PS4 provides more benefits than the X1 and the PC more benefits than the PS4. If Sony and MSFT's positions had been reversed I would have been hammering Sony instead.

Ooh, nice. Good on them.

One PS+ account=PS+ for all accounts on that console, if I'm understanding it correctly

Hey Microsoft- do that.

I think it's necessary in a time when companies are becoming increasingly okay with eroding consumer rights, pushing half truths and misinformation. If it's required, then it's a result of the poor shape the console industry is in. It's good that MSFT did the correct thing, but I'm not oblivious that it was the pre orders of the PS4 which finally twisted their arm, I've little doubt that had Sony taken the same approach as MSFT, they would have stuck it out.

Who knows what would've happened if they both went the same direction?

The immediate negatives were apparent, the long term benefits not so much.

I was okay with waiting to see what came. Though I'm biased as the negatives didn't really affect me.

Gamerscore/Trophies=Not that important

Its just for bragging rights. I get missing it, but don't let it affect your purchasing decision too much.

For example, if I REALLY wanted more gamerscore, I could get Elder Scrolls Online for X1.

But I'm still putting the Mac version at the top of my list.

Thats if you consider motion control+voice recognition "bad".

I don't. Thats a matter of perception.

Kinect 2.0/Move 2.0 being good or bad is an opinion/preference of thought.

Hence why I think Microsoft did good by bundling Kinect with every X1. I enjoy it now, so I imagine I'll enjoy it again next gen.

Others who may or may not have tried Kinect/Move may disagree. Thats perfectly understandable and acceptable(though others on both sides would try to argue otherwise).

I have an issue with this bolded part, not everyone wants a Kinect or anything to do with at all. So why should Microsoft bundle it with exery single Xbox One(80) and force on people who doesn't like it

Because thats their call. If you don't want it, don't get it. Simple as that.

Its like if you saw a...chocolate crepe with sugar on top.

Perhaps you don't want sugar on top. But thats what it comes with.

If you don't want it, don't get it.

There's a perfectly acceptable AND cheaper chocolate crepe at the place down the street.

Sugar costs extra but its on the side, AND the chocolate comes from Germany.

Good thing MS doesn't run grocery stores--they wouldn't stay in business.  There is no need to package a candy bar with the pack of toilet paper when all you want is the TP.  Sure, the TP is useful once the candy bar makes it through your digestive system, but some don't want candy bars.  People who do want a candy bar can buy it seperately.  The candy bar isn't necessary to make use of the TP.
Or for people who use a bidet, how about when you go to a restaurant and you want a steak, but you hate mushrooms?  If MS is the cook, they're giving you mushrooms no matter what you want and making you pay for them.  Mushrooms are not a steak necessity for all steak lovers.
MS is being stubborn.  You can't force people into limitations---people like having options within the brand that they love.  They'll learn the hard way if they refuse to listen to their fanbase.  IF MS gets over their hurt feelings they'll make kinect optional.  The people who want it will pay for it and enjoy it ("Xbox, get me a large pepperoni with extra cheese and garlic dip") and the people who don't want that and won't use it aren't forced to pay for it.
