So, um, can someone explain to me how the Kinect is different from the webcam and microphone that comes standard with every laptop? I mean, people can just as easily spy on us with that, right?

It doesn't seem any different from a webcam to me, which is one of the main reasons why I'm not going to get the X1. I've never liked the idea of webcams, and although I'm not sure what the standard is now, the laptop that I bought ~5 years ago does not have one. I don't own any internet-connected device that has a camera.

That complaint is silly as hell. People are flattering themselves if they think MS actually wants to know what you do in the comfort of your own living/bedroom.

With that said, there's no way I'm forking up 500 dollars for the KinectBox One. MS should have made it optional.

I'm just plain not interested in the Kinect. Just not worth the cost, I'm really quite capable of shouting at the tv and flailing my arms around like a madman without having to fork over an additional $100 to microsoft.

Yeah, the idea that I HAVE to do Kinect gaming kind of bothers me. If I want to exercise, then I'm going to go outside and exercise. If I want to game, then I just want to kick back and chill. There's really no need to combine the two. People who don't exercise ain't gonna do it anyways. I know that's not the main reason their force bundling Kinect with everything, but I do feel that it's an underlying reason.

But yeah, I'm kind of over the spy paranoia. You'll have cameras on you all the time once you walk outside and a lot of computers have web cams too. I just figure that if I continue to live a boring life, the super spies of the world will leave me alone.

You can disable/break the camera in your lappy and it'll still function (the laptop).

Not so with xbone.

Regardless paying 100 bucks for MS's motion control is bleh. People don't like paying for things they don't want.

Sony and Microsoft aren't so different after all. Twas purely a business decision, they both had the same idea.

Wise.

Least PS4 people can still use said eye if they want to and everyone else isn't forced to fork over extra cash.

But yeah not so different. Least Sony backs down before the explosion.

Wait a second, when was it revealed Sony was secretly dishing out consumer information to the NSA through PRISM?

Super-simple.

1 - Not every laptop comes with them, for one.  Of the three laptops I've owned in the last five years, only one had webcam and microphone.
2 - As far as I know no laptop is set up that it turns on with voice commands, or tracks hand or body motions, and none of them are attached to software specifically designed to send feedback to the creator of said laptops.
3 - You could physically remove / disconnect the camera and microphone from your laptop and your laptop would STILL work.
4 - You can go into your laptop settings / device manager and not only turn off the camera and microphone (which, arguably, you "can" do with the Xbox One) BUT you can uninstall the drivers so those pieces of hardware will not work, period.

Not.  The.  Same.  Thing.  At.  All. ;)

Anyone know if a white noise machine would kill the Kinect's microphone?

See, that's a good idea.  I'm half tempted to get one because of all the fun that can be had.
Can you make videos with kinect and send them out directly to other users?  Geez, aint MS worried about the things people will do?

I'm sure they're ready to ban people who are reported for doing vulgar acts on the kinect.

Microsoft Says Xbox One/PS4 Spec Comparisons Are ‘Meaningless’

I particularly liked this bit:

“For me, I’d rather not even have the conversation, because it’s not going to matter. The box is going to be awesome. The games are going to be awesome. I heard this exact same argument last generation and it’s a pointless argument, because people are debating things which they don’t know about. They’re not [head silicon engineer] Nick Baker or [corporate vice president of IEB hardware] Todd Holmdahl, and I’m not [lead PS4 architect] Mark Cerny, so why are we having this discussion?

:pinched:

I'm more of a "game" first, "specs" later type of gamer. Even with multiplatform, I preferred playing certain games with my Xbox, even if it "looked" better on PS3 or PC.

Aye, specs DON'T matter, as far as games go. If you're a "one console a generation" kind of person, how one constantly stacks up to another is a bit meaningless(unless you plan to change things up, which is why this stuff gets brought up between gens).

PS3 had sup specs to 360, right? So what was up with Bayonetta?

IGN had to make two separate reviews for Bayonetta based on platform.

360- 9.5
PS3- 8.2

This being mainly because of load times needing load times needing load times needing loa...you get the point

Anyway, one might have superior specs- but in the end, it comes down to the games, how they're ported, how well they're made, etc etc

PS4 could end up smoking X1 game-wise this gen, or it could be the other way around. Or both could stand up to each other. Or Wii U could blow them both away.

*shrugs* Who knows.

I don't put too much stock in specs, otherwise I would've gone PS1-2-3-4 instead of PS1-2-360-X1.

Speaking of specs, how did the original Xbox stack up to the PS2? I never really looked into that.
