If the Xbox One requires internet for single player games (from the bad news I have heard) then it's game over for me. Thats a deal breaker for me.

They do. :D Require one connection every 24 hours.

welp if that is indeed true then not buying. I want to be able to play my single player games forever without worry of internet requirements.

Seems I'm definitely in the minority.  I was slightly disappointed in both reveals.  PS4 for all it's social bull**** that I  couldn't care less about and X1 for it's lack of gaming content.  The difference being I would actually use the X1 for a lot of what they were touting yesterday.  Aside from that, I didn't really have many issues with either console.

Requiring an internet connection makes sense, even if that's limiting for many people.  So long as it doesn't require a continuous internet connection I'm fine with it.

Requiring a fee for used games makes sense.  Lets be honest: every time we lend out a game for anything more than a sample play, we've been stealing a copy of the game from them.

I'll hand it to Sony on one account though:  their presentation was much more geared towards hardcore gamers.  I'm not convinced Microsoft has abandoned us yet though.  It's clear their presentation was mostly about entertainment features outside gaming, and maybe that's all it should have been.  Throwing in game footage here and there just confuses the issue.  I'll wait for more info at E3 before calling it.

I highly doubt I'll buy either new console anyway.

So true, I should remember to tell my sister to pay Panasonic £575 for my old TV that she borrowed when her's broke last year, and £200 to Microsoft when she borrowed my 360 that one time when her friends came round, and remember to tally up the total amount of money my dad owes book publishers, and tell my mum that she owes Dyson £400 when she borrowed my aunts vacuum when we moved house.

And remember to tell everyone ever that they owe a sh*t ton money to companies for using stuff that isn't completely new.

Borrowing is theft!

My uncle borrowed my dad's 4X4 last year to meet friendsa few hundred miles away. Guess I'll have to inform him he owes Volvo a pile of cash.

The borrowing tangent can die now, since it's not particularly funny and the point has been made.

In any case, it seems like the console is adopting a delivery method very similar to Steam, in that physical media is just used as an installer. Instead of validating with a CD key, it must validate with something else I imagine (not sure on the details).

The decision will severely affect (i.e. eliminate) used physical copies. I actually don't know much about the console, and haven't really seen much aside from synopsis that have gone around the past day, but it sounds like there's a rumor that games can be sold digitally, and in that case the "fee" won't apply since it'll be able to remove the license from the seller's account, and transfer it to the purchaser's account.

Interesting shift for used games, if this is in fact the case.

The second hand market is actually hurting the industry, though I wouldn't include "lending games to friends" to be in that category.  Software does not depreciate when used like physical items do, so those comparisons are not valid.

The specs itself, aren't garbage - PS4 is a bit more powerful and the PC will always be high end, but as it should be, the new Xbox won't be "garbage" unless they forget what their main selling point is; games. They need to deliver on their exclusives, COD isn't going to cut it, nor is Halo in my opinion. Can the console really withstand itself, with two or three exclusive titles? My second disappointment, which hopefully isn't true, is the letting a friend borrow my game, but has to sign on my account... or they have to pay a fee? Doesn't vibe well with me at all.

Regarding the fees for used games, will Microsoft pocket the money for themselves or give it to the game maker's companies?

I've seen nothing to suggest the second hand market is hurting the industry to any significant degree.

Software does not depreciate when used like physical items do, so those comparisons are not valid.

Used games are still sold at a lower price depending on age, and in the case of online retailers, physical condition. Whether the actual disc still works matters little, people wont be as likely to buy something that looks worse, and games and their boxes still show physical wear.

My expectation is that it'd be like any other game sale.  It'd probably be inviting all sorts of bad legal scrutiny to bank all the money themselves.  It'd also not really foster positive relationships with third party developers.

Here's where you kind of messed up. "Entertainment" is Xbox's main selling point, not specifically games. It's been that before this reveal. I've accepted that, and have moved on.
