That hasn't existed for decades, if it ever did. Exclusives are the lifeblood of the manufacturers - there's no way to the PlayStation would have been as successful as it was if it didn't court Square away from the NES and put FFVII only on the PS1 - and they pay handsomely to ensure that.

You're right, that was definitely part of it. Sony put less restrictions on the content they'd allow on games for their system, and CD-ROM's were themselves much less restrictive than cartridges.

Funny thing is, Sony only made the PS1 in the first place because Nintendo backed out of a contract for Sony to manufacture a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES ... which they instead gave to Phillips, and then that deal imploded and led to the creation of the CD-i.

Nintendo probably wants that decision back.

This scanning stuff is creepy as hell. I can already see herds of teenagers stuffing their sofa with loads of tacos waiting to be rewarded as loyal customers.
This console sounds more and more like it's targeting 15 year-old teens who want to impress their mates with "ZOMG kewwwl!", and for what? A lousy achievement.

I think its important for us to share with adults potentially buying this for their children the fact Skykinect scans everything, is always on and connected to the internet.

Sure, CoD4, MW2, and Black Ops all had good stories, even if they're highly derivative of Tom Clancy and nothing that's going to win awards. 

Haven't played Black Ops 2 but yeah, from what I've heard it's in the same boat.

In any case, it seems like the console is adopting a delivery method very similar to Steam, in that physical media is just used as an installer. Instead of validating with a CD key, it must validate with something else I imagine (not sure on the details).

I know you can't answer this question Allan, and my apologies if I appear to be jumping to massive conclusions based on one off-the-cuff remark. Hopefully you understand I'm just speculating here.

You should go work in their PR department. You could try to twist the fact that their console sucks and they need exclusive games to attempt to win customers over.

No thanks friendo. I would prefer picking a console based on the merits of the console itself and then choose the games I want to play.

It's the fact that games can be exclusive that matters. A game being exclusive means I am forced to buy a console I may not want (based off it's own ups and downs) if I want to play a certain game. For the console manufacturer all it is, is a way to subvert having to rely on the console itself to sell it. A game being exclusive does nothing good for gamers. What do you gain from the owner of 'the other console' not being able to play a game?

You misunderstood what he said. It's not about whether exclusives matter or not, but that they shouldn't exist in the first place. Exclusives only matter when a console company relies on exclusive deals rather than on actually making a console worth buying. Then again, I wouldn't really feel comfortable seeing Nintendo franchises like Metroid or Mario being handled by a different company than Nintendo. W/ the exception of Other M, Nintendo hasn't done wrong w/ their old school franchises.

He committed to PS4 early and now seems to have severe buyers remorse for a console he hasn't even bought yet and is desperately trying to get people to back him up. Just for the record,  both FF7 and FF8 were released on the PC in addition to the Playstation.

I'm expecting at least one EA title for a demo and probably a game no one expected.  I'm expeting that COD Ghost demo.
